Aren't you reading these forums? People think Obama did nothing for 3 years and there are millions out there who think like them.

Can't you see the ads now?

"George Romney released his taxes.....Barack Obama released his taxes.....why won't Mitt Romney?

What is Mitt Romney trying to hide from the American people? What secrets is he harboring?"

i think there are 1 of 2 things Romney will do, pick the safest dullest person to augment his dullness, or pick a batty off the wall whack job which will immediately turn this into 2008 redux... with an even less competent top of the ticket

The longer Romney drags his feet on tax returns, the harder it will hit him. Best just get it out of the way now and take it like a champ. I wonder which idiot is advising him not to.

How is it possible that we're in the middle of summer and and we already have things one would think would come up in the general election? Goddamn this fall is going to be glorious!

I really doubt it's Rice. She's pro choice after all

Looks like Romney is learning from the Obama camp. When you have nothing productive to show for yourself, change the subject!

Report: Bain Told Investors Romney Was Inactive In 2000
http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/07/romney-bain-capital-sankaty-fortune-inactive.php?ref=fpb

Looks like Romney is off the hook

Nope, doesn't matter if he wasn't part of the meetings, he was still the leader of the company by law so he can't say he had nothing to do with what the company did after 1999, by law he was solely responsible whether he chose to exercise that right or not is his choice and no one else.

Did Mittens ever say anything as racist sounding as he did yesterday? I know he's obviously said a million things that are out of touch, but not racist.

Hopefully, this'll be the thing that brings down his presidency. As depressing as it seems, having stupid policies aren't enough to hurt a candidate, but charges of racism usually are. Dunno about you guys, but I'll take what I can get.

What did he say that was racist yesterday?

It doesn't really, since there's still no explanation why his name was on the filings. I'm guessing it'll turn out to be something relatively innocuous, but it hasn't been explained yet.

It does get him off the hook for any investments made under Fund VII and the Venture Fund. What would really get him off the hook as far as still being involved at Bain is if a key man clause was triggered in 1999 when he left. I don't know for sure in Bain's case, but I'd think it fairly likely that his departure would trigger such a clause. That would clearly point to a lack of further involvement.

Well, it doesn't absolve him but if they have earlier documents showing they listed him as inactive it makes this being an error more defensible. Not like he is doing any of these filings himself.

If it was listed in error for 1999, sure I'll say maybe an error (don't know if it will fly with SEC). What about 2000 and 2001?

Edit:
Until 2002, when Romney and Bain Capital finalized a severance agreement, he remained the firm’s “sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president,” according to SEC documents. The description was applied even to the creation of five new Bain partnerships a full three years after Romney has said he relinquished all control.

So he was "inactive" yet holding the title of CEO and collecting the paycheck, yeah that doesn't work. If you hold the title and collect the paycheck you ultimately are responsible for all things good AND bad during that time, even if you delegate all authority.

Exactly. Good luck convincing people that you had nothing to do with a company when you were the CEO, President, Director, and main stockholder.

If I was Romney I would release the returns on the same day I made my VP pick which would be less than a week from the convention. He could also release them simultaneously with the VP's tax returns. Then you can bury the story not only with the VP pick, but the convention will drown it out as well. Should do it on the Friday before convention week.

I don't know, but at no point has he looked electable, positioned to win, or even plausible to win in the last 2 months...What is a little latent racism/classism to the pile when outright lies and a blatant disregard for anything that could be labeled a concrete plan.

I doubt she didn't already know that the Romney camp would be eying her as a potential VP. And really, it would be far from the worst choice they could make. Hell, it could almost be the safest.

Heh, Mitt's campaign told Drudge that Condi Rice is on the VP shortlist. I wonder if this is the first she's hearing about this.
Those would be some great VP debates.

I would think anyway from the Bush WH, besides Gates, would be consider damaged goods for obvious reasons. That said if someone could get Gates that would be a huge win, but he's done and retired. Next big person from the era would be Patraeus when ever he leaves his current job.

She's pro choice. Good luck with that. And I'd love to hear her pretend to be a foreign policy expert, given her record

She's also not married and has little interest in politics. Smoke screen

Rice as VP? Holy fuck, the amount of shitstorms that will create will be glorious.

From conservatives: A woman, again? A BLACK woman!? *Rage*
Liberals: Bush's SoS? *rage*

Oh god, yes! Please that happen.

There's no way a pro-choicer has ever been on their VP list, let alone the shortlist, unless they somehow overlooked that detail. This is just bullshit to distract from Bain.

A pro choice VP candidate who was one of the biggest names under "W"? I can't see that going over well

Exactly. I don't see how she shores up his foreign policy problems, given her own history in the Bush administration. Granted she was one of the few seemingly level headed people in that administration, but she was still a major member of "that" administration.

I'll bet money she's not the pick

Why not? It's not like he needs the super right any more, and they're not going to vote Obama or not. Most of that subset also dislikes Ron Paul so no write in, and these people detest Obama to let him win again. I joke that in PA where I live I see more Anti-Obama stickers than Pro Romeny ones. Then again Obama did insult larges parts of the state so it may be different versus somewhere else. But I'm not even in the "redneck" part of the state, that said when I go hunting in Potter County letter in the year I'll have to see if that still holds true as that is one of the most Republican counties in the state, gorgeous place though.

I'd agree with that for most issues, but abortion is the one where I think the base would completely draw the line. It's not like they would stop voting for Mitt en mass, but it would be enough lost votes to ensure he has no shot of winning. There's just absolutely no reason for them to consider a pro-choice VP when they have viable pro-life candidates.

It's either going to be Portman or Ayotte. Most likely Portman with how vital Ohio is to Mitt.

Mitt Romney's repeated claim that he played no part in executive decision-making related to Bain after 1999 is false, according to Romney's own testimony in June 2002, in which he admitted to sitting on the board of the Lifelike Co., a doll maker that was a Bain investment during the period.

He was on the board of a company Bain had invested in and came to MA for business trips related to that.

“I left on the basis of a leave of absence indicating that I, by virtue of that title, would return at the end of the Olympics to my employment at Bain Capital, but subsequently decided not to do so and entered into a departure agreement with my former partners. I use that in the colloquial sense, not legal sense, but my former partners."
