Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Despite the beta being a few days away, and having zero interest in it this time last week, I now need a withdrawal fix.

Norn all the way. Running through those lands at 4am in the morning with that music playing was incredibly calming.

As a guild one thing GAF should do is go to the jumping puzzle in WvWvW and protect it from anyone who dares enter. Have GAF members at each trap.

No digital download for Amazon is kind of lame since I have $50 in credit there. It should be available for release, right?
Hmm. Amazon is still giving out preorder codes, right? Shouldn't be an issue getting the code, using it, then putting in your retail code within three days of release.

You'll get all the bonuses prepurchasing and won't miss out on any play time.

I spent the end of the last stress test in the wvwvw jumping puzzle dungeon. I kept killing these people from Borliss Pass. Out of the blue, one of them sends me a party invite and I'm like wtf. So I accept it and then I can see their real names and real levels. The guy who invited me asked "WHY ARE YOU KILLING US" and I'm like.. its wvwvw.

I agreed to stop killing them, but I had pissed off his Ele buddy so bad she still went after me.

It's sort of weird that you can invite hostile players to your party inside the dungeon.

Wow, really? That seems like a bug or slight oversight. I'd guess it was a bug that slipped through since they probably only had a month or so of work done on that.

Oh boy if that's possible this might lead to some awesome "dueling grounds" off track of the general areas (or, if I would want to be negative, to some serious PVP level grind cheating).

Not entirely sure if I want to play Engineer or stupid-riverdance-looks-dumb-with-greatsword-poophead-should've-been-paragons-announced-instead at release.

They say "Yes sir" after he tells them something.
They
say
"Yes sir".
*faceplam*

Yeah Team Legacy are quite serious. But it's a good thing and makes their PvP co-ordination superb. They've managed to recruit a ton of people for their different "divisions" after having a huge success in the BWEs!

It's still ridiculous.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was a bug or not. I didn't report it. I will probably test it on the weekend.

So much new info to sift through.

Not really excited about Keg Brawl. Makes me think of FFXI Ballista or SWTOR Hutball. Neither of which were very fond memories.

Loving the vistas.

Loving solo WvW Sentries. Although it makes me wonder how much they actually contribute to WvW in the overall picture....what if groups just steamroll the Sentries? Maybe those also scale like DE's, with how many people are within a certain range?. Great idea, I just hope it's implemented correctly.

I'm not a sPvP enthusiast. Had my fill of instanced PvP in Warhammer and Rift. Only reason to do it for me, is looks on gear.

In game clock? HELL YES!!! I know, sad. But seriously it's one of my top needed/wanted things in any games UI.

Really can't wait to see the optimization. Especially since I'll be playing over the weekend on my 5 year old laptop.

Is sPvP gear transmutable?

It's still ridiculous.

Just watched the first two minutes to see what you are talking about. I only heard it once and I am pretty sure that wasn't meant to be serious.

Although you absolutely need someone taking charge of coordination by calling targets or deciding when to retreat or attack, people just love to make fun of it like that.

For HoM - Say I'm completely new to GW1 and I just want the Diamond Aegis (11/50), I only have, at most, 2 hours to play the game a day (and not all days). Would it be doable to get that far before release?

Also, does anyone know if there's a way to associate an already created GW2 account with a new GW1 account? Obviously if this doesn't work, it's not even worth my time at all since I already pre-purchased and made my GW2 account.

Totally. You can get to 11 just beating one main campaign and doing some stuff in EOTN. Based on my experience trying to get to 11 (specifically for that purpose, actually, I also wanted a Diamond Aegis and nothing else), I'd say beat Factions.

I can't say for sure, but I'd imagine if your GW1 is registered to the same ncsoft account it should be all good.

Ah, yeah. I'm running on a low-end 2012 Macbook Pro, so we'll see how it goes I guess.

In regards to the upcoming BWE, would you be able to direct me to where I can sign up for a key? Google is doing me no good!

Keep an eye on @GuildWars2. They've been posting links to key giveaways, and doing trivia contests for keys. I'd expect at least a few more in the next couple of days.

So stoked to finally play this weekend. Been on as much of a blackout as I could manage for probably a year now.

Probably playing Charr or Silvari at launch. The brilliance of the Silvari design makes up for the Asura looking like something someone from Lucasarts doodled on a napkin after playing Psychonauts.

Probably to make sure the servers can handle the initial rush at launch.
Exactly. Last BWE. With all the keys they've been handing out, it's definitely to simulate launch - testing the servers, the DEs, scaling, etc.

Honestly, the sheer insanity I'm expecting around the Asura and Sylvari is the primary reason I probably won't roll one of either this BWE.

The lack of the traditional trinity makes it hard for me to pick a class. Usually i just pick whatever class is the most healing focussed, because thats how i roll in online games, but now i have to actually decide for myself. :lol

I know right? Suddenly all classes are attractive. It's awesome.

You want a rare mini?

Although you would need to finish your main campaign, and then the EotN campaign, before getting points. The campaigns can take quite a while.

