As disclosed by Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo in one of his interviews with AUTOMATON, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter was being developed in parallel with the 1st chapter remake, and it was only a matter of time before it got announced. And while there was a two-year gap between the releases of the original FC and SC, this time, as Kondo noted, they wanted to "avoid such a long gap," announcing the new game only a couple of months after Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter officially launched.
On a related note, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, the series' first 3D remake, debuted as Nihon Falcom's most successful Steam release to date with the highest record of concurrent players, surpassing even the expectations of the developers themselves. With an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on the platform and a Metascore of 88, the game has been showered with praise for its improved gameplay and graphics, and a longer, fleshed-out story that manages to stay true to the original narrative. It seems like the bar has been set pretty high for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, and hopefully, Nihon Falcom will be able to deliver the same quality it did with the first remake.

Sadly no Xanadu 2 or Horizon 2 in 2026 also.

Don't forget that we have a Kiseki megathread here!

Awesome, I really enjoyed the first chapter and it's nice to have a short wait for the story to continue. Hopefully they keep these going too, would love to see Zero and Azure redone with the same care

I hope part two is better than part one was. Very boring and mundane until the final chapter. I've played through most of the games, and the only one I really found to be exciting and adventurous was the Trails of Cold Steel arc.

The first games in an arc are usually the setup games. They are there to introduce the characters, the world and their relationships. Same happened in Cold Steel.

No shit. Cold Steel was much more interesting with many different locals and many more characters introduced from the start. Compared to TitS it's much more active even early on.

I agree with Cold Steel having more varied settings, although in my opinion what happened in a lot of those areas in the first chapters wasn't as interesting as what happened in Sky FC. You're problem solving stuff for people and a lot of it is not really related to the main plot, it's mostly there to introduce you to the (kind of too big) cast. Cold Steel starts getting traction around chapter 4.

Meanwhile Sky FC does have some of that problem solving stuff in the beginning, but after that most of what you're doing is tied one way or another to the main plot. It really doesn't have a lot of filler. And the finale leaves you jaw dropped wanting for more.

I agree. Another thing I didn't really like a bout Sky FC was that it felt candy-assed, awkward and too lite-hearted compared to the mysterious and dark setting of Cold Steel.

I could swear this was already announced, ah well.

First chapter was good but I'm already dreading how much longer Second will feel with the new engine/exploration.

And there's another Trails game releasing in a few weeks in January as well. Kiseki fans eating good.

I loved og first chapter, but second chapter didn't grab me in the same way and I didn't get far in it. That said, this remake enterprise is far more interesting to me if they're really able to put them out without a big gap between them.

Cold Steel I enjoyed but got burned out on during part 3.

Man, Falcom are working fast. They remind me of the "good ol' days" when you got good games that only took like 3 years maximum (in Falcom's case, they manage to basically deliver something almost every year).

They are good at making their games look good without spending fortune on it.

Well remakes were kinda made in parallel plus Falcom shifted Kai 2 and Xanadu 2 to release SC faster.

But yeah, they are very efficent by modern standarts.

That's a pretty good skill to have. I wish more devs had that skill as well.

Edit: That being said, they can fuck off with shit like Ys X Nordics -> Ys X Proud Nordics.
