I don't agree with that review because I think all the main actors did a great job. It was the script that was the problem. The actors did the best they could with what they had.

I re-watched Begins last night. I catch parts of it on TV all the time, but this was the first time in a while (over a year, I think) where I watched the whole thing from beginning to end.

I actually didn't like it as much as I remembered. I still love it, but for the first time I felt how strange (not weak, but not incredibly strong either) the second half of the movie is: a complaint that a lot of people have levied against the film, but not something I ever felt until now.

I'll be watching TDK sometime today. I've always thought TDK was the better film just not as enjoyable as BB (for me), but I wonder if that will change now.

Yep. Though I liked TDK initially more. I think it will remain the same for me when I watch it tonight, but who knows?

I watched Begins today and couldn't get all those stupid quotes you guys keep reposting out of my head every time someone said ANYTHING.

Yes, the film is more plot-based than character-based.

But when you experience this plot and how Nolan delivers it, you won't mind a single bit.

The nerve-wracking tension of TDK is all there, but cranked up to 11. After the first "shit just got real" scene, it's full steam ahead.

I should say that everybody in the cinema seemed to love it. Lots of clapping at the end, but then this was a crowd where you had a few guys come dressed in full Bat gear.

Nolan does a great job but at its core the script still lets all that hard work down in the end.

Its still great and fun and at times amazing... Still, its flawed.

Considering the pressure on them to match TDK, I'm not surprised that this one may be a bit disappointing. But that's okay with me. This film doesn't need to be the best of the series, it just needs to be a satisfying conclusion to the series. I'm still confident it will be worthy of my excitement, especially since I still enjoyed Prometheus despite all of its glaring flaws.

So one friend has an emergency and now I have one extra ticket for the trilogy showing at the Burbank AMC (not IMAX) for anyone who wants it. SoCal-GAF?

The movie is good, not great. I felt it was several notches below both TDK and BB. Ultimately, the script is what lets the whole movie down. A lot of the character interactions feel very forced. There is a huge going through the motions vibe running throughout the film.

BB > TDK >>> TDKR

I don't think I'll be seeing it again at the movies, but I enjoyed it enough. Third film curse still holds strong, though.

This is what I thought after seeing all the trailers. A lot of glowing reviews seem to be a product of being overhyped coming off of an incredible sequel. I'll make up my own opinions in two days but this sounds in line with my expectations.

This is why I tend to remember Christimas Eve a lot more then the actual Christimas. The build-up to the big event, the speculation, the conversation with other people looking forward to it...it lasts so long, there's more to take away from it, and you have a hundred ideas in your head about what the actual event is.

Then the event happens, which is MUUUCH shorter then the actual anticipiation...and then it's over. December 26th comes along, you come down from the emotional high and you go along with your life. No matter what you think about the actual event, it's not new anymore, you've seen it, it will never have that same effect in your mind anymore. It's just another thing from your past.

That's how these events work. Build-up, Experience, Comedown. And the experience is always the shortest of the three.

I think some people went into this with a way overly inflated view of what this series is, its never had great dialogue and also had da touch of the comic book silliness to it. People are doing themselves and the film a disservice going in assuming its something its not.

did the movie feel overly long, bloated?

For me, there was a tiny sagging part about 2/3 in, when you're waiting for the finale to get going. Once that starts, you'll realise how all that was necessary to orchestrate the final set piece.

It didn't feel unnecessarily long. I think it had to be 2 hours 45 minutes to get everything in.

Sunhi, you're a freaking genius. And :lol at some of the meltdowns in this thread, esp at the bad reviews and at Sculli's impression. It's not the end of the world if the movie gets an 86% on rottentomatoes or if some critics don't like it. Begins got an 85% and it's still amazing. Just calm down people. Curb your hype. The bat-shit insane following that Nolan gets here is scary sometimes.
