After watching the marathon, one thing that makes me place Begins at the bottom of the barrel is that its the only climax in the series that wasn't particularly exciting.

The people screaming in terror from Scarecrow's gas, the final confrontation with Ra's, and the train conductor who explains the action to the audience as if we were morons...it all is so boring.

Also, as villains, Ra's and Scarecrow lacked the...bite of Joker, Two-Face, and Bane.

Bane is an extension of Ra's. I find the original idea of 'justice' without trial horrifying and depraved. Bane is just a copycat wanting to be loved by a woman that can't because she's too bent on revenge. How pitiful.

Bane tells a thug to bring him Miranda. Next scene when Wayne is brought to Lucius, Miranda is back to squatting. Next scene she is with Bane again.

Because she's Talia and the whole thing is her plan so she is there to position Bruce and Lucius precisely where she wants them to be?

Also I'm now convinced that the people objecting to Bruce/Selina can't be comic readers, right? Because arguments like "but why would Bruce want to put faith in someone who does occasionally immoral things!" is like saying, "Why does Batman dress up like a bat!"

Because that's who he is. That's why.

I didn't wonder how Miranda found herself in certain places, but I did wonder it about Bane a few times.

It's like he was there to supervise Gotham's collapse into chaos, to make sure things went smoothly.

Why would Bruce put faith in someone he doesn't know? Why should we as audience members care that she turned from morally objectionable to good? She didn't overcome anything!!

No one in this film did besides Bruce's ailments that magically get better when the plot dictates it so.

By bite I mean that they all have a visceral, terrifying quality about them. Ra's was about as threatening as Christopher Lee in the Star Wars films.

And Bane wasn't motivated by "wanting to be loved".

I'm talking about the unbelievable of Bruce falling for a woman that

1) stole his mother's pearls
2) stole his prints (thereby bankrupting him)
3) stole his car
4) walked him into a trap where Bane pulverized him and broke his back

How does he respond to that?

Gives her the BatPod and lately retires with her.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaa?
It isn't as clear cut that though. He respects her talent and understands the motivation behind her actions (driven by the idea of being able disappear completely), for the same reasons he's able to relate. She doesn't possess a twisted mind but her pursuit of freedom might've blinded her to the reality that Bane was out to utterly destroy Batman. It's through those qualities he doesn't see her as a foe, which presents a good starting point for him accepting their friendship.

Am I the only who was pissed at not a SINGLE reference to the Joker? I mean, really? Unless I fucking missed it.

Yeah, it was really too bad. I guess they did that out of respect?

Far more references to Begins than Dark Knight.

The most offensive flashback was the one at the end of Gordon putting the coat on young Bruce.

Yeah, that was bad. Like... in case you didn't know who Batman was talking about!

Your complaints are superficial at best. If this is the worst you can come up with then it should have been an amazing movie to you.

Those are questions I had while watching. The complaint is one thats harder to verbalize. When a movie just isnt working. The pace, the momentum, the script..whatever it is, this movie didnt have "it".

Performances were good..they re-did the ADR for Banes voice in the proglogue, but made it worse. Anytime he went on a rant (football field, steps of city hall) he sounded ridiculous.

They should have shown the "nice coat" flashback, then that guy kicks Bane's ass.

Movie of the forever.

And is it sad that I was expecting it to be Alfred that shot Bane at the end instead of Catwoman?

One thing is though how does Bruce get back to Gotham after getting out of the pit in a few hours. Isn't he broke?

Plot convenience. He had all that time in the prison to do his prep time.

Just got back from the marathon my theater was doing.

Absolutely amazing trilogy, loved seeing all the films back to back. Rises was a fantastic ending to the story.

I know exactly what you mean by "it"- its like there was no underlying driving force that was building to a climax. Feel exactly the same way.

I actually liked Bane's voice. I hadn't seen any of the trailers, so I didn't know what to expect. His voice totally threw me, but in a good way.

No I was wondering where the hell he went to and was expecting him to pop up and save the day with his trusty golf club but he didn't.

You'll see in the director's cut, that the prisoners placed bets on him not being able to climb out of the hole. And once he did, he took all the winnings and bought a ticket back home.

If Bruce is back in Gotham why would the thugs bring him there? Wouldnt they bring him straight to Bane? Nope...theyll bring Bruce to him...tomorrow.

Yeah, that was bad. Like... in case you didn't know who Batman was talking about!

Begins was seen by far less people, and came out 7 years ago. I think it's crazy that he would include a brief flashback. Especially since at my viewing there was an audible "Oooooohhhh" when they showed it.

Well often a woman wants you to:

1) buy her pearls
2) use your identity for benefits
3) buy her a car
4) get set up in competition / jealousy dramas with other guys

And Bruce is wearing a mask and jumping off rooftops.

I really wanna some how hear if what would the story would have been if Ledger did not die. Chances are they thought of a sequel before his death. Chances are it would have been much different then this.

I never would have dreamed that I would be posting on Gaf about being let down by a Nolan movie, let alone a Batman Nolan movie. That was the most disappointing movie I have ever seen. What a pointless, nonsensical, and lazy movie.

I am really at a loss. I feel like I could go on for fucking ever about all the things I didn't like about this movie. I just can't believe it.

