Yeah, you definitely find the wrong guys. I like all of those traits! I just find people that go for sex.
I like all those traits, too. Heck, if I saw someone with a big movie collection, I'd tell them to recommend some stuff/make me watch stuff with them. I think it's fun learning a thing or two in areas you're weak in from others--especially if they're passionate about what they're sharing with you. It's nice.

Is this a request for movie recommendations? I'm so ready to talk about Wong Kar-Wai.

Nonsense man. This isn't Fire Island. Besides, I believe bear week is currently taking place there.
Go and have fun, stop thinking you're too fat to do anything. If being fat is a problem for you (and it looks like it is) then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Change your diet, start exercising, etc.

You'll most likely ignore this but I thought I'd try.

Thanks but i don't want to be lumped in with the bear crowd. I think I might now avoid P-town altogether. From the advertisements it seems guys like me are not there.

I would definitely agree with you. It's always more interesting when a guy will talk to you about what he is into and passionate about. It could be a way to broaden your own interests as well.

Haha. If you want me to watch something, I'm all ears. I have both Netflix and Hulu, but I almost never watch movies, just shows.

Sins: Never watched any of the Alien movies. Never seen any Ghostbusters movie. Pretty much anything considered a classic, I probably missed. I thought it'd be fun to watch as many of the top movies on some internet lists (posted on GAF) eventually.

That's one of the main reasons I like sharing, honestly. Plus, it feels nice to get "Wow, this is awesome!" reactions to something you introduced to someone. One I enjoyed was getting a friend into the Baten Kaitos series. Feels nice!

I watched Alien recently. After years of hearing how it's one of the best sci-fi movies, the only thing I can say is that I was completely disappointed. Just a standard slasher B-movie with aliens. Awesome cinematography, but that's it.

Really? When I try to talk to people about things I'm interested in I usually get disinterested stares or just told to be quiet.

Guess your mileage will vary.

Watch Aliens it is a bit better.

If I had to choose three movies to watch they'd be the below. I have the best taste in movies, so if you've already seen any of these and disliked them, I might have a breakdown.

#1 Clue: Copying this from the "What's your favorite movie?" thread: I used to play Clue alone and act out fight scenes and scandalous romances with the Clue pieces the same way most people played with action figures, so when I finally saw the movie and it turned out to be an exact replica of what I had acted out, it was absolutely brilliant. And Mr. Green was always my favorite character, so when he turned out to be gay
until the last four seconds
, my mind exploded. The trailer isn't very good, so trust me when I say it's the best comedy I've seen. As a reference, Girls and The IT Crowd are two of my favorite shows.

#2 Chungking Express: Of the two Wong Kar-Wai films I've seen (the other being In the Mood for Love), this is my favorite. It's a beautifully shot movie with a wonderful soundtrack. I'm (obviously) not a movie critic, but there's something about this movie that feels so intimate that I want to rewatch it again and again. I love the scenes of Tony Leung combing the hair of stuffed animals. I love watching Takeshi Kaneshiro eat canned pineapples as he cries. I love Faye Wong's pixie-like presence. I love the use of California Dreamin'. Chungking Express is such a fantastic movie. Again, the trailer I linked to is awful.

#3 Tampopo: I love food and I love Asian cinema, so a piece of Asian cinema about food is the best thing ever. Tampopo is composed of a series of vignettes about food, and each vignette has a wonderful sense of humor and touch of whimsy and romanticism that I adore. I've never been so hungry watching a movie either. You'll eat copious amounts of ramen after seeing this movie, guaranteed.

I've never seen past the first Alien movie (which I loved) despite owning them. I've seen Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, and Ghostbusters, but none of them made an impression on me. I've never seen The Godfather or The Dark Knight. I wanted to catch up on movies this summer, but I completely forgot. It's hard for me to watch movies.

Same here. The main reason I listen to podcasts is because it's the only way I can listen to a discussion of things I'm interested in.

I'm all smiles right now :)

i went on a date the other day with a guy i met on jack'd. I arrived at his place around 8:00pm and he told me he wanted to cook dinner for me so we went to the supermarket and bought a bunch of ingredients. It was actually really cute buying groceries together lol. On our way out, we decided to rent a dvd from redbox to watch after dinner. he wanted to watch The Woman In Black, and even though i knew it was a horrible movie, i didn't say anything haha. We got back to his place and he started preparing the food (stuffed giant bell peppers) and he told me to put some music on. we sang almost every song i put on together LOL. It was pretty fun. I asked if he needed help with anything and he wanted me to wash the fruits in the sink. As i was rinsing off some peaches, he came up behind me, rested his head on my shoulder, put his arms around me and grabbed my hands. He whispered "you're too rough on them. here let me show you..." it was so cute. After dinner, which was amazing, we put on the movie.

