It's impossible to chill on the net without TDKR gifs or pictures or trailers; I've been on a media blackout since it was announced, and this is getting fucking tough..

hopefully all reviews will be rotten from now on. i will certainly enjoy the movie and the lower my expectations are the more i will like it. TDK came out way after the US release and i have read dozens of pages on gaf praising it as the best movie ever and a certain oscar lock that by the time i came around seeing it i thought it was mediocre at best.

also it would be kind of funny if avengers beat TDKR at RT and the BO.

It's interesting that the film is at 84% on RottenTomatoes, yet the average score is still at 8.8/10. Usually the percentage is higher than the average score for the majority of films, at least from what I've seen in the past.

Just noticed that Batman Begins is 61% (Top Critics)... woah

I think it's quite fascinating to follow the development of this trilogy. People were mad indifferent to Begins when it came out. It had relatively decent reviews, but it wasn't being widely considered as a great comic book movie. Begins didn't rake in too much money either, but enough to justify a sequel.

The transition to TDK shows how a good marketing strategy and a memorable character can really change the game.

To be honest it would not surprise me. As much as Whedon is loved on GAF and in other geek circles, he really isn't that well known in the larger movie going public. I saw an article a few months back that said Avengers may very well be the summer winner simply because it skewed to a much wider demographic and was the result of years of build-up thanks to the origin films.

People know Nolan's style from over a decade of his films being in the cinemas and they know if they are going to see this or not. There will be no Heath Ledger's Joker in this and that is what carried such huge word of mouth last time and generated such huge ticket sales. While Bane will most likely be a great enemy he simply will not be TDK's Joker. TDK was a film you could go into if you've never seen a Batman movie and love it, apparently with TDKR I've seen a number of reviews saying rewatching Begins will help you understand the story a bit better and I know many who won't rewatch Begins and I'll have to be the one answering questions for them. They will take that and advise their friends, who may not own Begins, and they could very well brush it off until they "have time" which means they'll most likely end up renting it and never making it to the theaters.

so if it ends up a 91 compared to 94 for tdk, does 3 points less means you'll enjoy the movie less? feels like I stepped into gaming-gaf.

this is not going to score more than TDK, the hype for that one was insane specially with all pre-release events concerning the movie.

Look, listen. I know why we choose to have our little...group therapy sessions in broad daylight. But let's not blow this out of proportion.

Not officially allowed to say anything until tomorrow after the UK premiere, so will get to writing a spoiler review. But I loved it. Unabashedly, furiously loved it. Having seen it only once of course and having just come out, it's very fresh so am going to leave it a while before properly deciding where it ranks.

But for now, ahead of TDK and on par with BB. Takes the spectacle of the former and marries it with the character work of the latter.

GAF reviews are best reviews.

Glad to hear that, as someone who preferred BB this is good news.

Yah, this sure is a mixed reception with a tomato-meter in the 80s (will be 88 once they finish updating the reviews), and an average score of 8.8 (higher than all the LOTR movies and Nolan's past two Bat-flicks).

So less people like it so far, but the people who like it seem to like it more? There's still a long way to go anyway.

I wouldn't even say less people like it. It's too early to really say that. For example, there are people on the tomato-meter like the WSJ critic who didn't enjoy the previous films but actually liked this one. There aren't really any trends yet. It could end up at a 95 or a 70 at this point.

It just so happened that a few rotten reviews got posted at once which bombed the meter. It'll go back up (not that it changes the film we all get to see on Friday either way).

It's pretty clear that Andrew Urban, Christy Lemire, Devin Faraci, and Louise Keller are complete hacks. I'll trust a Scullibundo review before I trust those Philistines.

Think I will still enjoy it after spoilerfest 2? :(

They're the usual suspects for me. Faraci didn't like Spider-man, okay whatever. But he didn't like Spider-man or Batman? Maybe a bit of an agenda there? Naw, couldn't be.

this thread is now the ot's equivalent of people in the gaming forum getting upset over low scores for a game they haven't even played yet.

The only thing that bothers me about some of the rotten reviews so far is that they don't really say what they didn't like about the movie. They say something that kind of sounds "intellectual" and that's it.
