Why did Uncle Alfred know her figure dimensions? You still haven't answered this.

To be absolutely serious for a moment, I was most definitely banned for using the c-word. However, I'm assuming that what happened was that a mod started reading the thread, saw that post and banned me. Then probably continued reading, saw my warning from Opiate, saw that I ceased and desisted, and overturned the ban.

*shrugs*

Or: my methods ARE supernatural

You pick your reality.

Your guess is correct.

I'd also like to take this time to make it clear that rules which we have previously been relatively lax about (e.g. allowing people to use very mean spirited, vulgar or bigoted language) is going to actually be enforced in the future.

GAF is slowly growing up. We've always been slightly more mature than most other gaming forums, by maintain at least an eighth grade reading level; our hope is to slowly edge towards ninth grade, and this is part of that process.

If you have any questions about our rules, please feel free to contact me or another moderator. Thank you.

Let me write that again, in bold, so the word continues to get out: we're going to be enforcing our rules on language and conduct more strictly in the future. Words like "cunt" and "bitch" will be moderated, just as words like "nigger" or "fag" already are.

This has actually already been the rule of the land, we just haven't been enforcing it. The purpose is to gradually elevate the level of discourse on GAF so that it becomes an increasingly friendly, reasonable place for people to be geeks and nerds. Thanks.

Is it contextual or zero-tolerance?

It's going to be hard not saying the b-word. Not in the offensive variety, but I mean.... There's a Batman quote with it.

I figured as much. I do enjoy some of the words mentioned, it's not a language killer not using them. Part of the problem are the individuals who can't separate the difference of context and people just using them to attack other members. Because of that alone, I rather not even read or use them.

Just want a final clarification. If the word B***tch is used in a sentence like "He was B***tching about it last week", is that still considered going against TOS?

Thanks

This should really be made clear in a new thread. So many people are going to get banned otherwise.

I'm 100% ok with that. But Breaking Bad is about to return, so expect a lot usage of the word 'bitch'. =P

It's going to be hard not saying the b-word.

Definitely contextual, always. For example, I just said all four of those words, and you'll notice I'm not banned! Generally speaking, regarding the word "bitch," if the word is clearly not intended to apply in a gender sensitive way -- if you use it as a synonym for "asshole" or "jerk" -- it will be fine.

But other uses are not fine. If you are applying it to a woman in a situation that might be even remotely gender-specific, be careful. Also, applying it to a man in such a way that you intend to emasculate them, or imply they are weak or pathetic, is also not appropriate. So, "stop being a bitch" is not appropriate, for example.

Context will always matter. While sometimes people are not moderated simply because we don't see the post (it happens), many times people complain that [Poster X] was banned for saying a bad word, but [Poster Y] was not, and people think this is unfair. As you say, however, context matters -- the same exact words can mean very different things coming from different people at different times.

This makes the rules harder to follow, I realize this. They are not hard, fast, simple rules. We are relying on your ability to be reasonable and mature, and in almost all cases you'll be fine if you do.

Again, feel free to send me PMs if you need. Thanks.

Eh, I've always disliked his variant on the Penguin.
It's Tim Burton's Penguin. DeVito salvaged whatever he got...you kinda fell sorry for him in the end. Best part of the movie is obviously Michelle Pfieffer. Batmobile was awesome, and Batman had all sorts of nice gadgets, one of which was included in Batman: Arkham Asylum/City, which was the remote controlled batarang.

The ravashing Batgirl and King of Games is very pleased with these rules on swearing and certain words.

It's good that we can really tone it down with that stuff around here, it gets out of hand.

Problem with that was it became Batman: TAS, Penguin. For the final variant of TAS they did revert back to a more traditional Penguin.

My dream is a low-key version of the Peguin played by Bob Hoskins. That would be fantastic.

That's a relief, because I was definitely gonna let a "gruesome son of bitch" slip somewhere in this thread.

Fell sorry for Penguin or fell sorry for DeVito?
