Fork 'em, Sparky!
You just don't know how good that fried chicken is bruh.
Do you happen to post on other messageboards? I feel like I know you, possibly under the username RiskyChristina? Avatar of a pink Yoshi?

But I think with some people it does. If Arby's got exposed for being anti-gay, I'm sure many more people in this thread would be like "fuck 'em, they suck anyway."
This can also be a double edged sword, as also evidenced by a few claiming to eat at CFA to spite those getting enraged over this topic.
The country is pretty much split on the root theme, after all.

There is no all or nothing attitude. There is the reality that the decision to purchase chicken, or not to purchase chicken, from an organization that promotes disgraceful causes is not a complicated one. If you think the Chik Fil A experience outweighs the fact that you are contributing in some small way to efforts to maintain second-class citizenship for gays, that is your choice, but it is not a complex moral dilemma and efforts to inflate it into Sophie's Choice so as to rationalize your preference are risible.
Pfft.
Dev is a porn connoisseur, not some thirsty white knight.
This conversation is a good thing.

i really don't know and i'm actually quite curious now. most of the chicken debates have always been about kfc vs popeyes as far as i've seen. churches randomly pops up, but i can't honestly recall too many chick-fil-a's. so to see how much praise it's got in this thread is a bit surprising to me.You just don't know how good that fried chicken is bruh.

It does have a net positive gain for the pro-gay cause, but you have to consider the general make-up and demographic of GAF. Pretty much preaching to the choir, heh.
Except for those choir members who were ignorant of the subject, heh.
It seems you and I agree more or less. Unless you are claiming I'm making this entire thing into a complex moral dilemma, which I don't think I am.
Reading the interview, I was interested in the fact that a lot of these Christian values would be things every one would consider good, like honest hard work and a keen attention to quality and service. It just so happens that something like a fundamental intolerance to a certain demographic getting married (and often times an intolerance to the demo itself) is nestled in with all that.

Well of course, why else would the pastor be preaching to them?
Ironically, I wonder if this thread has given any more business to the restaurant by virtue of it being in people's consciousness. I haven't had their sandwiches in maybe 4 years and never even thought about them until seeing this thread. I won't support them after finding this info out, but I can't help but admit I've been day-dreaming about their sandwiches a little bit since this thread started.
Well you were talking about how intricate the situation is, which was my jumping-off point. I'm also not sure how hard work and attention to quality and service are particularly Christian values.
Well of course, why else would the pastor be preaching to them?
Well this thread did prompt me to contact my cousin, who is gay. I filled her in -she lives in Chicago and doesn't know jack about the chain - and I get the feeling she would have cussed me out if I were not her older cousin. She seemed hurt by the fact I still considered eating there. Well that settled it for me more than anything, although I will still have awhen driving by a Chick-fil-a. So fuck you Chick-fil-a, and your amazing, bigoted chicken.
Well, I'm sure there are some gay-hating people out there who will eat there more just because of their stance (although that's not what you were talking about). One can just hope that MORE people disagree with their stance on gay rights and will not go there.
I feel bad for the employees, mostly.
Why couldn't this has been some shitty fast food joint like McDonalds or Taco Bell![]()
I don't think you understand what preaching to the choir means then.
I haven't had it in a while. Going to have it tonight because of this thread.Taco Bell is great so hush that mess.
I actually do. I mistook that thread of convo as a fun little aside and that the implicit meaning would be preserved even with that amendment -- or he just wouldn't care. I wasn't expecting it to be scrutinized, especially since we generally agreed on the point the aside was spawned from. It's serious mode all the time in these threads, I see. Rookie mistake.
Forgive me folks, but I just heard about this on the news this morning. Now from what I understand they are basically standing on their beliefs. They in no way shape or form have discriminated against the gay and lesbian community have they?

I got that you were joking, I just don't agree that the joke reflects an understanding of what has occurred. Telling a joke does not grant you a pass to distort things. It is okay to mix humor and debate, but it can be difficult to do both and there is a learning curve.

Ya know what, I "respect" that kind of honesty about bigotry. I sooooooo tired of this passive-aggressive, devil's advocate mickey mouse BULLSHIT masquerading racism/sexism/homophobia that goes around on GAF and all over the internet, that just straight up honesty is kinda refreshing. I know that's an odd thing to say, but I like people to say what they feel.
Dude their meat isn't real. It's like goop coming out of an extruder.
Note: I will eat Taco Bell, but it's not great.
This is my favorite post in the thread. I literally laughed out loud. Monocle often summarizes a point well and with sharp humor, but this is about as good as it gets.I don't hate you krypt0nian, I just give my money to people who despise everything you are and who use their vast wealth to try and regulate your private life. God this sandwich is tasty.
So has anyone in this thread
ANYONE AT ALL
Been convinced to stop eating chick-fil-a/accept those that do/change their viewpoint?
I said it wasn't simply a binary situation, as your posts kept postulating. It has intricacies beyond the two streamlined choices that were implicitly set up in a right or wrong manner a number of times throughout this thread.
They aren't solely Christian values. But they are values that Christians hold.

I'm a Christian but I also have gay cousins and friends and would very much like to not offend them by supporting chic fil a.
I'm a diabetic so I shouldn't be eating their food anyway

They are against marriage between members of the same sex.

Well, McDonals cuts down rain forests to make grazing land for cows if that helps. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a big corporation that doesn't do something unethical. And, of course, eating meat is unethical. There's no reason to cause pain and suffering to animals when you can live on a vegan diet.

"Sorry sir, I need to find a new job. I can't sleep well at night knowing that my hard work and our customer's dollars are funding bigots and their messaging."
Not to trivialize it, but I really wouldn't have a problem if my kid, or wife, or brother or whatever quit because of a principle.
Only Siths think in absolutes.
Every little thing you do is better than doing nothing whatsoever is my view.
If you REALLY like Chick-Fil-A, then it's understandable if you can't cut it out despite not liking what your money end up indirectly supporting. Maybe switching to KFC would result in your money not ending up indirectly supporting anti-gay sentiments, but then your money might end up indirectly supporting something else that you might not want to support.
It's all about finding the balance between what you want, and what you do.
