Do you use a headset while gaming?

If so, what kind? My TV's sound is really annoying me because it's not that great. Hardly any bass and I always have to turn it up really loud when I'm playing 360. Are gaming headsets really worth investing in?

i Ordered an Audio Technica: ATH-AD700 after hearing alot of recomendations about it on gaf. I haven't tested them out though to give any feedback. There was a thread about this a while ago that you can search for too

SteelSeries Siberia V2 USB headset. Comfortable, good audio, retractable mic, comes with its own external sound card. I use it for all my audio.

Seems to do an OK job at noise reduction, though I'm not sure if that was part of its design intent.

I play mostly PC games lately, but yeah, I pretty much ONLY use a headset when I game now. I love it. Sound systems are overrated.

I use:

Plantronics Gamecom 780

Absolutely love the sound quality.

I've got a Yamaha 5.1 system for when I play console games but when I'm on the Alienware I use a headset. I've got Turtle Beach X11s at the moment but I'm looking to upgrade.

Only when I'm playing on PC. I use Astro A40's. Super comfortable, even after long sessions, great mic quality and it blocks out sound pretty well.

I live in an apartment. Wouldn't enjoy gaming on my PC or my PS3 without headsets (well....wouldn't enjoy it as much).

On my PC I use a Logitech Jabra headset with mic (usb)

Don't feel like running to the living room to see what my PS3 headset is. It's a wired headset.

I've got the ATH-900... they're freaking amazing.

Headsets aren't generally recommended since they give subpar audio for the price, lump that in with questionable build quality and they are a real poor purchase.

A good pair of headphones give great audio quality, sound positioning, and overall sound stage which give a better gaming experience. Astro, turtle beaches, steel series, razer, etc all fall under this category.

Depending on your budget and what kind of music you listen to will affect what headphone you should get.

If you are looking for an overall gaming phone then check out the ad 700.

If you want a little more bass, check out the ultasonne 580, m50, or a700.

For budget look at grado, superlux, jvc, or Sony.

Welcome to the master race.

Just when playing portables in the couch, with the vita for example.

My current headset is the Sennheiser HD201, cheap and quite good.

I use these (Turtle Beach X41s)

They sound pretty good.

Also, yeah, gaming headsets really do make a big difference. I don't really use the word "immersive" often, but that's how I'd describe using a gaming headset. They make single player games more cinematic, and I absolutely believe they give you an edge in competitive multiplayer scenarios. You'll hear a lot more than you would with speakers. Definitely worth the price.

Normally no. I use DD 5.1 with my consoles that support it. My Wii just uses the TV speakers as it's hooked up to my OG Sony Wega as I think it gives it the best picture despite not being widescreen/proscan.

I have my PC hooked up to my amp as well and just run everything as DPLII. I could run optical but in the weirdness that can PC sound I can only get 2.0 PCM.

I do however use headphones with my 3ds a lot of the time. I basically solely beat OOT with headphones on. I use a pair of Grado SR-60s I've had for years.

I've been using a pair of Sennheizer HD 555 with a Zalman clip-on mic for a few years at least. Great pair of headphones despite having to mod them a bit and the mic just works like it's supposed to.

I used to game with Senn HD448s then Senn 595s
And now i use these for day to day:

I loved Headphones only because i had never really heard a good sound system.....IMO by the time a pair of headphones reaches the level of awesomeness any decent sound system pulls the headphone set is way out of my price range.

To put things into perspective HD598s are about $250 and to me they sound worse than my $170 SP2500s.

If your budget allows a good Sound System is a better investment.

That's completely opposite from the conventional wisdom I've always read about headphones. You'll usually get more bang for buck with headphones. My budget Sennheisers sound better than my Yamaha 5.1 speakers in everything except bass.

Is this a common setup or something? I use this exact same combination haha. Works out great but I had to use some ziplock ties otherwise the wiring would be ridiculously long.
