The only thing I'm worried about is how effective Bane is going to be as a "Final" villain. Part of me will still be bitter about that villain choice other than....well you know. :(

I don't really think he's the "final" villain. Feels like he's a small part of a bigger whole as I definitely expect Ras to make some sort of return. I also can't imagine a better villain (other than Bane) that would work. I was thinking Freeze but I can't see there being much finality to that for some reason.

Not officially allowed to say anything until tomorrow after the UK premiere, so will get to writing a spoiler review. But I loved it. Unabashedly, furiously loved it. Having seen it only once of course and having just come out, it's very fresh so am going to leave it a while before properly deciding where it ranks.

But for now, ahead of TDK and on par with BB. Takes the spectacle of the former and marries it with the character work of the latter.

My IMAX (real imax dome not digital) tickets only cost me 12 bucks a pop, although I am driving almost 2hrs to the theater O.O

You didn't cry when Maggie Gyllenhaal got blown up? Crazy

If you want the honest truth, I was falling asleep. The chase scene through the city was boring and uneventful to me, just not very exciting action to me, and by that point I was so annoyed by New Rachel that the entire momentum of the Joker scene when you find out that they're both in danger and yadda yadda, I wasn't concerned about Harvey because he wasn't Two-Face yet and I didn't care a bit about Rachel.

It's weird, as well made TDK is, a lot of it just wasn't that compelling to me. Certainly some of it was, but not everything, especially concerning Rachel. If anything TDKR will be better than TDK for me because it doesn't look like I have much to worry about in that regard. All the new characters look great.

I was joking. Still loved TDK though.

I don't know if it's BatGAF, but I do have a feeling GAF in general will treat this like UC3.

Just like Uncharted 2, there's a huge amount of people who jumped on Nolan Batman with TDK. That's going to be the standard for them, and a deviation from that in pacing or tone, or any perceived weakness is probably going to be overemphasized and criticized.

This reminds me of a post I once made in that infamous review thread:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=32102119&postcount=3259

Uncharted 2 benefited from the "refined sequel" syndrome. The first game did most the heavy lifting, leaving the sequel with a lot of room to perfect its formula and push its limits both creatively and technically.

Arkham City is currently benefiting from the same thing. Bioshock Infinite will likely be the next example.

Uncharted 3, on the other hand, has little room to grow technically..it has to rely on its script in order to deliver an experience that is simply more enjoyable, even if it's technically very similar. Lower scores are almost entirely the norm in this stage of a franchises life, even if most still herald the entry as the franchise's best. Most recent example would be Gears 3..maybe Rock Band 3 (haven't checked this one myself). It probably has something to do with the initial impact. The post-game breathlessness, if you so please.

That Uncharted 3 is probably STILL going to hit 95 on the metacritic is a massive surprise for me. I expected lower scores..but I still expected most people to say this was the best one.

Things are funny that way. Popular trilogies tend to be that way throughout any medium (so long as the third installment actually turns out good), or any successor to a wildly successful movie/game/book/tv show..etc. It'll probably happen with The Dark Knight Rises, for example.

(Disclaimer: Hadn't played Uncharted 3 at that point, but I did find it generally on par with the other 2 games)

I found Rachel to be annoying, so I was never really attached to her character anyways. I always felt like she was on her high horse, despite being the least useful person in the movie.

Rachel was a good character, was just not in the best context. She is clearely a Nolan's experimentation for his futher movies.

:lol

Rachel annoyed me so I felt nothing. What did get to me was that scene with Wayne afterwards where he thought she was going to be with him and Alfred hiding the letter.

He comes back when Clayface turns into him, but Batman works out its not him because he has a full moustache

And then you can have the brilliant Blade 3 ending. Show the city mourning the death of their hero. Show inside the coffin where Bruce's body slowly melts into a shapeless pile of clay. Cut to Bruce and Alfred chilling on the beach somewhere.

Wilbury, has Nolan's action staging/directing improved any from TDK and Inception?

Just about the only thing that could disappoint me this round is bland action.

Rachel shouldn't have existed. Her character should have been Dent from the get go so they could have had a longer time to establish the trio fighting crime, and what happens to him would have felt more tragic since we would have had more time invested in him.

But, every super hero has to have the chick he wants to bang so bad he's willing to give away his secret identity.

The hand to hand action is great. Bane/Bats showoff is maybe my favourite scene of the film, and a lot of that is due to the fact you can see everything.

The action later on with Tumblers and Batwings is very good as well, better than the truck chase for me; but if you didn't like that then I dunno, I loved the truck chase. It is more well done though, there's higher stakes behind it. There's more variety between action scenes, which sounds odd considering there's a) fists or b) vehicular. But yeah, I'd say it's better directed than TDK for sure.

Inception I think, the hallway fight was just magnificent, but the problem with the snow fortress is that despite a lot going on the camera was very static so there was no pace to it. But here there's a lot.

I take it that means the action scenes are clear and easy to make out this time around?

Mostly, yeah. Like I said, Bats and Bane fight is magnificent.

Well I scored tix to the IMAX Sunday 12PM show in Ft Lauderdale. Every other showing this weekend is sold out. HYPE!

Oddly, outside of Orlando, the Laudy IMAX is the only theater in South Florida displaying in the 15/70 film format.

Hardy's voice is awesome. Weird, and it'll lead to a lot of parody, but it's so different than growly aggressive gangster voice

Whew, missed the spoilers again.

Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if this one turns out to be a letdown. The trailers have been underwhelming and I still think Catwoman's costume looks like a bad joke.

Pros:

Cons:

I find the "too many characters" complaint odd. It comes down to how they're handled of course. But, we're down three major characters from the last movie (Rachel, Dent, and Joker). That with the extra 20 minutes this movie has means they should be able to work at least.

I'm curious how much Gordon we get. He seems pretty pushed to the background with all the promotional material focusing on Blake.

- Rachel
- Dent
- Joker

+ Blake
+ Kyle
+ Bane

Modine also gets a pretty decent amount of screentime.

The hallway scene in Inception was too short for me so I didn't really get into it. I like my action scenes lengthy, well staged/shot and exciting.

I'm assuming you mean Bale, although he did look pretty baked at the premiere last night.

No no, Christian Bake

The Dark Knight is a new cake he's making for a fundraiser, but he forgot to use self-raising flour, which Bane has stolen to make a ginormous cake, one which the world has never seen. He'll then rule Gotham from atop the cherry, until Batman stops him by pushing fuckloads of marzipan into his breathing tubes and taking back the flour.
