Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Well, good to know that everyone cant get back in. Thought it was an issue on my end

yeah me too but i guess servers crashed.

so i made a sylvari and i love there beginning zone but i kinda still prefer the norn starting area compared to the sylvari but i havent tried char nor asura so let see when the game releases.

Guess this is the game's way of telling me to get my ass on to the movie theater to catch this 2:15 am showing of Batman. Which is three hours from now.

Anyone else just get booted? I have been playing fine all day, but just got knocked out of the game. Trying to log back in but I'm getting a message about internet connection or firewall settings.

Edit: nvm common issues it seems

Are you sure you bought the right game? Sometimes there are zergs, but it's not at all difficult to go in a different direction from then. You even get bonus xp for killing mobs that haven't died in a while encouraging such behavior. Also there's like no story or cutscene focus at all lol. If you're just doing your personal story then you're playing the game wrong. Just go out and explore. Also you can and should increase the camera speed.

Also my sylvari guardian. Totally love the glow.

In related news, guardian range still absolutely blows.

Like I said, I only played 30 minutes or so and it seemed extremely story focused.

What's up with MMORPGs lately starting players out in some epic sequence where everything all chaos and explosions? I hate that shit. I'd much rather be slowly introduced into the world.

Anyway, I'll definitely try just exploring the next time I log in. I may even start a different class and race. I don't think the Mesmer was what I was expecting.

Have you tried adjusting options on the interface? You can speed up the camera turn speed.

I'll definitely check that out!

quick question, do all starter zones have weapon vendor sellers? Ive been looking around in the norn area and I cant seem to find a weapon merchant. Would be helpful since I found out that I really do not like axes :(

Wanna try out the other ranger weapons before i decide whether i like the class or not

My impression that it isnt really all that story focused at all. You can make it if you want it that way by plowing though your personal story, but there is plenty of content simply from walking around, exploring, doing DEs to completely avoid it if you want

Yeah, I've been looking for a weapon vendor in the Asura starter zone so i can try out different weapon skills.

I can say only one out of the very, very many event chains I've played so far throughout all BWEs have bored me.

This fucking guy:

The moment I went from using a mace to a greatsword was the moment guardian went from meh to awesome. I really, really don't see much point to using the mace over a sword or greatsword.

I was finally going to get off the overflow servers and on to Gates of Madness and got booted. Oh well, I have to eat anyways.

I saw that they added access to banked collectibles at crafting working stations. Awesome convenience.

Yep, login is all messed up.

Well least it's not on my end. Hell of a downer tho, got home after working all day, made it through one reknown heart, went to Hoelbrak and just GRRRNNNNNNGGGGGGG logout.

Games running at a solid 50-60fps with v-sync on and medium/high settings tho, that's nice.

yeah the mace is bad. Greatsword or hammer is the only way to roll. Everything else just doesn't measure up.

I'm pretty much lost as to what class I want to roll come launch. I love nearly every profession but then the little animation details push me away.

It also seems like I'm leveling too slowly. I've done all of the heart quests and usually stayed for the next event, but my highest level is still only an 8. What am I doing wrong?

Same thing here. Wish I would have checked this thread before setting up a static IP and port forwarding lol.

One guy at my internship was a little interested about Guild Wars 2, so I told him how to get 20% off on Green Man Gaming to buy it. He tried the beta, and now he's whining on facebook that the game is awful and he didn't have fun for a second.

I feel kinda bad. :( Should I GAF? I hope I don't feel the same way once I play.

He has bad opinions. Don't feel bad. Why didn't you recommend amazon instead? It's the one preorder with zero strings attached.

I'm in Canada, I didn't know you could use a fake address at that time.

EDIT: Woops, seems that Canada had the pre-order code too. He wouldn't have saved 20% though.

Not at all. You said the guy expressed interest. You just directed him to a cheaper way to acquire it.