Superman: The Movie, Batman Begins, and now this movie sit on a pedestal above the rest of the genre, looking down at everything else.

Movies like this remind me of why I love the character so much. Batman is easily one of the most versatile fictional characters in existence. It would be difficult to think of a genre in which a great Batman story hasn't been told: crime drama, comedy, action, psych thriller, character study, and now war.

Surely, I am not the only one that noticed how closely Tom Blake is to Tim Drake? Two letters off.

Im letting out my dislike tonight bcause when I wake up tomorrow I wont give a fuck about this movie.

Feels bad man. I know exactly what you're feeling.

Too much hyperbole in this thread now. lol

It's like an MGS4 thread.

Why were people who were living as squatters always clean shaven and looking fresh?

Someone has a razor in their back pocket.

If the reactor holder thing can stabilize the big nuke why did Talia wait till she was near death to flood it?

Because she never thought the van will be occupied and her trigger will became useless.

Why was it daytime when they left the stock exchange but it was nightime during the chase?

Time flies in TDKR.

Regarding Blake...like Michael Meyers before him...everywhere he needs to be for the story, there he is. Just appearing out of nowhere. Mirada does the same thing.

What a mess of a movie. Getting to see Batman Begins again in a theater was the highlight of my day.

You are overthinking things.

John Blake. Now I just ruined your day. You may leave.

Nolanism, random scene that has no impact on the plot or its characters.

the guards were talking about how she was going to protect herself against all those criminals.

with her hands cuffed, she spins to twist that dude's arm.

guard says something like, 'i think she'll be fine'

there was nothing wrong with that scene.

His name is John.

Just got back from seeing the midnight show. I too went into it knowing it could never top The Dark Knight, but am completly happy with TDKR. The Joker is such an awesome villain - nothing can rival that. As great as Batman's cast of villains is, the Joker is just untouchable. Bane was a good choice because he provided a nice finality to the whole deal, and it's not like the Riddler or a Poison Ivy would have been a better choice.

I don't really care about plot holes or twists you could see coming - I came to this movie to root for Batman. I was ANGRY with Bane after the first fight scene (which is insane because all those drums stop beating for a minute and actually make the situation more tense.)

Bottom line: Nolan did a great job laying the groundwork for a character than non-comic book fans care about in the first two movies, and the ending payoff in this movie erases any qualms I have about the rest of it. .

"What happens to the blonde girl Selina partners up with at the beginning of the movie?" "Why did they mention Robin?"

I don't care. I'm glad Batman won, I'm glad Jim Gordon lived (hope he'll get back with his wife too), I liked that the Batman symbol will live on, and I'm happy that Bruce was able to grant Alfred's wish of living a normal life.

Nolan scored with a PAT or RBI with this movie. He still scored though. But it was not the touchdown or home run that I wanted.

To me though, Avengers was a grand slam. And I HATE Joss Whedon.

Finally got home.

On the level of Dark Knight, and it even surpasses it in some places, just as Dark Knight surpasses TDKR in certain areas. TDK and TDKR are two very different films to me. I never felt like I was watching a "Comic Book Batman" movie with TDK. As fantastical as a man dressed up as a flying mammal to fight crime is, it somehow felt realistic, like it could really take place.

TDKR brought it back to the realm of comic books and did an amazing job at it. It felt like the epic Comic Batman movie I always wanted to see. Bale had his best performance as Batman and Bruce Wayne. Hardy was a joy to watch as Bane and I feel like he was a great choice for the final chapter along with the revelations of the League and Talia to bring it all back to Begins and close the trilogy out. I loved how you could see the actual pain in his body as he was lying there limp once most of his pain-killer was leaking out. JGL and Hathaway were both great in their roles. What more can I say about the great work they did that hasn't already been said? The closing was excellent and yes I got a little misty-eyed when Alfred broke down at the gravesite. Nolan will probably be remembered for having a end sequence that does justice to the series and doesn't bring something out of left field or go for some feel good ending that is totally out of place (Sunrise in the Matrix).

Onto my cons and they aren't that huge to take away from my overall enjoyment of the film.
-Having seen the original IMAX preview that was with M:I I could clearly tell the ADRing that was done on the plane scene. I actually enjoyed the original mix and had no problems with hearing Bane. You could tell that he was most likely recording in a studio as the way he sounded simply did not match with the subtle movements of his body that would change his voice. He was fine the rest of the film, it was just that opening sequence that was kind of jarring.
-The pacing of the time sequence of the bomb during the last half hour was not good. It never felt like those hours had passed. We went from 20 hours in one scene to 12 in the next and then down to 30 a few minutes later.
-The Selina and Batman make-out as 2 minutes were left on the nuke was kind of cheesy and something I thought would be below Nolan.
-Talia forced death scene verged on the hilarious. I actually thought she would say something like "Daddy, I'm coming home." or "It's so cold"

I think the good outweighs the bad in the film, but I really can't give it more then a 7/10, 7.5/10 if you pushed me. Too many characters, awful pacing, needlessly convoluted plotlines, contrivances on top of contrivances, and man...I can't get over what a horrible decision it was to write out Alfred for most of the story. THAT was dumb.

But man, this movie definitely has it's moments. That first fight between Bane and Batman is right up there with the TDK interrogation for best scene in the trilogy.
