Forza Horizon - Fall 2012 - Developed by PlayGround Games

I can't say much, but I think Thomas has spent his time well. ;)

Aw come on - spill some beans. We get our balls tickled by Dan's feather duster too often as it is. Don't start doing Thomas's teasing for him, it'll drive us all loopy.

What do you know?

Pre-order news:

“Forza Horizon” Pre-Order Details and Limited Collector’s Edition Unveiled
Pre-order “Forza Horizon” and hit the road in this year’s hottest racing game, “Forza Horizon,” available starting October 23

On October 23, it’s all about speed, style and freedom on the open road as “Forza Horizon”--recognized at E3 2012 by IGN, Destructoid, G4TV and Electronic Gaming Monthly as one of the most anticipated racing games of the year--hits the streets. Starting today, fans can pre-order the game at participating U.S. retailers and receive an Instant Incentive download code for a custom “Forza Horizon”-themed 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 that can be driven today in “Forza Motorsport 4:”*

• 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392: Remember the days when American muscle was all about straight line speed and knock-you-back-in-your-seat acceleration? Those days have returned with the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392. With 470 horsepower and aggressive styling, the 2012 Dodge Challenger is beauty and brawn combined. Pre-order “Forza Horizon” and get your Dodge Challenger in “Forza Motorsport 4,” now at participating retailers.

In addition, fans who pre-order “Forza Horizon” at participating U.S. retailers will receive an additional token, while supplies last, to unlock one of the following five cars that will be instantly available when the game launches this October:

• 2012 Aston Martin Virage: Plush luxury meets awesome performance in the 2012 Aston Martin Virage. Comfortable enough for a long Sunday drive, yet sporting a blistering 490 horsepower V12, the Virage continues Aston Martin’s legacy of creating cars that deliver prestige and performance.
• 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG: While Mercedes doesn’t refer to the new SLS AMG as the “Gullwing,” this car is absolutely the return of the famed automotive icon. With more than 560 horsepower, the SLS AMG is a track tamer nearly without equal, and its classic, sophisticated lines will attract car lovers of every stripe.
• 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia: A new Ferrari is always cause for celebration, and you can still hear the cheers from fans of the 458. The famed Italian automaker went above and beyond the call with this gorgeous example of road-devouring art. The 458 produces 562 horsepower and has a top speed over 200 mph, giving it the kind of performance needed to master the world’s greatest race tracks.
• 2010 Nissan 370Z: The long line of Z model cars has a prestigious history and loyal following, but anyone can appreciate the beauty and power of this Japanese masterpiece. The 370Z features grippy handling and drift-worthy rear wheel drive, motivated by a 3.7-liter, V6 with more than enough juice to excite even the most die-hard of sports car enthusiasts.
• 2010 Volkswagen Golf R: Available only in Europe as a limited edition model, this could be the sportiest Golf to date. 267 horsepower from its 2.0-liter turbo make it a kick in the pants when pushed, and it can be pushed all the way up to a governor-mandated 155 mph. Twin central exhaust tips, L shaped LED taillights, and plenty of glossy black give the Golf R a look that matches its performance.

Now digital tokens have a quantity?

Come on..

BTW VIP program? Okay, Collector's Edition for me again. Damn that money.

** “Forza Horizon” Accelerator tokens will allow you to speed up your career with instant access to exotic cars, in-game popularity spikes, fast passes and instant map unlocks.

Great, now I do not even need to play!

I don't know how I feel about preordering a VIP now I've seen what happened with both FM3 AND 4. Preorder to get one car, then find you can buy all four (or whatever) for pretty much the same or less than the difference b/w the regular and VIP ones.

Fuck that.

Hurray... Pay to cheat... not for me!

eh, i don't see it as "cheating" just being "cheap" in game terms. it doesn't fundamentally change the game, just moves people up the game faster in exchange for more money. Turn 10 makes money this way off rentals, secondary sales, etc. it is revenue and completely optional.

you might as well get used to it now. because the "Free-to-Play" model of paying a base price for the game (be is $10 or $60) with the option to pay more for more access is only going to be more prevalent. It is an economic reality that everyone needs to get used to, good or bad.

The 458, 370Z and SLS-AMG are pre order exclusives, really? :/ Fuck this, guess I'll pick up the all inclusive GOTY edition later down the road.

Tasteful cover choice imo EXCEPT the 'horizon' in that style and size reads like a 'warning'. It's not Forza it's a Forza spinoff, you've been warned!

Anyone seen how replays handle given the open world environment?

really weak LE content and VIP stuff. sad they seem to be doing the same preorder bonuses exclusive to specific retailers thing that fm4 did with cars.

very interested in the game though.

