Had to do a double take to see what thread I was in haha. Nit pick: River isn't technically a companion. But I like her a lot. My favorite is still Donna even though Karen Gillan is also awesome and pretty hot.

Its pretty fucking embarrassing when you get down to their education and ours (Canada's sucks too). We look like complete morons. I remember international students from Scotland and Wales coming for HOCKEY school (so they were 'dumb jocks') in Canada and being light years beyond the rest of the class in geography/geology. Plus most people in Europe ive met seem to think their english "sucks" and yet they can hold a conservation really well.
Huh I guess the guy who captured the video and uploaded it is german. And you've met some relatively well educated people by the way. Besides french, I'm only fluent in english and have basic skills in dutch (which I'm a bit ashamed of since more than half of my country speaks it, but I was a lazy fuck in High school and dropped the class after 2 years... and I don't really have the time to take classes on top of my studies now. Oh well maybe later). Most people I know only speak french and have basic to decent english and that's it.

Well you live in a country with two official languages that already gives you an advantage! maybe is an impression but americans (As in the whole continent, again, sucks having to clarify that) just don't care much for other languages which is just dumb. Many are actually against learning a different one! you can hear pride people on both sides with their " in this country we speak spanish/english, so don't talk in the other language!", being proud of ones language is such an useless thing, specially in this modern global world, Brasil is somewhat an exception but not by much.
On the other hand europeans are perfectly ok with it, I've met a finnish couple and swedish guy, when I told them how cool it must be to know such weird languages they simply claimed that it just made no sense, because they were pretty much useless, no one talks in those languages and the countries are tiny. They all knew english and german.

Sorry to hear, thats horrible. May I ask what kind of cancer? Depending on his situation I guess sadly chemo is his only option?

Also, I'm not sure if now is a good time to post this, but my boyfriend said he met someone on a forum who believes that homosexuality is a sin and yet at the same time, supports LGBT rights and gay marriage.
You gotta love the guy's reasoning for this though, he believes that it's a sin, yet at the same time he feels that other people and the government have no right to deny people things based on their gender or sexual identities.

Sorry to hear that. Is there a reason why he doesn't want to do chemo? If there's a chance a chemo can help him, he should really try it.
I've never understood the "it's a sin" argument. People sin every day (being angry, eating too much, cursing -- it's all a sin), it's in our nature. Unless you're some kind of saint you're in no position of using that argument.

it depends, going for a night out i tend to see gay couples hold hands since they won't get a lot of attention but in the day, i guess not since people do say stuff to your faces and it's just easier not too.
of course there's the people who don't give a fuck and will hold hands etc regardless.

Major cities are easier as there's more exposure. My partner and I will do it here and there when we feel like it, as we look like we could kick most homophobe's asses. Plus two biker types being close wigs the preconceptions of a lot of folks out so it's doubly fun!
But there are times when it doesn't feel exactly safe, which is sad as we're totally out everywhere in our lives.
I'm sorry for laughing (if this is true), but honestly: Does anyone believe Scott's posts anymore? They're completely mind-warping bonkers to where they can't be true.
That's actually pretty common. There are people on this forum with the very same viewpoint. But consolidating an antiquated belief system like Christianity with modern expectations and understanding is inevitably going to lead to quite a bit of mental gymnastics.
Harassment sucks. It's the idea that if you keep your head down you won't get any trouble. Hell, when I was at Pride I was yelled at just walking around with the ex. This was Toronto by Church which is the heart of the gay district. I imagine that it happens everywhere.
I give props to the guys who don't give a shit, but I'm certainly not one of them.
I don't know but I think there needs to be more a push for acceptance than general tolerance. You'll even see it in posters here where they "don't mind that gay stuff, they just don't want it shoved in their face." This essentially translates to "be invisible and we won't bother you." Maybe not what every one of them means, but it's the the general message that's given. And while times are certainly getting better, there's a lot of little things that can still get to you. Every time someone mentions how gross it is just reinforces the age old idea that its "unnatural and wrong." It's made pretty clear that your average heterosexual wants to hear little of your experiences which can feel a little alienating.
I don't know, I'm probably rambling at this point. But I'm reminded of a scene from Weekend where the one guy is sitting and listening to his co-worker describe his sexual exploits with his girlfriend and the other co-workers are listening attentively while the protagonist sits apart from them. I thought it was a really clever way of presenting that feeling of segregation whether it's self imposed or not.
I dunno, you would need to be a really horrible person to lie about things like cancer.

Wow yelled at Pride? I get the feeling that many immigrants are very openly homophobic, and I don't mean this as an affront to any immigrants, but this Canada, get used to it... and no idea if your heckler was white/black/whatever.
The whole "Oh I dont mind gays, just stay invisible and dont lemme see it" thing pisses me off to no end and ordinary people have no concept of how it feels. I also hate it when a bunch of ignorant straight folks discuss gay issues like they are experts; its demeaning and it makes me feel less than human. OH YES, please discuss how I FEEL/THINK and what MY AGENDA is
When im with my friends and we see homophobic things or messages written... I always joke that the straight purge is coming and that our master plan is coming to fruition soon, and they better get with the gay or else.

Edit - I'll just weigh in. Musicals aren't really my thing but I have enjoyed the odd one here and there. Sweeny Todd (film) and Evil Dead: The Musical (stage) are probably the best.
Why don't you like musicals? I can only speak for myself, but I like music and I like movies, so when the two are put together, I'm naturally going to enjoy it.

They're just not my thing. I'm not a big fan of singing in the first place. I'm more rhythm oriented when it comes to listening, so I'm more into jazz, funk, soul and hip hop.
I have no problem with people who love musicals though. One thing I really can't stand is indie rock. A lot of gay people seem to be into that too. That music makes me cringe.

It depends what city you're in. I live between Ghent and Antwerp and the difference is big. Ghent is way more alternative which is the main reason I prefer Antwerp.
One guy I talked to mentioned Florence and the Machine. Other than that I never liked Arcade Fire, The National, Radiohead, etc. That's all I can think of, I've had friends who often put on indie rock indie, but I really couldn't bother to find out names of bands.

I live in Rio de Janeiro and is honestly gay paradise, discrimination is there of course, its still a catholic country, but I've never seen so many people open in normal situations and places like parks, beaches, malls as it is here. Unfortunately I lost my job recently, and what kills me the most is having to leave this city. I never really took advantage of it which is worse.
A mistery to me too, I hate musicals with passion, the closest I come to like them is Disney movies, and even then I'm sure I would enjoy them more if they didn't have singing.
Metalhead here! I like almost any subgenre but black metal is pretty much my favorite.

High School Musical 1, 2 and 3 (DON'T MOCK ME, I know they're cheese-tastic but their fun!), Hairspray, Mamma Mia and Chicago are my favorites though I've only seen the movies. I recently watched The Sound of Music (movie) and absolutely loved it. I also went to see Blood Brothers twice in London because the lovely Melanie C played the main role
She's starring the Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Tour that they're doing in September, I really wish I could go and see her and also because I've never seen that play/movie

Indie rock is a deal breaker already. Same for Eurovision. People who have to listen to their music at loud volumes as well. I'm not risking my hearing for anything, it's my most valuable possession.
I am in the search, theres lots of demand for programmers but so far the propositions I've received have low salaries, and this city is awfully expensive.
I'm trying to be optimistic, maybe things will turn out for the best.
