Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Thought the same when I chose the class... I used a longbow thinking I'd get an advantage with distance. I guess not... either way, the ranger is still my primary class of choice.

On a somewhat unrelated note, watching Sword Art Online and the new episode that came out today, REALLY makes me want to play GW2 a heck of a lot more now. :O

I think until we experience bwe3, we can't make any assumptions on any class since it'll be their heavy balance/tweak event. As for ranged, Guardian has the worst ranged of all sunshine...8)

Hrm...some legendaries? (not sure if posted yet)

Someone found these in the BWE3 files.

I see some very familiar button icons on that image.

EDIT: Reading through the reddit more these might be older than BWE3, so it's probably nothing.

With the possible console version I heard about I would not be surprised to see native 360 controller support.

I hope they make Playstation button icons too, but I know they probably won't. I use my PS3 controller with MotionJoy so it would be awesome to have PS3 button icons. Just an aesthetics thing more than anything. Maybe it can be modded in somehow if they support UI mods?

I thought their greatsword skill was considered OP. Probably will get nerfed.

Rangers range sucks compared to a lot of other classes.

Yeah >.< I have been playing a ranger since B1(lv 35) and It really bothers me that the bow range is so small and we only have a skill trait to increase it.
pets die fast and they take more time to revive than other players >.< .Also some skill that uses your pet like the one that revives an ally are not that good or helpful.

Love summon pets, melee attacks are awesome( prefer using a Greatsword). I hope that the pre purchase Mist fire wolf elite skill is something awesome .

Im going to try out a dual wielding axe ranger in the beta. That just sounds bad ass

Curious about a controller set up issue

If i have R1 asswap set 2 and R2 as swap set 3, can i bind dodge to R1+R2 by sticking the dodge keybind to set 2 R2 and set 3 R1? If I can, I think it would help out a ton since i wouldnt have to use dpad up as one of the set swap buttons (kinda awkward), and I think R1+R2 would work well enough for dodge.

How about this? Give a question at character creation for a Ranger:

"I have always prided myself on _____________."

a) Being an expert marksman and lone warrior.
b) Following in my father's footsteps as a great hunter, with a loyal pet at my side.

a) leads to you not having a pet. You get increased range by default and perhaps a slightly higher chance of a crit while using a ranged weapon. Select b) and you get a damn pet.

For all the bitching people do about starting with an axe as a Ranger instead of a bow, I really enjoy dual axes. It's not bad at all. That said, throw a dagger in the off-hand and it's even cooler.

No way in hell that they do this

No way in hell that they do this

I get that. Believe me, I know it's not going to happen.
I'm just annoyed it's not going to happen.

Oh well. Plenty of other good professions.

love the Whirling Defense skill ( the ones that blocks range attacks and send them back )

That's the best part of the dual axe combo. I just really enjoy the dagger in the off-hand. An extra evasion and a good cripple. Tons of movement.

Eh, as long as they help pets out Ranger is going to be fantastic. I loved playing in melee because it's so mobile. Going melee and bow secondary felt great to me. GS and sword/dagger was a ton of fun too. Sword/torch was great too.

I'm not sure if it's a bug or not, but across both BWE1 and BWE2 pets could be swapped out at death, and then switched back out to auto revive. If you swap them just before one dies the one put away will be at full health when you swap him back, which is generally what I did when playing my ranger.

They still die way too fast of course and need a ton of help. I don't see why they don't have some sort of dodge mechanic like players do, to be honest. They need to fix the AI so that it does things like attack targets from behind and dodge out of AOE in addition to making them able to take hits a little better.

If the pets were to become competent, then yes, I would have no problem with rolling a Ranger. I quite enjoy the profession otherwise. Here's hoping they accomplish what no other MMO up to this point has done to my satisfaction.

yes, but dual axes gives you an axe in the off-hand, not a dagger. Axe>dagger

....

I'm guessing you just dig axes, right?

Which of the EOTN tracks are you nearest to completing? EV, Norn, Asura?

Pretty much rank 2 or 3 for all of them. I haven't put too much effort into them as my main goal at the time was to just get through all of the missions and complete the campaign. Do they take very long? I'm using a SoS Ritualist if that matters at all.

"You misunderstand. I need gold, that's why I'm trying to sell my stuff."

No, I don't misunderstand, I'm saying sell your ecto to the rare mat trader. For gold.

uuugh I just need money, I need my things to sell. Someone sell my Ecto for me!

I tried for 3 hours and nothing!

I just sold ecto at 14 per 100k to get my last few weapons for the HoM.

I'm sitting on just 12 ecto now that I might just give away to the next person who draws something specific in MS Paint or something. Not sure yet.

Fill up Hero's Handbooks till rank 8 for whatever one is furthest along and then HM book for 8-10.
A very efficient way to get from Rank 1-8 and 8-10, in any title track, is to have the number of books you need in your inventory (4 for NM and 2 or 3 HM (see below)) and move the empty ones to the lead in order to fill them. Then run each mission again and again until each book has the completed mission. Finally, turn in all of completed books for each title track. In total you will need to fill 16 in normal mode and 10 in hard mode for all 4 titles to Max (see below). This also makes a net profit of 120,000 gold plus drops. This takes into account rewards for completing the quests once each on both normal and hard mode, however repeat rewards, sidequests, and bounties have been omitted for simplicity.
It is more efficient to get to rank 8 before vanquishing Eye of the North areas. After all of the faction-specific areas are vanquished, turn to hard mode books to max it.

Omg I didn't know you could do that! 7k ecto is just what I was trying to do.

Bwahahaha good bye game... although I still need to finish one more title.

Bwahaha you should have all prepared months ago when there was far less demand. :P

If you need cash though and don't have ectos, running the dungeon with all the worms is actually very profitable, especially if you bring the skill that lets you reveal chests.

Damn, I had no idea so many beta keys have been going around. Just between Curse and Alienware, they've handed out 60k keys and 10-20k from geforce.com. Then combine all of the fan sites who handed out 1, 5, 10, 50, 500, etc plus people who bought since BWE2 and damn BWE3 is gonna be packed. I do have to wonder if they knew they were going to be throwing keys out in their last BWE so they just doubled their servers in BWE2 to get more time to test it rather than wait until they had 100k+ random people trying it out?

Found this WvWvW guide on mmo-champion

I found it quite informative. I havent played WvW yet, but just from the little info i gathered on it, it seemed rather daunting and a bit intimidating to me. That thread definitely helped clear some things up and pointed out some useful strategies

Question though, when you purchase upgrades from the quartermaster, do you use your own gold or some special gold your whole side gains while doing WvW. If is your own gold, i dont think ill be doing a whole lot of upgrading...

Hitting the supply dude and taking out supply camps definitely seems like the most fun thing to do though

Think ill be rolling norns for the BWE so i can avoid the massive amount of people. Its probably going to be crazy in the slyvari/asura, and probably even human early leveling zones

It's your own gold and honestly you're only thinking it costs a lot because you just started and have no money. You'll quickly get to a point where you can throw money around in WvW and also get some back through capturing or defending points.

A lot of those points are somewhat basic knowledge that you stay together and defend what you own. I think they should of added gathering resources to sell and use the gold to upgrade or buy blueprints.

They had talked about balancing as a whole and that included the economy so I dunno if they've done the balancing pass on that for BWE2 or if they already did for BWE3 and that might help with the initial WvW costs. I do know that BWE2 WvW costs were lower than BWE1.
