Will I get ridiculed if I said this movie was goddamned amazing?

Because TDKR goddamn amazing. I don't get the negatives reviews. I would argue that even at its worse the movie is still compelling. Fastest 160 minutes I've ever seen.

Ok here's my impressions, spoiler free.

I liked it, I was going to save "loved it" but that would be a lie, it was great but not amazing like TDK. Some of the complaints that have been raised I don't really disagree with but it's a matter of going along for the ride or letting those things eat at you and lower your enjoyment of the film.

I'd probably put it on par with BB, which on first watch I loved, but rewatching it on the lead up to TDKR some of the elements of it didn't hold up quite was well. There are some great moments that I loved, and some I didn't. There is a subtle sensation of going through the motions to wrap up the franchise which is something so far Nolan has managed to avoid but I found the ending to be a really satisfying end to this trilogy, so much so that I'm sad to see it end, knowing that we have any more films from Nolan and his crew.

Having said that it leaves me excited for where the franchise will go next, I'm hoping for something a bit smaller in scope to be honest, as I don't think they can go any bigger from where they've been.

And to whoever said "if you like Nolan's Batman films, you don't like Batman as a character" you're a purist moron, this movie is a balls out comic book movie, more so than the previous two. The setups and stakes feel familiar to the genre but the way it's handled and where the story goes with it is hasn't been done before in a comic book movie.

The Man of Steel trailer was played before the movie, not much shown of superman and none of Zod etc that was in the SDCC trailer. Lots of bearded superman with voiceovers showing a kid with a cape running around a farmyard. Final shot was superman flying up into the sky.

Just got back from it. It IS amazing. I have no idea what the negative reviewers were watching. Saw it in imax and was worth every penny.

The audience clapped afterwards, which is a very unBritish thing to do but damn the movie deserved it.

Look at these hardcore fans at the front of the line for my showing. 2 hours before showtime.

Give it time to sink in. The more you think about it the more horrible the movie becomes.

Just saw it. I really enjoyed every minute. However, I was not overly blown away. I absolutely loved Catwoman, Bane and Bale and was thrilled I could actually understand Bane. And hearing Zimmers iconic Batman music come in gave me insane chills.

An interesting note was afterwards my dad made the comment that he loved it, but there was no way he could sit through the 3 hours again.

Maybe it lacked substance.
I need to think about it some more. But as of right now:
Batman Begins < The Dark Knight Rises < The Dark Knight

Jesus Christ I felt like i just had an anxiety attack for 3 hours, biting my nails, wiping my brow, on the edge of my seat. Never expected the movie to go as far as it did. This was fucking hardcore !!!!

Not really interested in reading about GAF tearing the movie a new asshole. I'm pretty pleased right now and very shaken up ... I'm drinking !!

Same here, in New Zealand. People don't usually clap here unless the cast/crew are attending. It's not like Nolan can hear your applause.

But this time, they loved it. Only other film it's ever happened in that I've been at is LotR:RotK.

Now come to the spoiler thread and jump down the rabbit hole!

I just came home from the theatre and I don't even know what to say. I didn't like this movie and considering the fact I spent 4 years looking forward to it I feel pretty bad right now. I (obviously) won't go into detail in this thread but.. Damn. The more I think about it the more angry and confused I get.

I have some nitpicks but overall Im pleased. The movie was darker than I ever imagined and I'm surprised a Batman movie like this snuck out of the Hollywood studio system

lol, my brother sits and reserves my seat... a bummy old man sits left of where I am supposed to sit

I arrive and asked my brother "why did you chose to sit next to a bum?"

he says its not his fault and the bum arrived after my bro.

I sit down and the bum does anoying ""mmmm" ""mmm" sounds with his mouth loud

I get up and say "fuck this, we changing seats<

luckily, there were 2 availalbe seats 4 rows back before the theatre got completely filled.

We were so happy to have changed seats, I eyed these girls who ended up sitting in our formers seats next to the bum

the bum eventually left 40 minutes in after it started.

WTF do they get their money to watch movies?

OH, awesome movie!, will go again a 2nd time, ... hopefully no bum

***my biggest nit pick was the city skyline shots and the view of the bridges.... Gotham should not be New York City.... Metropolis is NYC.. Gotham should be seedy Chicago during the gangster years

So I have watched this now.
If you enjoyed Batman Begins for the journey it took us on to explore the character of Bruce Wayne, you will not be disappointed.