The movie was horrrrrrrible!! We were cuddling the whole time and making jokes about Daniel Radcliffe and how we couldn't think of him playing any other role other than Harry Potter. By the time the movie ended, it was around 3:30 am. I live an hour away from him and i didn't really want to drive back that late as i was really sleepy so he offered to let me stay at his place. We went back to his room and laid down a bit. We kissed and cuddled. He told me his parents were coming home at 7:00am and they would freak if they saw us together. He said i didn't have to leave early, but that he would have to be sleeping in a different room when they arrive. He said that he would lay with me until i fell asleep and would make sure that he was the first thing i saw when i woke up. Sure enough, i fell asleep with him and woke up next to him haha.

it was 12:00pm when i woke up. we decided to get In N Out for lunch and then head to this really bourgie mall to shop around for a bit. We held hands for a while and people were giving us looks, but we didn't care. Afterwards, we went to Newport Beach and made a bunch of sand drawings. We fell asleep on the beach and woke up in time for the sunset. I didn't want to drive home late so I told him that i'd better head out. He took us back to his place and we said our goodbyes.

We plan to see each other again very soon but he's coming over to my place this time. I had a lot of fun and i hope for the best! He's really sweet, gentleman-like, and his body is amazing haha. Any ideas on what i should cook for dinner? :)

Damn that sounds like an amazing guy. What a true Romeo. Like holy hell I don't think they make them like that in heaven. Make him some pizza :P I eat healthy and exercise but holy fuck do i miss junk and shit food. If a man made me a pizza, id be in heaven. Plus making a pizza with someone is pretty fun!

btw, started p90x and went back to swimming, after a couple of months of beer and sadnees i looked like an alcoholic 40 years old...want to bulk up before going to Korea, can't wait to have some free time for myself

Hey, awesome to hear someone from this thread starting P90x. im on week 5 so i have some experience and if you need any advice or have any questions shoot me a PM :)

I love you so much right now.

I also enjoyed Murder by Death which is similar to Clue in its humour and style.

oh man, you're my new favorite gaffer Especially since you've replaced your terrifying avatar.

I'll check out the movie! Comedic murder mysteries are great.

Clue is...an interesting film. I don't like it too much, though the singing telegram part always makes me laugh.
What did you dislike?

I have only seem parts of the first Ghostbusters movie so I am in the same boat as that one. I checked the other day at Oscar winners and I have only seen 10 movies out of the entire list of winners.

I have only been able to share my interests with one person I had a relationship with but I wish I could with more people. I have turned a couple of my coworkers to my favorite bands and they have fallen in love with them as well which made me very happy though.

Really? When I try to talk to people about things I'm interested in I usually get disinterested stares or just told to be quiet.

I get the same response with most people I have shared my interests with and have only had one or two decent responses. It doesn't help that I have strange tastes though.

I'm really curious about this now too. How strange can they really be?

How can someone not like bees?! They give us delicious honey!

this person lives in my old stomping grounds then, I wonder if I know them

Not necessarily so strange but not very common.

My top two favorite bands are Sigur Rós and Eluvium. I have a strange choices in movies sometimes also since my favorite movies are The Labyrinth and The Fountain.
The David Bowie film?

I bought Labyrinth and Dark Crystal on Bluray Combo :P

But i mean... i grew up on those films so I will love em always. DC i prefer greatly though.

You guys can't brag about how weird/amazing your taste is and then not post any examples. :(
I wasn't bragging at all. I don't think anything is odd or strange.

Music: Not strange at all.
Films: Not nearly close to strange at all, either. (The Fountain's soundtrack is great.)

I didn't particularly like The Labyrinth -- I watched it last year.

Fantastic choices! I have The Labyrinth on DVD but will buy it on bluray eventually. I really like Dark Crystal as well.

You win. I can't stand Labyrinth. It's right up there with The Sandlot as my least favorite movie.

Oh come on, it's such a fantastic movie!

I heard a rumor that Tim Burton was remaking the film and I will be greatly disappointed if he does. It won't hold up without having David Bowie's famous crotch shots.

You know of the two bands?

Clint Mansell is a genius with soundtracks and his work on the Fountain is magnificent. Mogwai worked on the sountrack as well and I love them also.

I think a good amount of people on GAF are familiar with them, and after Clint Mansell's work on ME3, people are probably aware of him too.

I have only met a few people offline that have known who Sigur Rós is but I don't know anyone personally who knows who Eluvium is. I have turned a few people over to liking them though.

He only did two songs on ME3.

Of course.

Sigor Ros isn't some unknown entity. :p

I haven't heard of the Kronos Quartet but they were on The Fountain OST, too.

Oh, didn't know that. He's a large enough name though, and there was a decent sized thread about it. His soundtrack for Moon was great.

I just saw Sigur Rós mentioned in the Finnish thread. I used to visit last.fm pretty frequently which is how I've heard of Eluvium, but I've never listened to any of the man's music. I like Sigur Rós well enough, but they're like Animal Collective in that I heard about them, listened to an album (Takk for Sigur Rós, Merriweather Post Pavilion for Animal Collective) and really loved what I heard and then tried going through their other stuff and was completely turned off.
