Headset or headphones ?

I have both, an old HyperX gaming headset and Bose QC35s. I'll use the HyperX one when I need a microphone for multiplayer, and the Bose ones when I want the noise cancelling to kick in. They're great on planes.

Was on Steele Series for a while, more recently decided to try the hyper x gaming headset. Love the battery life. Sound is...good enough for me. I'm no audiophile. Mic is not terrible as gaming headsets go, but I'm typically using my El gato wave 3 mic when I'm gaming.

Well by that I meant the one that's integrated in to your motherboard, but if you've got a really high end pair of headphones then you'd still benefit from a dedicated soundcard, even in the year or 2025.
TintoConCasera TintoConCasera if you want to go for a sound card then external DAC/Amp is the way to go imo. Less interference and can add a good look to your desk.

I use this with my PS5, no more big hot stuff on my ears.

GHG GHG gotta be honest. For all I care about graphics and having a comfy setup, I really don't care too much about audio, which is probably a mistake considering I really appreciate good sound design and music in videogames.

Might consider an external audio card, should be fun investigating that since I think I haven't had one of those since my first PC back in god knows when.

Headphones through DAC and amp. My Phliips X2HR's are like clouds on my head. They sound great and more importantly no lag.

I also have a wireless headset but I don't really use that on consoles. I did use headsets a while ago but I don't really play online anymore on consoles so I've kinda ditched them.

Got a headset for night gaming.

Will be using that Dolby tonight for death stranding 2.

no i use soundbar.not possible to use headset due to humid weather here

I have a headphone amp connected via TOS-link to my motherboard. I have a 3.5mm cable that I plug into my Sony WXM-1004 headphones when I am playing single player games. They're the most comfortable headphones I've ever had. I can wear them all day.

I also have an Acrtis 7 wireless headset that I use on my work laptop for all my Teams needs. When I play Fortnite with my son (my only multiplayer gaming), I move the USB dongle down to my gaming PC. It's a bit redundant, but it works. The headset is great for meetings, but the sound quality for media isn't as good as headphones.

I use a surround sound system. And if I'm using VC, it's only ever via Discord, which I use AirPods and my phone.

Either the 3D pulse or Arctis 7P+

During the day when I rarely get to play I will go without a headset but kids are asleep at night when I generally get time to play and am thankful for it, the sound on both those headsets is really good also.

I use the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headset. It's expensive but it's the best headset I've used. They're PS5 and PC compatible which is useful and I really like the software it comes with on PC. I'm loving the 'moments' aspect of the software which captures video of deaths and special moments in certain games.

Just some pulse headphones, pretty much only for the rare times I play helldivers. Otherwise it's the tv speakers 🤷‍♂️

Im still using the Hyper X Cloud Flight wireless headset I bought 2 years ago. They connect through a dongle to my PS5 and Pc. Sound quality is very good and the battery lasts about 3 days.

Still have the Hyper x cloud Alpha from 4 years ago, these things are built like tanks (pre-HP acquisition at least) and they're one of the most honest , good sounding (V shape) gaming headsets out there.

Tried the Steel series Arctis 5, they were OK but expensive for what they are and way too plasticky.

Now I have the Turtle beach Stealth 700 Gen3 and while they're just OK, the convenience of having both 2.4GHz AND BT at the same time is just too good, not having to take off the headset whenever I receive a call on my phone while gaming or when watching a video on YouTube is great and I don't think I could go back to a "normal" headset/headphones.
I said that the audio quality is just "OK" and not great 'cause there's some audible audio crackling whenever I crank up the lows/base via the EQ (or some base heavy profiles).

Headphones. Philips Fidelio X2HR, but I coupled it with a V-Moda BoomPro so maybe it counts as a gaming headset now?

Headphones I suppose.

Astro a40 TR wired with Mixamp. They're old but they've taken a beating at times and they still sound great. I was a Turtle Beach guy once upon a time, but they became popular and successful and when I went to replace an old pair that finally died, I was horrified to find how cheap the TB brand had become since becoming successful. I hope the same thing hasn't happened to Astro since I've had this pair. If I find that Astro has since shit the bed, I guess it's time for some Sennheiser's or something else of higher quality that I can get to work on a console.

Ive got Pulse 3D, Xbox wireless, X2HR (with v-moda) and HD 560s.

Depending on mood which one I will use - tend to lean towards the X2Hrs though the HD 560s are so clear.

-337g
-No simultaneous BT
-Only 40 hours of battery life (that's with RGB off)
- 200 Eurodollars

Nope
314g with microphone off and it still has hidden mic.
Fuck bt. I don't want it. Who cares. It's gaming and not taking phone calls.

40 hours is great. Reviews report 50 hours which is very long. Don't want longer because battery is heavy.

So half the weight of maxwells, sound as close to maxwells as possible, comfort. Cheaper than maxwells. What's not to like ?

Depends if I'm playing with friends or alone.

Alone: Surround with Atmos

"Alone" with wife - Hifiman Arya Stealth

With friends - Arctis 7X

Hey Rof 😚

Everything being compared to the Maxwells...I don't know man, it's gotta be one of the most over hyped and overrated products out there (no need to mention all of its problems right now) and I never take opinions for overhyped products seriously (don't mean you in this case) since it's just another case of "it's expensive therefore the beeest®" - just like when talking about chairs - everyone and their grandmas have learnt about Herman Miller and now parrot the same thing over and over again in online discussions when it comes to chairs and frankly, it has gotten comedic...

Back to the Fractal designs now :
Since we're talking about a gaming headset and NOT headphones, the fact that they cost 200 Eurodollars and have BT but NOT simultaneous, in the year of our lord 2025...yeah.
The fact of being able to receive calls, listen to voice msgs or just being able to watch a YT walkthrough while gaming without having to take the headset off every G'damn time is not only a commodity but actually a very, very useful QoL feature to have...
That 40-50hours battery life also isn't something to write home about since there are headsets at half/the same price which exceed that/are about the same.

Again, I'm saying all this 'cause we're talking about a GAMING headset brother where features should be king, why bother otherwise from the moment that we can grab whichever set of headphones for a lesser price with much better sound (generally speaking) ?

I could have stayed either with my Senns HD560s or Philips XH2R for that matter if I just wanted good sound, alas, they were wired and didn't obviously have all the nice, cool features that my mid TB Stealth 700 Gen3 have.

Personally, if I was again in the market for a wireless headset and didn't care about BT/any extra features, I'd just go for the Cloud Alpha wireless since A) they still sound good and B) can't beat that 200hours battery life 😉

Cheers

I have the Audeze Maxwells. Regardless of some attempting to downplay how good they are, they are the best I've owned and its not even close.
