Also thought the film placed waaaaay to much emphasis/time on JGL. Decent character, but generally just pretty bland. A major plot point surrounding his character is a pretty big copout imo, but in the end they almost made it work.

Dude, get out of this thread please. Bring it to the spoiler thread.

This marathon reminded me how damn good Begins was... Like, considering g the trilogy as a whole, it establishes the core themes and planted the seeds of character development that would grow all the way through. It has some goofy, clumsy dialogue compared to the goofy, self-serious dialogue of films 2+3, but its story is perfect.

Yeah when I was in line for it I was talking to a few people saying how Begins is the best. Then after the second one ended they ran into me saying how Begins really is the best of the two. Second half is a little meh but it deals with Bruce a lot better then Dark Knight did.

My thoughts exactly. Regarding the bolded, while BB and TDK both had these, they were almost always retrospective, things you realize don't make sense when you are thinking about the movie later. In the moment, however, you don't notice them, or they are overshadowed by how cool the thing that's happening is.

TDKR's leaps, however, jump right up and smack you in the face. There were several spots that had me going, "Wait, what?," some of them right after another (and one that I found borderline offensive,) and it sucked me right out of the movie.

My sentiments EXACTLY.

You shut your fucking mouth.

awwww I hurt Sculli's feelings. Any way I love the Lord of the Rings scores. It blew for the trailer, it didn't help it at all... 30 second teaser or if it were longer.

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET I WOULD BAIL THE FUCK OUT NOW BECUASE YOU WILL GET SPOILED. IT IS INEVITABLE

People are already being lax about spoilers in their immediate impressions.

I'm out till I get back tomorrow. Luckily for me, I've got a wedding to go to in the morning and friends to hang out with before the movie starts. Woo!

that's not even Zimmer's work. I heard that in an awesome movie trailer before. It's from Sinoia Caves

Sweet, thanks dude.

Its just that some of the characters were really good and so it didnt feel like Bane was the spotlight. He is probably in a large portion minutes-wise.

Well that's a relief. As for who feels prominent, I guess I'll be able to judge that on my own.

I'll also be under the assumption that Bane isn't a typical villain with no real motive/ideal.

I need to see the full teaser, but I agree they could have chosen a better theme for the Superman teaser. So long as you're not saying the music itself sucks, only as a choice for Superman.

Oh theres some good story bits in there that give everything meaning. And i actually liked him as a Villain, its just he isnt "scary", just a badass who seems to have his shit together.

My big problem with the movie is probably the compression of time. There is one point where a certain character is doing something only he can do, but which seems like it would take a while, but six seconds after he starts he announces he is finished. Like all he had to do was think real hard and then it happened.

Regarding Bane: I really, really liked him, but he just can't follow Ledger's Joker. He was a good villain who really give the impression of being a match for Batman, but he really doesn't have anywhere near the presence of the Joker. While he is threatening and he does have some moments, including one really good one
" Follow him", and the scene that preceded that line,
there is nothing as good or as memorable about him as...well, pretty much any of the Joker's scenes, and nothing as pants-****tingly terrifying as "Look at me. LOOK. AT. ME."
QFT - great summation of my own impressions.

One final point that I feel I need to touch upon- I thought the expository stuff was handled TERRIBLY in the beginning. Just a bunch of people talking through things/explaining what was happening.

I should have worded it better. I don't think the music sucks at all, just didn't fit with this short teaser. I'm spoiled from the bootleg comic con I guess.

I have a feeling most nitpicks are because people didn't pay enough attention to the movie or just wanted a tone that wasn't in the first two movies anyway.

No, plot, pacing, character motivations, dialogue, art direction... Those are legitimate complaints for this film.

No there are clearly editing/directing problems in the first half. Scenes and characters just jump with little inbetween. It feels like there is a solid 5-10 minutes of transition scenes missing from the first half.

For those who have seen it, was Gotham as sterile and lifeless as it was in Tdk?

Nope, definitely felt closer to BB in regards to Gotham as a whole.

Inception taught us that you can make a film which uses every single spoken line as exposition and still have people eat it up.

Kinda, yeah, but it serves a purpose here more i think.

Not a positive or negative, but would you agree that in this film Gotham is basically
NYC? moreso than in the first 2 films, for reasons that are obvious (ie they filmed here), but they didn't even make an attempt to hide it

^Beaten like a motherfucker

I should also note I was really digging Bane until about halfway, then he gets sort of dumb.

The opening was fantastic, but he gets less good as it goes on.

Wasn't Gotham in TDK really blatantly Chicago?

This. People with disappointing reactions are;
1. Didnt get an ending/story they wanted
2. Nitpicking
3. <xyz> Hate club

Really? Hm. I didn't get that impression at all.

Yeah there are legitimate editing/pacing problems, but those aren't the things I'm referring to as nitpicks.

1. What if they wanted a good story?

I haven't seen it yet, so I have no room to speak obviously, but this seems to be putting the critics in a smaller box than they probably deserve.

I respect you liking the film, but its dumb to put everyone who didn't like it into some "hate club." Objectively, this film has issues. Your ability to look past them/how much you liked everything else will determine your opinion about this movie.

Saw all three movies tonight. Rises was definitely the worst of the three. I didn't understand Bane's motivations and the exposition surrounding that didn't help.

Begins is an amazing movie though and the pinnacle of a super hero arc.

That will depend on how open your expectations are.

I accept your opinion too. I just dont get your compliants. This isnt an Oscar-bait epic.

Really? I thought the film made them pretty clear. PM me if you want to discuss it further.

You
saw all three movies and the goals of the League of Shadows
wasn't clear to you by that point?

lol, I totally cant get a legitimate gauge of the film from these impressions. It's not just that everyone has their own opinion and almost sounds like people saw a different cut of the film or something, lol.

Begins has the best story, was forward-thinking and really well put together. TDK is probably my favorite though. Love the soundtrack and the contrast between Bats/Joker. It's simply a lot of fun, and hits a lot of high points. It is one of the most memorable films I can think of, and will stand the test of time as being the most iconic.

TDKR was not bad, but it suffers as a follow up to a truly phenomenal film.

I really really enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty good until the last 5 minutes which just elevated it up to great and left me with a weird sort of zen-like contentment with the trilogy overall.

No, it's not as good as TDK but it is an incredibly fitting conclusion. There are some obvious issues with the script structurally speaking which make the first act seem really rushed but I really didn't care by the end.

I will definitely be seeing it again in IMAX when I'm able.

I know, right? lol I am enjoying it though. It's a nice change of pace from the usual overwhleming love or hate big blockbusters normally get.
