Oh, I can't agree with that. That is also true. But as a child of the early 80s, I can definitely say without doubt that the general quality of Hollywood movies has gone down in the last decade and a half.
Anyone else living in NYC see this Hurricane right now? Sweet jesus.

What are we saying when we talk about technical quality? Because I think the special effects are more believable in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner than in Spielberg's latest Indiana Jones. Because I think the sound design on 2001 is more memorable and speaks louder than in any sci-fi flick that came out this year. Because I think the editing in Goodfellas is more expressive, more interesting than in any of Chris Nolan's movies. Because the cinematography in Days of Heaven, Tati's Playtime or Ozu's Tokyo Story is more accomplished and original than any Hollywood movie's cinematography that came out since the start of the year.Oh, I can't agree with that.
The degree of technical quality in cinematography, editing, audio, effects at the mean has improved DRAMATICALLY since the 80s. Again, that's at the mean.
If we want to talk about storytelling at the high end, that is a VERY different conversation.
You're talking about the high end. I'm talking about the mean - the average. What are we saying when wel talk about technical quality? Technical quality is nothing if you use it wrong. Avatar's got more technical effects on screen than any other movie done by Hollywood, and yet it looks like a turd.
Harsh. You're like the guy wearing hockey pads and Sunhi is Batman.![]()
Most average movies aren't worth watching, to me. But if we talk about sole entertainment values, I think, for instance, that Lethal Weapon is better than any cop comedy that's been done in the past 10 years. Same for BTTF for sci-fi comedies, or for Star Wars and epics. The big budget blockbusters are getting more and more boring to me.You're talking about the high end. I'm talking about the mean - the average.

I don't think so.Could just be a case of your tastes maturing

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A COMPARISON OF THE QUALITY OF EACH MOVIE.
So let's talk about, say, Trading Places. Love that movie - I think it still holds up to now. However, the editing and the audio (booming) is dreadful compared to even a shitty comedy in the last five years.
That's a gangbang waiting to happen

Black, Brown, White, Red. Basically, the color palette of the movie poster.

Hardy is staring straight into my soul.
Sasha Stone, who hates blockbusters even more than Wells, liked it: http://www.awardsdaily.com/blog/2012/07/18/theres-a-storm-coming/

JGL's ass?
JGL's ass.
All I've been able to figure is, if you've looked past any sort of plot issues in previous Batman films (joker's impossible planning skills, etc), accepted or are indifferent to Heath being the best ever, and come in ready to be engaged rather than expecting a third film wank, you're going to love the shit out of this. If do come in with those pretenses, you'll probably just like it and on some level agree that Catwoman was great, JGL was surprisingly good, and Bane had swag.I now have no idea what to expect from this film.
Meow.
Awesome
well, fuck doing another one. my mind's in knots now. I can't even remember what I did five minutes ago. forgot how to make gifs already!
Movie Info
From the critically-acclaimed writer and director of Crazy Heart comes a gripping and gritty dramatic thriller about fate, circumstance, and justice. Russell (Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Affleck) live in the economically-depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast - a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.
Does this mean TDKR isn't a superhero movie if Jeff Wells loves it? He HATES every single superhero movie ever made. All of them.
A storm is coming.
No literally it looks like shit outside.
Bale knows.

Haven't I been saying all along that Nolan makes a terrible Super Hero film? Its a good movie, but a terrible Super Hero movie.
Outside? What's that?

Well, I do have windows.
Did you do spoiler free impressions? I tend to agree with both you & Sculli's opinions on movies so it would be interesting to see were you and him differed.
