The Dark Knight Rises |OT| The Legend Ends (Warning: Unmarked Spoilers Within)

I guess you could say there is more action when action takes place but the large set pieces felt very weak. There is some great fisticuffs stuff going on, the best the series has had really but everything else around that fell flat for me.

So much Batman....was there from 6 until 3 in the morning.

Would you not agree that nothing here matches the car chase in TDK? Also, the Bane/Bats fights were great, but everything else (ie the broader scale stuff, the gunfights, the cops) was generic, poorly directed, had bland art direction, and just generally was unexciting.

The Dark Knight crashes:

Edit - damn, friend showed me this and led me to believe it happened to him, now I see it was from reddit, probably already posted...

Short version: good but very messy. I have a few severe issues with it, but it is still good overall. Definitely the weakest of the three.

But Bale was MUCH better in this than he was in Dark Knight.

Come to the spoiler thread to discuss if you saw it.

I like your opinions (ever since you recommended the flawless 'The Charlie Brown Christmas' to me)

Surprised because every review is praising Hathaway's performance.

I was actually wondering what all the fuss was about. She honestly wasnt that good. Wasnt bad though. JGL, Michael Caine, Hardy (the eyes), Oldman, and Bale were incredible though. The acting quality really went up with this one.

My impressions:
Not as good as the The Dark Knight - lots of pacing issues, super cheesy moments, and wait, what? leaps of logic, but still pretty enjoyable.

WTF. They should have used the comic con trailer.

Yep... music blew in this trailer, was that even 1 min and 7 seconds long? lol I do love the sound of Supes flying and so far it really does not look like a Snyder directed film at all.

Glad I saw even the crappy bootleg comic-con footage cause this teaser is awful compared to Returns... which means the movie will rock though! :P

Move discussion on that stuff to the other thread

I'd assume it's the role Hathaway had to play. She's really picky about these things. I can't explain.

But aside from comparing it to the previous movies, it was still a great one, right?

But the dialogue had me smh-ing every five minutes. Its like half the time the characters didn't actually dialogue, they just quipped

Was wondering, and either reply in the thread or through PM with a yes or no answer only:
Early reports said that the first teaser posters of the city crumbling to form the Batman logo was actually a clever hint to what actually happens in the ending, and wasn't just in the trailer for a cool effect. Confirm/deny. I don't want details.

Just got back.

Least favorite of the three, but the best conclusion the series could possibly have.

Also, I don't see how anyone could prefer Avengers to Rises, but to each his own.

wtf, to hell with Superman flying, the music was the best part of this trailer

I didn't like it. Everyone else is subtle. Hathaway sticks out like a sore thumb.

Her first scene is good at least.

The movie is sort of sloppy, a lot of jumping through time going on. It hits that epic scale, but at the expense of the tightness that marked the first two.

Still very good. The trilogy stands as the best three superhero movies yet made.

Not sure what was up with the sonic boom fart Man of Steel teaser.

This. I'd like to hear if he was convincingly menacing.

Menacing isnt really the word. He was a good methodical madman type. His intelligence countering his brute force was interesting. He showed more range later in the movie. But yeah he wasnt a huge focus.

You shut your fucking mouth.

I meant it blew in comparison to Zimmer's thin red line music from comic-con.

I own the LOTR scores, I love them... it doesn't fit with Superman even in a teaser imo.

Just got back in. Dug the hell out of it. TDK will always be my favorite of the Trilogy but this was at least on par in terms of overall enjoyment with Begins. Can't wait to see it in IMAX now.

Also thought the film placed waaaaay to much emphasis/time on JGL. Decent character, but generally just pretty bland. A major plot point surrounding his character is a pretty big copout imo, but in the end they almost made it work.

Okay, so basically everyone has a differing opinion on this movie. I consider that a very good thing. Im off work now so probably wont be on GAF much until after i've seen it tomorrow. Will be interesting to see what the GAF consensus is gonna be.

This marathon reminded me how damn good Begins was... Like, considering g the trilogy as a whole, it establishes the core themes and planted the seeds of character development that would grow all the way through. It has some goofy, clumsy dialogue compared to the goofy, self-serious dialogue of films 2+3, but its story is perfect.

Rises ends really well. If nothing else it will be remembered for that. Very satisfying conclusion, unexpected in a lot of ways (but not so much in others).

My thoughts exactly. Regarding the bolded, while BB and TDK both had these, they were almost always retrospective, things you realize don't make sense when you are thinking about the movie later. In the moment, however, you don't notice them, or they are overshadowed by how cool the thing that's happening is.

TDKR's leaps, however, jump right up and smack you in the face. There were several spots that had me going, "Wait, what?," some of them right after another (and one that I found borderline offensive,) and it sucked me right out of the movie.

Regarding Bane: I really, really liked him, but he just can't follow Ledger's Joker. He was a good villain who really give the impression of being a match for Batman, but he really doesn't have anywhere near the presence of the Joker. While he is threatening and he does have some moments, including one really good one
" Follow him", and the scene that preceded that line,
there is nothing as good or as memorable about him as...well, pretty much any of the Joker's scenes, and nothing as pants-shittingly terrifying as "Look at me. LOOK. AT. ME."

Yeah don't let gaf color your opinion- I didn't like it but the ppl I was with loved it.
