The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

You know the few people on here that obsess over the GB guys to a point that it's real freaky? That's the majority of their community. That's why.

No one on IGN asks which staff member they'd like to have as a dad.

Jeff once again confirms his lack of taste in the RE6 quick look. Even as some one who loves the old school Resident Evil and thinks REmake is the best the series has to offer, you simply can't deny the Resident Evil 4 is/was a brilliant game from top the bottom. Not to mention it was a ton of fun to play.

I deny it was brilliant from top to bottom and it was not a ton of fun to play. What now? I thought you said it was impossible to do that. I don't know what to believe anymore.

Man, neither do I now!

In all honestly, Jeff's tastes just continue to baffle me, even after all these years. If often seems like you might as well just toss a coin on whether or not he'll like a game.

That's generally the same with anyone who plays a lot of games. Tastes among gamers don't directly align with Metacritic scores. That's why I find it really odd that so many games score so closely in-line between different publications, when in reality when you talk to these people their opinions seem to vary enormously.

Man, RE6 looks pretty bad. I had to skip past some of that boss fight stuff because the camera was causing me to lose my shit. It was bad enough in just the normal parts. It was kind of making me dizzy.

man, i love the farming simulator 2011 quick look. i bet i've watched it 3-4 times.
It's a good one.
Honestly it's why I no longer visit the forums myself. There are a large segment of users that are either socially inept or far too young to keep an intelligent thread going. Then there's the group that for whatever reason are there only to bring negative energy to the fray.

I hold Giant Bomb dear to my heart so it kind of sucks to see the forums be kind of terrible in that way. At least there's the photoshop threads or whatever. I only see those though when one of the staff members posts a link on Twitter.

Thank god for Twitter. I get my GB updates and going ons fed to me through there so I don't have to visit the forums anymore.

If you don't think Resident Evil 4 is a good game, then we literally have nothing in common as far as video games go, and reviews are essentially useless as mutual opinion predictors except for pointing out objective issues like technical problems.

....I could never get into RE4 either.

Please don't hurt me.

After RE3 I was pretty much done with the way Resident Evil games played. RE4 was much, much better than that but I only got a third of the way through before I found myself just not enjoying the game anymore. Yes, RE4 is an INCREDIBLE game and had some pretty substantial innovations in the third person action genre. But for how I like to play video games personally, it ended up just not being for me. I feel like it's the same for Jeff, and that should be okay.

I HATED the REmake for the GameCube. I never played the first Resident Evil, and I enjoyed it at first until I found out that because I had killed the zombies at the beginning of the game, they are now crimson-headed zombies when I revisit those areas.

Fuck this game.

It's all good. I'm not mad.

You're not a bad person who should feel bad or anything. We just don't have video game tastes in common.

Resident Evil 6 gets a lot better once you actually learn how to play it.
In this day in age video game controls/mechanics should be more intuitive than this. I guess this is Capcom though, and I guess if the final game has solid tutorials it's all a moot point.

I thought Secret World looked kinda cool. Interesting, at the very least. It definitely reminds me of how I felt the first time about Anarchy Online.

Will play when it goes f2p

I am disappointed watching the RE6 demo QL. Chris and Jake's part is very unwatchable as a RE game. I almost thought I'm watching Army of Two or some other generic TPS. Leon's part...well, seems Crapcom just goes into either complete action chaos or nothing. The fact that they have about just a month to fine tune and debug everything before shipping just doesn't make it look any better at release.

Secret World has quite some modern designs implemented, the world setting does in fact make it fresh. But it still is very generic MMORPGish with the overall structure.

For those of you who find the QL boring. Don't let brad's lack of knowledge on the gameplay mechanics dissuade your view on RE6. The gameplay has a decent amount of depth with all of the melee, dodging, and cover mechanics.

I guess capcom made the mistake of not including a tutorial in the demo for the less fortunate who don't like to experiment and figure out the game for themselves.

Also not changing to the "classic" laser sighting through the options makes the shooting look terrible.

I saw all that in the video, still looked boring. If you need to get explained how to play a game to make the game look like fun, then I don't know...

I don't think even if they played it "right" it would make the shooting look any more exciting. Maybe a higher difficulty or later levels would help but there doesn't seem to be the same tension as the other games. It doesn't seem like you have to make a decision about whether run or take a stand or look for ammo and stuff like that. The RE5 demo did a good job showing off these elements so I don't understand why they went with the chris segment for the RE6 demo.

Been a while since we had a post like this.

I liked RE5, too. Not bad being alone in a club with Brad and Vinny I must say.

RE6 is doing nothing for me, though. I kinda liked the reveal of the game, but the more they are showing it the less interested I get.

The environment doesn't look as interesting as 4 or 5 to me, and something about it seems generic. Maybe it's the faster pace and movement that is throwing me off.

I'm glad the classic sight is in. Since it sounds like you've played it, are pistols just as viable as machine guns? I fucking hate using machine guns in RE4/5. Just shooting at a guy until he dies is the antithesis of modern RE combat for me. The fact that you can melee enemies without first staggering them with precision shots also seems like it will really change the combat dynamics.

Dude, the TMP is a great gun to have in the arsenal in RE 4. Especially when facing Mendez on Professional without a RL.

While you can melee guys to death, it uses your stamina meter so that players cannot abuse it. You can also use a quick shot that staggers enemies if you tap both trigger simultaneously, but this uses stamina also.

I think that Pistols will be just as viable as previous entries dude to machine guns eating more ammo and doing less damage. I also found it kind of hard to stagger enemies without going for a headshot, but staggering gives you a rewarding finishing move that kills in one hit.

As for weapons, a larger majority of them have an alternate firing mode. EX: burst fire, full auto, single shot, thermal scope, dual pistols. It seems to be character dependent, which has me worried about weapons being locked to characters.

That's okay, the melee, dodging, and cover mechanics are dissuading me from the game on their own.
