Sonic Adventure 2 officially announced, leaking onto consoles this fall

I like Sonic Adventure 2, but I can't justify purchasing another copy of it. I wish there were more middle sonic fans instead of everyone going "SONIC IS AMAZING" vs everyone else going "Sonic hasn't been good since ____"

Sonic Adventure 2 is kind of a mess. I can understand liking the Sonic and Shadow stages, even if they're far from perfect, but everything else is pretty horrible.

Sonic fans seem to drink the most kool-aid from their own franchise than any other fanbase. It kind of reaches creepy levels.

If you want to have a hilarious hour on the internet one day, go to Google Image Search and type in your first name and then "the Hedgehog" and see all the bad art that comes up.

For example: "Cole the Hedgehog":

Does anybody here remember BLACKBusterCritic? Good times.

I only played Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the gamecube (loved it at the time) what are the differences between Adventure 2 and Adventure 2 Battle?

wat.

That's a lot of people now, believe it or not. Those kids that got Sonic Adventure 2 with their GameCubes for Christmas are now entering their 20's. Crazy.

For a while now, I've wondered what an alternate history where SA2:B was never developed and Heroes came out mid-2003 would look like. I suspect the overall trajectory of both the series and its fanbase would've changed considerably.

Negligible.

The largest difference was that one was on Gamecube and the other Dreamcast, meaning one used the GBA for the Chao Garden and the other the VMU.

Also I don't think the Gamecube had any of the online features, but instead had slightly more multiplayer options?

God, I don't know.

yeah, I think Sonic Labyrinth was the first truly terrible Sonic game. I had that piece of excrement back in the day. Though there were lots of pretty mediocre games if you want to include Spinball and some of the other GG titles.

But I would agree that Sonic Adventure 2 was the first 'mainline' Sonic title that made me put my controller down and want to do something else.

I've always wondered if the crazies came from that crummy Sonic cartoon that was on FOX from about 8 years ago or so. But I guess the addition of the dark, emo hog and an over-sexed anthropomorphic bat, and an increasingly serious/dark tone in the games might have had a large hand in it.

YES!!!!!!

One of the best 3d sonic to date, imho. Day friggin' zero!

Edit: Not the best. One of the best. Huge difference, lol.

The first Sonic Adventure is still one of my favorite games but SA2 was just an awful mess. Those Tails stages just brought the entire game to a halt.

The video in the OP....that's my idea of hell. Being trapped in a room with a bunch of sweaty Sonic fans going apeshit over a horrendously bad game. It's like the bizarro version of the Twilight Princess reveal.

I keep forgetting about Sonic X. It definitely helped drive the series' popularity at the time, but I don't think it contributed much to the downward spiral on its own. Didn't have much in the way of distinctive original ideas.

Well, except for that promotional Super Sonic shot that a certain segment was convinced was a new character despite all evidence to the contrary.

Another thing could be that Sonic is one of the few non-Nintendo game franchises since the early 00's that directly caters to very young children. That also isn't, you know, a game based on a Nickelodeon show or movie or something. So, bad or good, it stays popular because it's catering to a very large and often ignored audience.

I could be wrong, but that's just one theory.

I wonder how the achievements are gonna look like

Hopefully there's a chao one where you have to get it to the highest evolution.
