Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

I really dont get why people simply dont try out GoM, and if they dont like it after 1-2 weeks, transfer to a more populated server.

You can transfer for free in the first two weeks, or something like that. That way, youll get to see if you actually like GoT, and if you dont, you can scope out the best WvW servers without having to guess at launch

I think that might be my plan actually. I figure if the server is crap it really won't affect me too much pre80.

Also I want a confirmation... can transfer the looks of casual gear to armor?

Didn't know that. Did Anet confirm ?

Anyway, seems you can buy gems in BWE3.
Anyone think they'll have a beta only special sale on gems, or buy 1 get 2 at launch type of thing ?

hmm, maybe not. been checking around and havent found anything

Not sure what you mean by the second question, but as to your first, if you really dont care too much about what server you are on pre80. GoM still might be a good choice if there is no 2 week free server transfer considering that you can buy a transfer with 1800 gems. By 80, Id imagine that you could afford that with in-game gold (complete guess)

You mean town clothing? Not as of BWE2 you couldn't.

Yes, I recall something about the first two weeks as well, but I cannot find any confirmation of it. Perhaps it was just speculation by one of the many bloggers / websites. But yes, 1800 gems seems reasonable.

What's the exchange rate for 1800 gems to $?

So... Not following this thread too closely between BWE's, what's new for BWE3 apart from Asura and Sylvari? And character-wipe? Tell me everything! Please? :p

- Asura & Sylvari starting zones
- The shared Asura/Sylvari 17-20 zone
- The Grove
- Rata Sum
- Keg Brawl minigame (think Rugby)
- New sPvP map
- New solo WvW objective called Sentries
- You can buy gems for real and they'll transfer over once the game launches.
- In-game clock added
- Item previewer for seeing gear before equipping
- Camera zoom distance seems to have been moved back a bit
- Vistas which are a new map completion element where there's mini jumping puzzles that you have to complete to get to this scroll and when you click on it you'll see a cutscene that shows off the area and gives you XP.

That's all that we know of, optimization and balancing are a given.

I'm so excited for the little things they added.

Vistas and Keg Brawl sound like a fun way to pass time! + the armor sets that were posted in the last page were pretty cool, they put so much detail into it!

Think I'll leave the Sylvari and Asura creation until the last dozen hours of the beta, though everything is going to be packed to the brim from the get-go.

I didn't think I would like the looks of the Sylvari but after watching the character creation I may make a Sylvari ranger. I still do not know what I will main because I haven't tried many of the other classes so hopefully this bwe I will try out some of the other classes like engineer and guradian.

Okay. All its shortcoming aside, reading the Ghosts of Ascalon novel has helped me appreciate the Norn a bit more. They're like some deranged combination of Vikings and the Tick. In fact, I kept imagining Patrick Warburton every time Gullik spoke and it took what would have been ridiculously inept dialogue and made it golden.

So yeah, running animations be damned, I'm actually looking forward to making one now.

Yea, Im fairly positive that I am going to go with engineer, but I also want to try out Guardian, Ranger, and Mesmer

Slyvari definitely look cool, and I will eventually make one, but I have a feeling that everyone and there mother will be rolling sylvari (i wanna be unique, damn it!)

can't have them running like ninjas now can we?

Did any beta users here have any luck running the game on a Mac under Wine? I'm interested in getting GW2, but I don't feel like farting around with it if the compatibility is bad.

... Assassin's Creed? Anyone?

Item previewer is neat, game already ran smoothly for me last time so this is gonna be fun :D Wanna try a different class, same race this time.. Don't wanna spoiler myself too much with all the zones :x

All it took for me was to run around Hoelbrak and the surroundings a few times to go "yep, Norn all the way."

I don't like their running animation. I think of them as big humans. They seemed pretty cliche to me. Not a big fan of Hoelbrak.

But now that I imagine them as Viking-Tick people similar to Patrick Warburton? Now they're hilarious and it makes up for all of that other stuff.

Guild Wars 2 twitter account tweet mentions a character wipe before the upcoming BWE, so I guess won't be able to try out the Ascalon Catacombs until release. :(

I played a bit of last BWE on OS X using Wine.

Performance was pretty poor, but that might have been the older machine + Geforce 9400 rather than Wine. The game itself looked fantastic - aside from one weather effect that didn't render correctly, the game looked just as great as on my Windows box.

I'd suggest trying to pick up a beta key this weekend and see how well it runs for you.

Oh yeah one more thing

/dance is in as well.

Bingo. Megaton, right there. And I thought this couldn't get any better.

You know...

It's...

I mean, at least it's something I should be able to do during the BWE before time runs out, as opposed to the myriad of other crap they've included this time around.

Gah, after watching a few of those Sylvari videos posted a couple of pages back, I'm so conflicted. I was completely set on making most of my characters, including my main, Asura, but ArenaNet has really blown me away with the amount of Sylvari customization. Guess I'll just have to wait till Friday to really mess around with the character creator.

Super happy to see an Item Previewer in, as well as all the little things like Keg Brawl to just pass the time.

That's the first thing I thought of as well hah.

Ah, yeah. I'm running on a low-end 2012 Macbook Pro, so we'll see how it goes I guess.

In regards to the upcoming BWE, would you be able to direct me to where I can sign up for a key? Google is doing me no good!

hey guys, i did it. i bought GW2 and downloading the client now

:D

Just talked to a guy and he had said this in regards to Transmutations stones:

I did not see it, but BWE2 forums had a dev response regarding transmog stones.

BWE1 had transmog stones on karma vendors, but they had different ranks, like the cheaper ones would only transmog 1-20 gear, the next rank would do 20-40 gear, etc. For BWE2 they were taken off the karma vendors and this is what the forum thread was about. The dev response stated that the transmog stones were removed temporarily for a revamp in design, but that they would be back for launch.

I have no idea if they will be in for BWE3, however. I wish I could give a source link or a screenshot, but I can't.

I spent a lot of time looking at the dev tracker before the forums were closed for all the events.

I knew they were revamping them, but I'm glad to see them back for launch cause I spent a fair amount of my free gems on Tstones.

Oh, one more thing, let me get a screen:

Even though datamining has already confirmed Polymock would be in, it's nice to get confirmation from an in-game source. For those who don't know what Polymock is, it's like Pokemon that will use your actual Minipets for battle. You'll throw down these battle arenas (pokeballs) and fight it out. Now before anyone starts yelling that ANet stole this idea from Blizzard, do know that ANet has had Polymock since 2007. It was actually Colin Johanson's pet project for EOTN.

That's what that little arena is meant for in Lion's Arch, right?

@GuildWars2 So if I purchase say 2000 gems during the BWE and use those gems during the BWE, I'll get those 2000 gems back at launch?

@GuildWars2

@ian_thornton Correct. ~RB2 ‪#GW2‬

Good to get confirmation on that, was wondering it myself.

Could be yeah.

do we know how deep polymock will be, like have they said what is new this time around?

They said they were revamping it a lot but we don't know anything beyond that I'm afraid. I get the impression that we might actually become our minipets and duke it out in PvP style combat with GW2's combat system. Drool.