It is undeniable that this is the most complete and most grand scale film Nolan has worked on, so far in his career. And the sheer level of fidelity in terms of visual splendour means Pfister is just as much responsible for this film as Nolan was. This was a gorgeous film.
I honestly believe that this is Nolan's best film, and I honestly don't think he will ever be able to top this. Sure you can say that you like TDK or BB begins more, but there is absolutely no denying that this one is the better work out of the three as a whole. This was the first Nolan film to have an actually good final act. Unlike TDK for instance, where you get a sense of detachment the moment the film gets to the Boat scene, TDKR provides a constant reason to be engrossed. This also had what I felt to be an appropriate run time to finish off such a great story. Absolutely great.
There is a huge array of characters, and all of them are handled well. The good ones get the right amount of screen time, the not so good ones are pushed back to the background. But the focus on Bruce Wayne as a character, was absolutely the best part here. The character of Batman starts to mean so much to the city and the world. You watch Bruce stand up get put down and rise again as something more than he previously was. What a way to explore a character.
There were so many great moments here. The only way it could have ended.
And yes, this is by far the best superhero film out there, and one of the best films to come out in recent years.
You can enjoy other Batman or other superhero flicks more for other reasons. But there is absolutely no denying that this is the most grandiose, well realised superhero adaptation to date.
Your review did not disappoint me. I knew you would genuinely love this, and not because you love everything or some bs, but because this is loaded with stuff YOU specifically love.

The Blade Runner style shots sold you, didnt they. I know they sold me. Nolan wore his heart on his sleeve with this movie. I've never seen him be so meta with his fans.

Good movie. 7/10. BB was better though. BB > TDK > TKDR

I fucking LOVED IT. Let's get this out of the way straight away - in some ways this is the very worst entry in the series, and in some ways its the very best entry in the series. It is BY FAR (like much, MUCH more than even BB) the most comic book-y of the films.

As such, it carries a whole host of contrivances and holes in the plot and the film's internal logic that trump anything seen in either BB or TDK. Big time. I suspect this is a movie that will have its nits picked to an extent that would make the nitpicking done on TDK seem tame. Also, time and distance are played extremely fast and loose with, and as such, I would probably would say its the messiest movie of the three, from an editing and plotting perspective. Some of the characters, Bane and Miranda Tate chief among them, were not nearly as well developed as Rhas was in BB or The Joker or Harvey were in TDK. Fabulously acted, but both felt as though they needed some more meat on their bones. The action wasn't bad at all, and most of it was clearly shot, but as usual it lacked that stylistic and editing prowess that Nolan's action always does. So yeah, TDKR has its problems.

Thankfully, it's also FUCKING AWESOME. Bruce's arc, which has always been the heart of the franchise for me (and his backseat role in TDK is one of the reasons I am down on that film), gets the treatment and the screentime it deserved, and Nolan pulled it off brilliantly. Like, fucking amazingly. I had the biggest smile on my face during the final scenes. The heart and emotional undercurrent that drove BB has returned here in droves, and Bale really gets to shine. It really felt like the ending to an epic trilogy, and it really went out with a bang. The final few minutes were just perfect. I suspect there will be some controversy arise out of some of the final events, but I felt there were all thematically justified and struck just the right note for me. I was 100% completely satisfied with the journey of Bruce Wayne.

There is a whole host of fanservice in this movie, but you know what? That shit fucking worked for me. TDK and especially BB have heaps of references to them, both overt and subtle, and I ate that shit right up. The cast was great as usual, with the real standouts aside from Bale this time being Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway. Caine just fucking slays me when he gets on with the emotional stuff, and Anne absolutely owned her role and definitely came to play. So many great scenes that I know I've likely forgotten half of them already, yet some of them are instantly unforgettable to me.

A bold, unconventional, out there conclusion to a flawed, but very special trilogy for me. It's Chris Nolan being Chris Nolan, and all the good and the bad that comes with it, and he nailed this one for me. A script with issues triumphed over by a movie with character arcs and emotional beats that resonate.
You beautiful son of a bitch. You earned this.