Yeah, I'm gonna be a Norn, no doubt!

Norn does nothing for me. Mostly because it's a little too Skyrimey for me, and I really don't like neanderthalic voice acting. I'll play a human or Charr during the beta weekend, and during release I'll do an Asura most likely.

I'm going to be a human elementalist too.

Just watched the sylvari character creation... why do they get a ponytail too? And boy do they look leafy. Not sure if I want to pick them, but if I can get a good one...

Asura Thief, all day every day
Sylvari Mesmer
Asura Elementalist
Asura Necromancer
Sylvari... or maybe Human... Engineer... or... Guardian... or yeah I have no idea

I really do love Hoelbrak, and there were some amazing dynamic events of there (the dude summoning the ice dragon making all the AOE blizzards really stands out). I really, REALLY want to take my Asura Thief from Rata Sum to every race's starting area on foot, as sort of a goodwill ambassador. I wish all the connecting areas were included in this BWE so I could try a fifth of the journey or so.

I think I will only be making Homan, Norn and Sylvari characters because they still look humanoid. I find it hard to relate to Charr or Asura.

Also charr were the enemy last time and I still don't trust them and the Asura are just ugly rats. The Asura way of putting all the other races down when it comes to their intellect gets tiring fast.

Let's get a head count (for fun), guys.

Human elementalist master race/profession reporting in.

Asura thief (main character)

Sylvari elementalist (alt)

both female because I've been playing female-only characters in my RPG for the last 10 or so years

Main: Male Charr Guardian (probably)

Alt: Female Human Ranger

I decided I'm going to level up two professions at a time. I'm still a little undecided on the Guardian. I need to look at what ANet did for them in terms of long ranged attacks.

I do need to decide on all my profession/race combos for launch though. I'm going to be buying three more character slots to get every profession made. Gotta start that timer for the inevitable birthday presents.

Any theories as to why they're wiping characters before the BWE?

Because a beta and official releases are not the same thing. The whole point of the wipe is that it creates a clean slate for everyone when the game officially launches rather than having characters that transfer over from months ago.

I hope to team up with a GAF bro this weekend to test out name reservation systems, specifically:

- Like the current system in use with Guild Wars 1, is there a 24 hour period upon a user deleting a name where no one else besides that user that steal that name?

This will affect the way I poach certain names on August 25th - either by quickly cycling through character customization to get to the name creation part 5 times in a row, or will I have to worry about screenshotting my sliders in BWE3 to make sure I get them represented closely and in fast succession during the head start while working to claim 5 names as fast as possible.

I think he means why are they wiping for BWE3 and the answer to that is this is their last chance to stimulate a launch before release so making sure everyone rerolls is the easiest way to accomplish that.

From what I've read, yeah that's what will happen.

Warrior here. Not sure what race, probably Sylvari to check it out as I've always loved the "elvish" takes that developers have in MMO's.

I was really contemplating whether I'd be ranged and then I thought, if Warrior sucks I'll just use an alt or switch mains ... but melee is where my heart lies and it's what I'm best at competitively.

Ah, I misunderstood. My apologies.

Yeah, there's plenty of times when people say "yes sir" casually in response to someone and not as a way of showing obedience/respect to someone.

Yeah, I don't know what the big deal is. Me and my friends say it a lot... in English, even though we're Spanish. /shrug

As a guild one thing GAF should do is go to the jumping puzzle in WvWvW and protect it from anyone who dares enter. Have GAF members at each trap.

That would be awesome! When do we do this?

:D
Just talked to a guy and he had said this in regards to Transmutations stones:
I knew they were revamping them, but I'm glad to see them back for launch cause I spent a fair amount of my free gems on Tstones.

You mean the change to make Trasmutation Stones shop-only wasn't permanent?! I totally assumed they would make them only buyable with gems, since they're a very desirable item which technically only has aesthetic functionality. This is amazing news, as aside from character and bank slots, this is the only thing I expected to invest gems in (and the only consumable, non-permanent thing).

Oh, one more thing, let me get a screen:

Even though datamining has already confirmed Polymock would be in, it's nice to get confirmation from an in-game source. For those who don't know what Polymock is, it's like Pokemon that will use your actual Minipets for battle. You'll throw down these battle arenas (pokeballs) and fight it out. Now before anyone starts yelling that ANet stole this idea from Blizzard, do know that ANet has had Polymock since 2007. It was actually Colin Johanson's pet project for EOTN.

I totally forgot about Polymock. I find it funny that one of the major bullet points in Pandaria is something lifted from GW2 that doesn't even register as a blip in most radars. Further, as nobody, including Blizzard, knows the details regarding how it's going to be in GW2, I'm betting Blizzard's implementation will be hilariously crude compared to GW2's original idea (whatever it is).

You know, at this point I just want for GW2 to release so that there'll be less ignorant people saying "WoW invented this or that". The times a friend of mine has told me "they added this in WoW" and I had to reply "that's been in GW2's beta for a couple of years" became so numerous at one point that I had to stop doing it or risk losing the friendship. :(
