Watched Batman Begins for the second time yesterday.

BOY does that movie suck. I don't know why Solo's all crazy about it, it's one of the worst superhero films I've seen. There is without any doubt at least 8 lines of dialogues that are each repeated at least twice throughtout the movie, some multiple times, for a character to troll another one. I didn't notice that on my first viewing years ago, but the dialogue is simply atrocious, and there's not a single well directed fight scene in it.

Edit : There's even a game online about those repeated lines for emphasis? Wow. http://www.sporcle.com/games/Kolrad/batman-begins-repeated-lines

I see no redeeming feature in this film. Some lines from Caine looked like he was sleepwalking through it, the whole discussions between Batman and the villains are retarded, there's more close-ups and medium shots in this movie than in any other movie I've ever seen, every single information has to be shared via dialogue or via a close-up, there's absolutely nothing that's done with any kind of subtlety.

It looks like it was directed by a guy who just got out of film school.

At least The Dark Knight had Ledger's performance. Though I still gotta watch it again before seeing the third one... I'm afraid it's probably worse than I remember, too.

I don't agree with this post but I did lol @ the bolded. It's true.

Still I think the first hour is one of the best comic book films ever. After that it takes a bit of a nose-dive which puts it below TDK for me. Neither are as good as the Spiderman movies for me but TDK is top 5. BB maybe.

Now who's trolling?

I remember the days when Christian Bale was all anyone wanted to see. How long before the people turn on Fassbender?

Yeah I remember that as well. The Bale love that pretty much died with Terminator Salvation or his rant.

I give Fassbender another year or two

Now who's trolling?
It does, though. There's like a total of maybe 5-6 impressive shots in the whole movie. Every goddamn scene is a dialogue scene shot in shot/reverse-shot. There's probably 5-6 two-shots, too, it's all shot/reverse-shot, in close-up.

The editing isn't great either...

Seriously, The Amazing Spider-Man is a better movie, and it wasn't really good.

I find TDK to be a superior film, but there is no way that Batman Begins sucks that much. One of the worst superhero films of all time? In a world where Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, and Green Lantern exist.

Ok, it's probably better than those three, which are fucking incredibly bad. But I think BB is more boring than SM3 and XM3.

And the sandman scene in SM3 is a more interesting sequence, visually, than anything Nolan has ever done.

Damn at that BB hate. You must not have seen some truly horrible superhero movies like Catwoman, X-men Origins, or
Hulk 2003

Yeah, I rewatched Batman Begins and TDK this week. I still prefer the latter, mostly for the technical aspects. I don't quite get the Batman Begins love. It's a decent film, but a poor script made better by a solid director behind the camera. TDK could lose 30 minutes or so near the end, but it's just on such another level compared to BB. The scope is so much larger and it's just gives off an epic blockbuster feel like few others do. I still don't outright love either film, so TDKR could easily out-do both.

Batman Begins is completely inferior to TDK. The amount of ham-fisted dialogue is atrocious. Tom Wilkinson eating the sets and shitting them out. Cillian is strong in it and Neeson delivers on the part he always plays but apart from that, meh.

Those were more enjoyable than:

Thor
Captain America
Amazing Spiderman
The Incredible Hulk
Daredevil

I really liked Thor, kinda liked Captain America, like Incredible Hulk. I haven't watched ASM and Daredevil.

Seriously, name one visually interesting sequence in any Nolan film. And please don't tell me "Paris folding upon itself"...

Batman flying in Hong Kong looks quite lovely. Also, love the Bats as Back-up scene. There are some fuck-cool sequences, man.

What are you talking about? Please provide some examples. BB has plenty of evocative and well-framed shots.

10 minutes into the movie we see Bruce's journey to Rhas Al Ghul. You're out of your mind.

Its not who you are underneath, its what you...*SNORE*
My girlfriend and I both laughed out loud at the sequence where Batman says that to Rachel before jumping in the dark. It felt so fucking childish and immature on Batman's part, it sounded as if they were both in a schoolyard.

"You know who's in love with you?"
"No..."
"Well I'll spell it out for you, it's M-E!" /runs away

I kind of agree. Except then you have dat vault reveal in Inception. The best scene Nolan's ever filmed.

edit: Cillian Murphy in BB was unbelievably pretty as fuck.

That was awesome.

What drags BB down for me is Rachel. Such a terrible, judgmental character. "Oh Bruce, you're back after vanishing for seven years. I'm just gonna go ahead and never ask what you were up to and automatically assume you're a sexist douchebag jerk."

If you like segments like that, then you're going to love Prometheus.

Scene has nothing to do with him being in love with her.

Cillian Murphy should have been the love interest. I would seriously rather bang him than either Katie Holmes or Maggie Gylenhaal.

...there's a Tom Cruise joke lying around here somewhere.

Comparing an origins film with two films that are the last in a trilogy?

I actually watched begins for the first time in a few years the other day. I thought it was terrific, definitely top 5 super hero movies. Tdk is better though.

Holmes looked good in Batman Begins. GAF bangs nothing but supermodels lol

Bruce's journey to Rhas Al Ghul is actually the only time we see a character in the movie who's not seen in medium or close-up. The only other shots that are wide are the establishing shots of the different locations. If you want to do an experiment, just take the blu-ray or dvd, and fast forward using the skip button. Every scene starts with an establishing shot, and then it's all close-ups and medium shots from there.

No, but it has to do with revealing a secret in a very retarded way.

Seriously, name one visually interesting sequence in any Nolan film. And please don't tell me "Paris folding upon itself"...

Mememto, the hotel room, when he remembers sammy jenkins
Prestige, the final stage.
Insomina, the fog sequence where Pacino shoots the gun
Begins - when he is on the ice training
TDK - when they are forced to go to lower wacker drive. When joker walks out of the hospital , when batman rides his batpod
Inception - when mal ends her life, the room where cillians father is laying

The appearances are getting rarer and rarer though.
I know, I only come back when the Habs do something or when Nolan/Cameron release a movie so I can stir shit up.

But really, this time I am honest. I wanted to watch BB and TDK before seeing the last one, and I had a really good memory of BB. That blu-ray watching yesterday taught me that Nolan wasn't ever good.

Nolan is a very literal director. Very one-to-one. What you hear is what you get: if a character speaks, you can be sure the onscreen image will be of that character moving his mouth. If that character mentions something, then you can be sure that Nolan will cut to a close-up of that object. The vast majority of the time, he can only deliver information through dialog. This becomes very apparent in something like Inception, where everyone is constantly spouting exposition 140+ minutes, but Leo is the only one who ever approaches something like an actual character. Everyone else is just ciphers for Nolan to say things.

I thought it was a pretty cool scene actually. Most people I know in the real world actually love that moment in the movie (which is followed by an awesome image of devil-batman flying over toxin-infected Gothamites)

Since you are such a dynamic filmmaker, please explain the correct/better way to shoot a movie other than using a combination of establishing shots, medium shots and close ups.

I can't wait until the Subban brothers start brawling on the ice.

Nolan doesn't really have any traditional hokey action movie shots. I'm sure you can argue against some, but overall he keeps the fantastical to a pretty good minimum.
