CFA response to anti-gay alleg. "Guilty as charged." Do NOT gloat about eating at CFA

I think people should be free to boycott such a company, just as Chik-fil-A has the right to be open about their Christianity, and just as how others have the right to pick their battles (and choose to continue to eat there). But there's an uncomfortable amount of guilt-tripping in this thread.

You mean "open about their homophobia," surely. It's not Christianity per se that people object to.

Otherwise we'd be boycotting In N Out too.

Jesus Christ, come off it.

You aren't making some kind of brave moral stand by boycotting Chick-Fil-A. You aren't making life better for the homosexual community by not eating a chicken sandwich. You don't have to agree with everything a company represents because you use their product.

It goes both ways, looking at alot of the justifications used for continuing to support CFA. There's quite a few people that have insinuated that we were silly for boycotting them, or that our efforts were wasted, or even hypocritical.

I think the hypocritical remarks were largely in response to the initial guilt-tripping. Doesn't make them right, but that's what I observed.

I agree, but it's about as silly as being labeled a anti gay supporter because you choose to eat there.
I agree, throwing the bigot label is a bit harsh, but it still bugs me that people are okay with making that conscious decision for a chicken sandwhich. Delicious as they are.

Being called a horrible person cause you don't tip? Yep.
Again, it goes both ways. I've been called a horrible person for working below minimum wage, so yeah. But we are opening a whole 'nother can of worms.

Can't we just eat a chicken sandwich without the fear of being labeled an anti gay supporter? I was going to walk across the street and get a chicken sandwich today too. :(

At least they are honest.

But I do not see how some christians can say that marriage is a sacrament, while at the same time, being divorced, or allowing divorce to happen. Is marriage only a sacrament to non-straight people?

No doubt, and I'm not necessarily condoning those remarks either. I imagine it's frustrating for most gay-rights supporters to see people become somewhat flippant about the issue (for the sake of a sandwhich) and that's likely what led to the vitriol.

Your responsibility starts when you give money to corporations and don't care one wit what they do with it. If you're pro-gay marriage, giving money to chick fil-a is a complete contradiction. Deal with it.

This thread is... something else.

I also remember the girl serving at chickfilla was the hottest fast food attendant ever, a chick I would sure like to fill , aye. Are the employees all extremist Christians too ?

Haha... none that I know of. Most people that work there are normal folk.

I had two weeks in the US. Tried country chicken , Popeyes, kfc , Wendy's and chickfilla and Gotta say I thought the chickfilla was the best but I won't be going back if I'm ever back in the US.

I just realized I've been spelling Chick-Fil-A wrong this entire thread. (Chik-Fil-A)

Does that make me the best gay rights supporter?

This thread is... something else.

Hey, what good is being a better person than someone if you can't shove it down their throats? Am I right or am I right?

Hence their statement stressed that they're married to their first wives. But yeah, lots of hypocrites out there.

I doubt a boycott would do much to this corporation's business, but 50 years ago, this could have (and probably would have) been a corporation that is opposed to interracial marriage because of biblical reasons. Knowing what you know now and the world you live in today, would you have still given them your business and felt good about yourself back then?

Who gives a shit about racism when the chicken is so good, amirite?

This thread...Just wow.

This thread keeps getting better...

And better.

So some people are big enough fat-asses that they won't deny themselves a chicken sandwich to keep in line with their personal morals? Either that or they don't care for human rights enough to follow through on the smallest of actions.

This place has made it a point to have their views known. As an individual you should probably at least feel a little shitty for contributing to their backwards "family business".

What, you disagree?

Edit: Yea, I think it's a bit of a stretch.

With that being said, the only time I eat at Chick-Fil-A is when I go through the airport at 5 am and there's nothing else open. Since it's the only thing open and I'm starving, I'll get a breakfast sandwich there.

Do some of you guys really value a sandwich more than withholding support from someone who wants to deprive people of equal rights?

Yes. I don't agree with them but I'm not going to throw a tantrum over it they can believe whatever they want. I still watch Tom Cruise movies even though his "religion" is insane and I still love Mel Gibson's movies even though he hates jews. I'm not going to abandon everything in my life because the person behind it might have views that are deemed as weird or bad by society.

Calm down and have a sandwich.

Either that, or they don't think buying a sandwich is a huge deal. 'Cause, y'know, it's chicken. You're buying chicken. Supporting a place that sells food because you think their food tastes good.

Do you understand that the objection here is not simply that they hold bigoted views, but that they spend a lot of money on efforts to ensure their views are enacted into law?

You know that tons of companies donate to politicians or groups who want to pass objectionable things into law also right? Companies you most likely buy products or services from on a daily basis.

Stop talking this nonsense!

I hope people who are being judgmental over this research the political beliefs of every company they purchase from and investigate where their revenue goes to. Otherwise they may not be as morally cleansed as they try to come off as.

I don't agree with buying factory farmed chicken either, but that's another matter entirely.

I'm not saying it's a huge deal, but you should be aware of what you're indirectly supporting since Chik-fil-a has no problem making their ass-backwards views well known.

Sure. But the only ones I patronize are the ones seeking to stamp out Mormonism.

Yes and I still don't care. Most company heads probably believe in some bad shit whether it's social issues or economic stuff. It's not feasible or fun to live my life trying to figure out who to boycott today when I wake up each day.

I used to buy a decent amount of clothing/stuff from Urban Outfitters, until I found out that the guy in charge supported Prop 8 and donated a decent amount of money to anti-gay legislators. So now I don't shop there anymore. If I found out a place I went to didn't support gay rights, I'd stop going, simple as that.