Well, the game is awesome. Played for a bit tonight on a Charr character, couldn't get into the little guys and the Sylvari is probably going to be my main ... but man, Charr is pretty awesome too, I have a bit to decide.

Not sure how much more I want to play and ruin the story stuff though. WvW I could get into when I was on Henge but it was just a bloodbath of AoE towards the 8 of us fighting. Once I got onto Gate I couldn't even que ... so I'm thinking a middle ranged server might be best instead of one that has 'known' people going to it.

Either way, this BWE was 10x better than the last 2 for me. 1st was fun no doubt with some issues, BWE2 couldn't even get in to WvW at all and was booted constantly with terrible performance.

This round was pretty smooth with a lower midrange PC and in instances in stuff turned it up and looked awesome.

Having never played GW, but I've played MMOs, what would the easiest class be? Tried necro but it just seems like there weren't enough quests to progress. I'm at level 8 and can't seem to find anything around my level I haven't done.

Horrible lag in Conquest mode for me. Not sure if it's on my end or something to do with ANet. It's unplayable at this point and all I wanted to do is some PvP.

I don't think I killed a single person in PvP as ranger with a longbow/shortbow. I just get mowed over. As a thief I wreck.. but ranger... ugh and the pet management blows. Least they actually listen... but they don't have a leash so they'll follow a fow to the ends of the earth. I want to like ranger, but pet classes.. ugh.

The hearts aren't the only quests, stuff just pops up in the areas.

Too to much to do still, not enough time to play =(

Elementalist and Warrior feel simple enough. All of the classes have some sort of hidden depth tho. You should be trying different activities, like exploration challenges and visiting new areas (even lower level stuff that you might have missed, it scales you back and you are still getting rewarded). Try WvW too if you can. Pretty easy to gain levels there.

If you ever find a moment when you aren't leveled enough in a PVE sense, head to the portals and try out the different racial areas.

Man, Asuras love jumping challenges, every building have one, little ones like jumping.

Hammer/Greatsword Guardian is awesome

How the fuck do you pvp? I pick world vs world at the top, everything is always fucking full and askes me to queue, i pick yes but no icon or confirmation pops up, 5 hours later im still not in any pvp.

You pvp by talking to an npc. You WvWvW by going through the gate... even with queues 5 hours sounds like something fucked up.

People are sounding pretty unhappy with the Mesmer class. Of course, people are going to complain, but I think its valid to say that the class has gotten progressively worse with each BWE.

They have made confusion matter, but that is hurt by scepter's poor design. The clones doing 0 damage has made certain clones inferior to others. Clones STILL replace phantasms and that's a huge issue they haven't even responded to.

The shatter mechanic is still one of the weakest class mechanics in game. I don't know if it will ever not be a shackle upon the class as long as its tied to pathfinding. Clones as resource/combo points sucks because other players can easily erase what you've built up. It's like a crappy adrenaline bar.

And the other factor is that the more people play, the better they have gotten at telling who the real Mesmer is. Players are probably feeling weaker because the deception factor is fading away.

Was pretty let down with Asura starting area. I do like the asura, they feel fast, and dodging animation is sweet. Jumping with them felt a little too floaty though.

Male Sylvari shooting animation for engineer felt really weird. Wonder what female sylvari is like.

Unfortunatly none of the races jumped out at me that I want to play with as my main. :(

2 more days to find my main character... Must find a main!

Yo, seriously?! Asura's can be this cool? I liked them in EOTN because I thought they were funny, but this guy is 100% Grade 'A' bad ass.

I started over as a Norn Guardian and I'm having a lot more fun. I guess I just didn't like the Mesmer or Human starting area or something. This Norn area is much more pleasant and relaxed. I'm rather enjoying the game now the more I learn about it the more I like.

I think I'll definitely pick it up before or around launch. Gotta love that lack of subscription without being a nickle and diming f2p game.

Once you get over the main mountain pass in the Norn area, things get from "oo this is pretty cool" to "yeah, I want to spend the rest of my life here"

Something about it.