Is that a steelbook case, my only weakness?

I kinda want it but I know I'll be having a hard time to get this Edition, plus it feels a little thin/empty comparing to Forza 4.

Wonder how the pre-order will work on Europe, hope it can be available in the majority of stores...

Nah, I think you just get a token (similar to FM4's tokens you can buy with real money to buy cars in career) that will unlock it instantly in career. Way better than the exclusive shit we got for FM4 IMO.

BTW, looks like the big edition with bag and everything didn't end up being made. Looks like FH will continue the downward trend of LCEs for Forza... :(
You're just paying for five cars and a steelbook now as the VIP status will probably be available six months after launch on the XBLM.
Does it seem ridiculous to anyone else that we'll be getting our third VIP membership ? I hope they change their model for next-gen with something spaning over several games (or, as I'd like, a single FM game evolving during the generation).

As a stingy mofo buying one or two games per year, I don't mind going for the LCE again.

Hoping the 458 is the GAME exclusive if the LCE can only be obtained from them (going by F4), although it'll probably be something shitty like the Golf.

Agreed. Fuck LCEs and the bullshit elitist wallet-raping philosophy behind them. I've been fooled into having buyer's remorse too many times.
Remember when we used to pay for a game and, like, actually get the full game?
Ah... Good times.

Or when a preorder bonus was just a keyring and not actual game content? Yeah, I remember that. Long fucking time ago, though :/

Alive and Kicking™
Operative word being "just". Was that for FM3? I can't remember...
Oh, wait!
Three editions of Forza Motorsport 3 have been released: Standard and Limited Edition and a later Ultimate Collection. The Limited Edition consists of[14] a Forza branded USB stick; a Forza branded key chain, a VIP Membership for use on the online Auction House and Community Storefront; an exclusive car pack of five cars[15] and a Forza Motorsport 3 theme for the Xbox 360 dashboard.
In September 2009, Microsoft announced a special limited edition Xbox 360 console for Forza Motorsport 3. The unit includes a 250GB hard drive, two wireless controllers, a wired headset, and the standard edition version of the game.[16]
In October, 2010, an Ultimate Collection version was released, which includes all DLC along with several new cars including the Plymouth 'Cuda, Jaguar D-Type, Lancia 037, and Porsche 550.[17]. Also included was an exclusive DLC pack titled "Stig’s Garage Car Pack" which included the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the Koenigsegg CCX, and the Lexus LFA. This pack was exclusive to the Ultimate Collection and angered many fans who had bought the game at launch and the DLC and were now excluded from having the new cars.[18]
I have no problem with the initial preorder bonus being a singular thing, but breaking it off as different bonuses for different stores THEN putting them all up in one pack for everyone to download is bullshit. Offer all preorders the same cars and inform people that for plebs it will be available later and be more expensive, or don't do in-game preorder shit at all.

Also, bolded.

So yeah, no fucking way am I preordering for any kind of bonus. Will maybe wait a week or so and import for cheap from the UK or something. Probably do the same with FM5 as well.

Operative word being "just". Was that for FM3? I can't remember...
Oh, wait!

I have to admit that I bought both FM3 Collectors Edition and Ultimate Edition later.

Since Ultimate was damn cheap (like 13 euros or something) I actually saved loads of money with buying it later because I didn't buy a single FM3 DLC because of the insane in-game pricing scheme and fact how DLC was made in order to milk everything from early adopters without any true improvement in-game besides adding more vehicles and one track (Nurb came in Ultimate for free).

That is the same reason I didn't buy any FM4 DLC after expiration of the Season Pass - with exception of Porsche Pack - because I really hate the current milking scheme. No gameplay-development, no new features, no additional options or patches - just cars, cars, cars. I have 600+ cars in the game, i really do not need any more.

The current development in the genre and business sucks as much as it can suck, period.

I love the way games are sold as having "additional content", as if that content only ever existed as a bonus to people willing to either pay for the game in good faith before its even finished or reviewed (the "pre-order"), or pay over the odds for a Limited Edition (and by "limited" they usually mean one less than infinity, as these versions are invariably still available for sale two years later).

Why not tell the truth and say "we cherry-picked the best parts from the finished game, stripped them out and expect you to pay extra for them if you want them back in again".

Developers must think we are fucking stupid. And we usually are.

It's such bullshit. Makes me VERY angry.

I feel enlightenment when paying for extra content.
I am at peace.
You must surrender your will in order to understand it all.
The Leader is good. The Leader is great.
I love you Leader..

