Saw it last night at midnight, fantastic! My cinema was showing it in 14 screens, almost all sold out. We got there 2.5 hours early and there was a line! Get there early!

I hope everybody enjoys it. I had huge problems with it (and everybody in this thread knows I'm a big fan), but it's enjoyable enough.

TDK > BB >>>>TDKR

I'd rank it as the third out of the three, but it isn't a Spiderman 3 situation (which is what I was afraid of) or anything even remotely close to that.

One of the most complex and well directed super hero movies of our time. 10/10.

Simply amazing. These three films will be cherished, and truly given the respect they deserve in the future. Once the Nolan hate, and nit picking have died down. I left the theater with my mouth agape, as I had just witnessed something so special.

With my experience, his films actually diminish greatly on repeated viewing. I expect it will be the other way around.

Not to mention, it will be refreshing to have a discussion about the film when the Nolan fans have taken a step back to look at the films in a couple of years. Nolan fans in this thread have been proclaiming this to be the movie of the year since it started filming. I want it to be good but it's hard to have a discussion with someone like that.

Oh what was the reaction to the Superman teaser at your theater? Had a bunch of people booing and laughing at it at mine, with one guy screaming "Give it a rest already".

The Comic book 3rd act movie curse has ended....

Superman 3 in 1983 DISASTER
TMNT 3 1993 DISASTER
Batman Forever 1995 DISASTER
Blade Trinity 2004 DISASTER
X-Men Last Stand 2006 BAD
Spider-Man 3 2007 BAD
The Dark Knight Rises 2012 HIT

only with some of his films. begins, dark knight, prestige havent lost anything, inception is the complete opposite. loved it in the theatre, hate it now.

The fuck? What an odd response. I mean, Superman Returns was bad, but not THAT bad. And it was six years ago.

Im convinced that there are two cuts of tdkr, i cannot see how a film can be both poorly/greatly written with terrible/epic action, brilliant/sluggish pacing and inconsistently consistent.

Spider-Man 3 was godawful, but it made more money than the first two.

Depends how you measure the curse, friend! /TobeyMaguireLaughingToTheBank

The Superman trailer was pretty unintentionally hilarious. I thought it was one of those Turn Off Your Cellphone fakeouts for about 15 seconds.

Using that overbearing song from LotR was too much. The flight scene was cool, but we know Zack Snyder is going to make something that at least looks good.

So does Nolan do Director's Cuts for DVD releases?
Nope. He considers the theatrical cut to be it.

I wonder what plot lines were cut then, since apparently the uncut version was around 4 hours.

I don't agree and I am not even a fan.

Memento
The Prestige
BB
TDK

Are all better on repeat viewing. Inception is such a weird beast because it really does feel like a movie that should be seen on a big screen. The scale just doesn't work at home. Insomnia just seems like a payback movie for getting Memento funded. Overall I enjoy his output. He's one of the better Hollywood directors.

I know that isn't saying much because hollywood...

Stupid question, but I'm kind of afraid to go digging on the internet in general because of spoilers: Can someone remind me how the last Batman movie ended? My recollection is (first two movies, NOT the third):

1. Batman parents die. Batman becomes ninja.
2. Batman fights Joker, I Believe In Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face, but did the joker die? I don't remember what happened to him at all.

In general I guess I forgot most of the plot from those two movies. :P I seem to remember the last one feeling especially "brutal" if that adjective makes sense. I suspect this one will be even darker.

same here i thought it was the best bat film yet but its obvious the pacing was so fast there HAD to be a lot of scenes cut.

Are you hoping for a Movie of the Year edition?

Yep.

The Dark Knight Rises - Outstanding/10

Amazing ending to a stunning trilogy. It was the perfect mix of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

I cant decide which is my favourite out of the three films.

The Superman trailer was attached aswell so that was cool. I wasnt expecting it to be shown in the UK.

So what's in the man of steel teaser? Any footage of film, or just some lame logo close up?

From what I saw from a leaked trailer (I don't think it's up anymore) is Clark trying to hitchhike, then some shots of him as a kid playing with the laundry and putting on some red cloth for a cape with some narration, then "Man of Steel" comes up, and then a scene where Superman flies through the clouds. Then the logo.

That song in LotR when the Fellowship is broken plays incredibly loudly.

Desaturated image of fields and a child running around with a red cape in the fields.

Cavill going full Wolverine mode trying to hitchike in the woods with a grizzly beard and generally looking dirty. Truck drives past him. He looks defeated and then there's some voiceover.

Back to the field.

Man of Steel logo.

Superman flying and breaking the sound barrier not 1, not 2, not 3...

My man.

I really enjoyed this, even with tempered expectations. I don't consider TDK to be the holy grail that I used to--there are too many problems with the third act and its pacing.

TDKR does have its inconsistencies, some very blatant (lots of "how did he do that/how did he get there?") moments, and at times it does a poor job of transitioning between scenes and conveying the passage of time.

The first hour or so felt "slow", or muddled, even though it was cut and edited a little too quickly at times. However, the "second and third act" are spectacular, even with their flaws, and the pace is much better than TDK, IMO.

Great end to the series. Oh, his fight scenes are better than any of his other movies, but still not great. There are two fight scenes that are spectacular, though.

I don't know if it was our shitty theatre's speakers, but did anyone else feel like the gunfire/punch impacts were puny-sounding? I was a little disappointed by that.

well that doesn't sound bad, I was expecting something like the comic-con footage.

Really liked it. Overall, first thoughts are: more like begins, which is nice, but I think I still like TDK more. A++ trilogy. Rewatching the other two earlier this week made the viewing better. It's like poetry, etc.

Will save most talk for the other thread. Too much good to talk about inhibited.

No trailers, though. Will Skyfall IMAX and Man of Steel trailers ever come online

No one will go with me anymore because of the shooting :(

Yeah, I know this sounds shallow of me (I've already posted my condolences on the subject matter in the other thread), but I'm also wondering how this will affect the projected weekend box office rates. I can definitely see loads of people cancelling their tickets out of fear that a similar action will be done against them.

About 6 hours left for me, but I'm gonna show up a couple hours before hand with a book so I can get a good backrow middle seat. It's surprisingly chilly out I should bring a blanket just in case they blast the AC. Then I can sit like an old dying lady and be so comfortable.

Just heard about the shooting. I have a friend who lives up in that area...I'm both worried because I don't know where he was that night but if he's okay I bet he won't go near this movie now until it hits store shelves.
