Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Anyone else made up their mind on what Sex you gonna play for race/class?

I know Charr and Asuran will be Male, every thing else Female...

I think I've played GW1 for far too long, only human feels like the proper race to play. So male and female humans for me, at least at first, while I get used to the idea of having a choice!

Norn Female Necro
Norn Female Engineer

Norn Female Mesmer
Norn Female Warrior
Charr Male Ranger
Asura Male Guardian
Human Female Thief
Sylvari ? Elementalist

All in order of what I'll be playing, Necro/Engineer will be my mains.

So I'm trying to register the beta key from Curse and keep getting a 502. I don't know if it's swallowed my key or not either. Great.

In game that just applies to the friends list, not your character name.

So it's like I'm uhh Jira.1234 and if you have another person who chose the account name Jira they might be Jira.2587 and that allows you to have the name you want and friend both of those accounts and you can tell them apart in game on the friends list.

And you could nickname them in the list if I am not completely wrong.

Thoughts? I need to know if it is all readable, specifically the profession descriptions.

You mean how the Guardian and Ranger text is overlapping the actual image in the middle?

EDIT: I uploaded a fixed version, is that what you meant?
Well It seems, I can't differentiate between left and right :P
Right now, it's better, and it's the thing I said you, but in the other zone xD
It's for the OT?

It will be yeah. Really that's about the biggest image it will have. Every other image is going to be very small header images, the GW2 logo, some smaller screenshots and that's about it. The rest will likely be text. Trying to think of how to handle the races.

Truer words have never been spoken!

I am refusing to watch the new videos....any changes in UI? Hoping some sort of update/patch notes are released.

Clock was added, /dance, new Vistas feature, deposit all collectibles, Trait reworks, skill changes.

A vista is an interactive object located in the world which triggers an associated cinematic. It appears as a column of light with a scroll floating near the ground. Interacting with the object will cause the camera to pan across nearby scenery. Vistas are intended to showcase locations and their environment art.

Each zone has a set number of vistas; interacting with them will contribute to both area-wide and total completion counts as shown on the player map.

Thanks. What I really want to see is info on class changes. Sorry, I'm a complete geek for patch notes involving class changes. I'm especially interested in what they did for the Engi.

Vistas sound cool. Thank God for deposit all collectibles.

Thoughts for Races? This is a first attempt for the Races, I knew I wanted to use that concept art, then I thought hey I could use that nondescript grey background for something, then I saw the painterly border and thought damn I could actually kinda make it look paperish and that's what came out. If this is the design I'm gonna go with I'll be alternating races oriented from left to right like you see here on the Races page.

For me, the font is too small. Very straining on the eyes. Other than that, looks good.

"Or the pve-only people run dungeons as they would raids....or those pve-only people who just keep endlessly rolling alts endlessly roll alts. Same as other games."

The people who constantly run raids do so for the gear progression, which is intentionally hinderered in many MMOs due to weekly lockouts and limited drops per kill. I'm not sure if such a thing exists in GW2? Which means the content is going to get blown through within weeks, leaving PvE only players with not a whole lot to do.

It's a common flaw with most MMO launches.

I understand why the developers are saying they have a lot of PVE but I don't understand how any consumer going into this (especially an MMO because most people buying an MMO do a little research first) would expect this game to be a good replacement for their PVE-centric games.

I plan to use PVE to start to understand the mechanics but I plan on playing it in the long run for WvW and hopefully sPVP (if these pro's will take a noob).

I believe the PVE for leveling is there, but I don't think they hide the fact that PVP is the 'endgame' rather than huge raids.

EDIT:

Looks good Jira, although the text on the races should be a bit bigger.

Agree, I think it's just too small for the font. It makes it hard to read in a few places. I'd keep the font though, just needs to be a little larger.

My thoughts exactly.

Looking great, Jira. Tons of respect for taking so much personal time and feedback to give this game and community the OT it deserves.

Yeah, getting feedback on them now rather than second guessing myself when it comes time to post.

Ok, I have a suggestion but feel free to ignore it, it's kind of a personal preference. I prefer that the bulk of the text is not incorporated in the images and is actual text in the post. This makes copying possible, it also allows for searches and finding key words. Obviously, that would be a major change so if it wouldn't work with the way you planned to do the OT, just ignore me. I just wanted to put it out there.

No problem, glad to do it. Funny thing is doing something like this has never crossed my mind once during all the other MMOs that have launched over the years. I think something in my gut told me this was worth doing because I have absolute confidence that ANet would deliver and get us out of MMO hell.

Oh don't worry, only the races and professions will be in images, everything else will be plain text. These two are about as image heavy as the OT will get.

New interview with Colin - part 1

http://www.guildwars2hub.com/featur...w-colin-johanson-part-one#.T_wmf8aQalo.reddit

"Pride and hubris are dangerous things in this industry, though; they’ve killed many potentially great games in the past when teams assured themselves they had a hit and didn’t listen to the feedback."

Indeed.
" I’d probably be demoted to lead content designer of toilet cleaning if I gave away any of the exact numbers…so instead I’ll just say the pre-purchase sign-ups have surpassed any of our expectations at this point, and they just keep going up."

"I plunged a plunger, I plunged a plunger, I plunged it again...hey...I want my job back /cry"

The larger the audience that supports the game, the larger we can make our live team to support that audience of people, so it’s sort of a win-win for everyone at this point. We’re already starting to outline some of our plans going into the live-support mind-set, and I think, frankly, that people will be blown away by the kind of support this game is going to get after it ships. This isn’t just a game; a truly successful MMO is a service, and you have to be prepared to absolutely blow away your customers with the quality of your support if you want them to keep using your service. Our goal is to provide the best live experience anyone has seen in any MMO, period. If that wasn’t our goal, we wouldn’t be able to do it!

WHERE'S MY DAMN KOOLAID!?!

So I added the Amazon key to my account for free beta play, but I recently bought GW2 from another site and have my key.

How the hell do I go about adding my key? The website layout is terrible and there's no place to add it.

I'm seeing great stuff Jira but I noticed the size of the profession image. It's too long on my screen and I assume that it'll be that way for many of the other users.

Just register a second time with same email and info, but with the new key.

I changed from a BWE1 beta key to prepurchase this way, and it worked.

Uh, who says endgame content is boring?

That's not quite what I said. What I said was that for people who are only concerned about level capped content, there will not be enough content to remain fun for several years time by merit of the content alone. No game has ever done this. The only way the content is worth playing over and over again for years is by providing a slow trickle of rewards to players, so they feel that it is worth their time to continue doing tasks that would otherwise not be worth doing that often. The tasks might be fun the first few times, but after that rewards are the only thing people come back for. This is the way that WoW works, and this is the way that Diablo 2 worked, and how COD works for that matter. It's all about rewards and feedback, not about content. That's not to say that content isn't there, or that it isn't important... just that the content alone doesn't keep people playing.

GW2 is using a different model. They won't necessarily have any more content than any other MMO, but the design philosophy is about making each task worthwhile on its own merit, rather than solely on the rewards. The obvious reality of this is that people will not be able to play this game 8 hours a day for 4 years on a single character and never run out of stuff to do. Even with frequent expansions, the content team cannot keep up with that pace. People who want to play this way will run out of content, especially if they decide to ignore content below the level cap, and will either need to use PVP modes to give them something fresh to play every day, find another game to supplement their GW2 playtime, or just move on to a new MMO.

It's inaccurate to say that GW2 doesn't focus on PVE. There is not a shortage of PVE content in this game. Its just that their content design doesn't cater to hardcore raid-style MMO players. This is not a game that will ever provide that experience.