I don't even want a monetary tally of all I've spent on fm2, 3, and 4. Ugh. Turn 10 must love gamers like me... "I want new and old tracks back, but hey new cars you say? OK!" "LCE/VIP/FUC? Let's do it!"

Out of all the content for each, I think there was only one DLC pack I didn't buy in 3. I've even bought some of the LE preorder cars in 4. And maybe a token or two when I first got it.

I guess I don't buy a lot of games period (and own even fewer), so any content available for racing games I own I just lap it up. Sad I know.

*sigh*

But I'm not alone, I know a lot of you guys have too. Lest they wouldn't keep doing this, right?

Well, it's decided. Not preordering, not getting the maxxi edition. If they don't think I need those cars in the vanilla game, then neither do I. I'll wait, import, and with the money I save I'll get the preorder "exclusives" at a later date when they hit the marketplace.

German preview of Horizon. They're saying that there is dynamic weather. I think they are mistaken though. Translation is a bit rubbish. Any Germans here care to translate?

Real action, simulastisches ride

For everything you do, there's "Forza Horizon" points: For drifting, if you ramming an opponent of the line or break through a fence to take a shortcut. Almost always pops up a little yellow number at the height of the rear-view mirror to unlock cars and new fields. And how it rides? Breathe "Forza" fans can, for "Forza" is "Forza". We turn off all driving aids, the Viper feels really snappy on, we must be careful that the tail does not break and commute the car again. Even the underbody makes big difference, since "Forza Horizon" is a fully dynamic weather system brings. Decide we become a shortcut through the desert and it starts to rain, the fine grains in the thick mud ever locked the wheels and allows us to be much slower.

Once reset, please

"Forza Horizon" plays a lot with the weather in general and its surroundings. We want an opponent in the Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 can overtake that briefly spin the wheels on sand swirls and blows us the seeds on the windshield. It quickly developed a great momentum, because the desert, finally, not a closed course and not really tight, ergo, we drive the enemy extensively overhaul and not directly head-to-head. If you lose control completely, and sometimes crashed into a tree crashing into a house, or kissing the guardrail, flashing a "Y Rewind" button. So you can rewind time and iron out the error once.

The Fast and the Furious. Action and Party

In terms of staging is the new developer Playgrounds Games at full throttle. The British care little change to "Forza" conventions and "Horizon," a David Guetta more in concert than a boring race simulation. At night, DJs spin and swing their hips and slams hot ladies on the day groovy sound from the speakers as it is otherwise rather of "Need for Speed 'are used to. Even the cars look a bit more stylish, can be tuned with underbody lighting and chrome fixtures. Whether a nitrous oxide injection has been provided but not yet revealed, but as our Viper SRT had a red button on the steering wheel NOS is likely that "The Fast and the Furious" feature considered to be confirmed. The eponymous "Horizon" festival as a whole played very consistent and prevents you must you click through menus as usual. Instead, you look with your car, at the Tuner next time just to raise over thicker rims and racing at PR events for Porsche to win send a new base.

Conclusion

Do not worry love racing purist: The original developer Turn 10 is working on "Forza Motorsport 5" needs, but a little more time. Therefore, this party speedster is inserted, but has made us really, really happy. Microsoft has compiled with the Playground Games is a dream team from the former studio Bizarre Creation (PGR, Blur), Black Rock Studio (Split / Second), and many designers from Codemasters, which conjured up before with "Grid" and "dirt" amazing racing games on the asphalt have. The love of racing you can feel the ride is clearly tuned for authenticity and "Horizon" to continue a "Forza" simulation. But just one that makes noise, and parties celebrating the pop-alternative sound with 300 cases out of the speakers can.

While I am very excited to get this game and although I just yesterday pre-ordered the limited edition I am worried...

All I have seen from this game so far are cars I can already drive in Forza 4

From that article:

No, the handling model is Forza 4, it's exactly the same as that.

Turn 10: "realism doesn't always make fun"
...
In an open world game, you're really flying around corners at higher speeds generally, because you're not in that cadence of braking and turning. We needed to make sure that we greased the rails, so to speak, and just let you glide along. That keeps you on the road a little bit more.
...
The surfaces feel right but the cars would probably be destroyed in real life, but we let you have fun with that. Realism doesn't always make fun - authenticity is important but so is fun.

So its authentic, but not realistic? Hopefully this is just in relation to some of the crazier surfaces? Not sure what to think here.

There's just cosmetic damage, you won't have your cars ruined by driving on surfaces they're not made for.
If that's all they mean I'm fine with that. As long as the physics model is solid. What I really want is Forza open world, not Forza arcade open world. You can always enable assists to make Forza more forgiving as it is.
