TDKR was great, but TDK was just a bit better to me. TDK just had better pacing and a more interesting villain. Nolan's Batman trilogy as a whole was great, though.

I wonder if Nolan/WB considered making this a two part film?
Personally, I think it would have benefited the film slightly. No big loss, but the buildup of the characters and plot could have been its own movie, with the payoff being another.

Nolan is really ambitious with these films, and it's quite a feat to fit it all in under 3 hours. I didn't feel like BB and TDK need to be longer or be split, but this movie feels like it would've been done some more justice if it was.

It felt like a good mix of both. Youll see.

I like Begins much more than the tdk, main reason for that is that the look and feel of tdk didn`t work for me as a batman movie. It felt more like a Michael Mann movie than batman`s universe.

So the tdkr returns to have mostly a more batman like atmosphere like Begins? Did you like Begins or tdk more?

When are you seeing it?

Pretty easy metric - if you didn't feel the microwave emitter in Begins was preposterous, if you weren't bored by the first hour, if you're not biased there will never be a Joker sized villain again, if you have forgiven the minor flaws that are both present in BB and TDK where there is just inconsistencies on how what could happen when, and if you don't go to Batman films for just Batman, but also for Bruce Wayne, then you will love the shit out of this.

If not, temper your expectations accordingly.

Wow then I will love it!

22.5 HOURS!

RISE!

just got back it was strictly OK.

It felt like Batman and his Shitty friends.

1) too over the top
2) too many characters
3) way too many leaps in logic
4) just too bloated in general.

Don't understand the too many characters criticism if not levelled at TDK as well. Also the bloated one.

Nolan must be cursing his luck...Ledger dies near TDK's release, now a massacre on TDKR's opening. Really hope this doesn't affect the movies impression on people though. The cast is canceling interviews and premier in Paris was canceled as well because of this.

Its unfortunate what happened with both movies but in both instances the victims are where the real concern should be. Nolan is pretty damn good himself with all the fame, money, and respect he has earned with his movies.

Mark Kermode's review + Interview with Nolan

http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/kermode/kermode_20120720-1800a.mp3

Mostly the same questions he always gets: 3D, CGI, etc etc

He confirms that Wally won't be his DP (Yes he said DP, Sculli!) anymore now that he's a director and he's looking for a new one. He also reconfirms that he wants to do Bond and has met with the producers before.

It's going to happen, Solo. Accept it.
I will make that metldown thread. Calling it in the OT OT thread now.

Kermodes review seems gleaming, he loved it from what i heard

True, but there still should be a criticism that there was too many characters and it was bloated.

I'm surprised how much TDK love really is being put down to the Joker, wow.

I feel its a lot of the reason why some critics (not all because I am sure there are legit flaws they bring up) can't seem to like this movie because everything and esp the villain is being compared to the Joker. I guess that is legit too in many ways because if you are making a sequel it has to top TDK in every way right? I don't know I just knew from the start that the Joker thing would bring down the enjoyment for a lot of people.

You're surprised that the best character in the film (and the best performance in the trilogy) is being praised?

TDK was an entertaining movie (my favorite of the two, seeing the third tonight) but interest just picks up immensely whenever Joker appeared on screen, and you could see it in the audience too.

I kind of had these same issues with TDK. They should have completely left the Two-Face bit out of the movie, which would have significantly cut down on the running time.

Joker was fantastic, he really was. I'm not surprised that he is being praised, but how much he seemed central to TDK being loved. He isn't in it all that much, it seems like the rest of the film - especially Harvey - gets left in the wake of Joker and that's a cited reason why many people seem to like TDK more; purely because of Joker.

Waiting for Bluray release as I am spoiled by my own movie theater but I forgave all the movies for the above so I am hopeful.

i think this movie everything including bad guy motivations felt very forced. The Action was good. Acting was pretty good but movie felt disjointed. the first 2 movies felt a bit personal but this movie just felt too over top.

Alfred and Bruce scenes were the best part of the movie.

TDKR.....Review
SPOIL... ERS

Well it was insane and awesome and not as good as TDK, and the only reason I can think of is because TDK came out of no where and amazed everyone, this movie with all its craziness and fan service which isn't a bad thing, just had no change to be better than a surprise.... Mister Tom Hardy did a fine job as a villain, but I hate that at the end his just shot and you never seen him again. It's like most of the film never gets its right amount of time on-screen. The plot twists I should have seen coming, but were affective enough. JGL,Miss Anna, and Bale where amazing as actors. Shame about Freeman you could totally tell about his arm. Also mister Caine was amazing and I'm glad he in Nolan next new hotness. Tom was way more insane than Joker, and it showed, but it wasn't as a surprise as Joker was. But the fact is this movie wasn't a surprise and that in itself is the main reason it not as good. This is a spectacular trilogy. The Ending was amazing, and ended right.....
definitely made me like Robin more.
The thing I dislike most was that the, RISE part wasn't long enough. Bruce should have had 10 more minutes in the prison, the editing was good, but was too quick, in not showing the right parts, long enough. The prison scene felt less signficant because of it.

Still a great trilogy and great movie... will watch again a week from now. This isn't a third movie cruse it's the fact that the beginning is always better than the end because we have the control over it, until its revealed. Also since I posted at the end of the page, plus need to add, that HOLLYWOOD REEEEEEEAAAAALLLLLLYYYY needs to stop taking so long with these film... motherfucas be old up the shit. lol
TDK>BB=TDKR....

Best Trilogy in 20 years.

I guess, but I felt that everyone - Bruce, Harvey, etc. - was pushed aside due to the focus being mostly on Joker in TDK. I know who all these people are - save for Rachel due to not being in the books - but man, Two-Face was not developed at all for me (hell, I felt they gave him due in Forever moreso than in TDK) while everything was basically highlighting the Joker.

As I said in the other thread, I felt that TDK really was a Joker-centric film rather than a Batman/Bruce Wayne one, which is why I prefer BB more due to it being Bruce-centric. Despite not being in total love with TDKR, it's stronger than TDK for me because of Bruce's arc.

Harvey was the most developed character in the whole film

Oh... OOHHH!!!!

An odd request, but can ducky or some other mod please consider this:

The title of the spoiler thread is tooo similar to this. I almost accidently clicked that twice (same length title, and both these threads are alternating to the top of the list in OT).

Can that thread be put in the community forum, for at least a while or have its title modified so that it doesnt resemble this one? I'm trying to avoid OT and use my subscriptions to enter this thread, but I want to read other stuff in OT too.

Pls.

Spoiler thread title changed to reflect Aurora.
Don't click it if you don't want spoilers

Harvey was the most developed character in the whole film

Harvey yes, Two-Face? Not so much which is why I don't feel like he got enough due in TDK.

Again though, I never said that I outright hated TDK or anything, I just felt more connected to Bruce's story than anyone else, which was sorely lacking in TDK for me whereas the Joker seemed to have most of the focus.
