I am careful what purpose the different colored back serves, I know we've had the discussion a few pages ago, but Apple doesn't strike me as a company that would make the backplate different colors just for the heck of it.

I think the one big positive out of all this is they kept the same basic hard edge shape. I would have hated to go back to rounded edges again.
The only thing I don't like is the camera placement.
If it were up to me it'd be like this:
yessss this is visually the exact issue I have with the design. If it is moved up slightly or the separation of the two materials was moved so that the camera was more centered, it would make the design 10000% better. It is a small thing but it drives me nuts.

That's an excellent white render, only thing that seems off (about both) is the raised Apple logo on the back. From what we've seen, it looks like the traditional flattened style, not raised.
But yeah, not a fan of either (dat back plate), but I can get behind the black one at this point.

I've had enough annoyances with my Droid Bionic that it in some ways has felt like a downgrade when I replaced my 3GS with it last fall. I may just take the off-contract hit and get the new iPhone.
So far the leaks make it look a little goofy, but there's a fine line between goofy and cool, and we'll see on which side of that line the product lands when it's released.
It's also depressing that the Bionic will get $99 on Gazelle, while the 2-years-older 3GS will get $85. Why did I get that darn thing...

This guy sucks at choosing materials:
The antenna is more matte than this, the Apple isn't embossed and less reflective, the inside of the camera isn't that light.
Other than that, expect exactly this in October.

That would be awesome. Not sure how well the other hardware components (CPU, NAND speeds) would be able to support the higher throughput, though.
It's a pretty standard chip from broadcomm at this point, assuming it's not locked out by software, it'll be on board.

If it wasn't obvious enough, this is a different leak altogether. Shot of the back back/inside of the front plate.
Might be an older version or a fake, but you can see that the front camera is not centered, the headphone jack position is reverted back to where it was, the top bezel is thinner than the lower one, etc.

My Droid X is on it's last leg, this iPhone needs to get here sooner. Be going for white most likely.
same here. nice, walled "ghetto" with the perfect size screen for one handed operation. I wish phones weren't getting bigger. Maybe all this would be different if the veer had taken off. I regret poking fun at it now.
Well, get used to it.
I used to joke about how BIG the Galaxy Nexus looked. Now? I can't go back to a 3.5" screen. Anything between 4.5 and 4.8 is prefect for me. I have not held the Note, but my co-worker has the S3 and it's thinness helps manage the 4.8 screen.
I care about how it sits in my pants pocket and how I can operate it with one thumb. The pants pocket thing isn't so bad with the slightly taller phone but the one handed operation is.
As for the monster Android phones, well, I think they're ridiculous and fail on both those counts (cue the people with monster fucking pockets telling me I must be wearing skinny jeans). But they're not for me and I don't need to buy them, so whatever.
I would love it if Apple released an updated 4S shaped model with faster guts and kept the smaller size option around for years to come but I doubt that will happen.

Right on cue, but seriously, these larger phones flatten out. I feel my gigantic nexus less when it's in my pocket than I did my iphone-sized nexus one. Primarily because of the thinness and weight.
I hate these dumb pictures, why couldn't they take it of the two facing the same direction, or perhaps simply show us the bottom of the device rather than the plain unchanged (aside from headphone jack) top. Anyway, looks like they reverted the camera position back to the left. And is it just me or does that home button look weird? Obviously prototype casing and whatnot, but maybe there'll be more than meets the eye.
