New theory:The Dark Knight takes place in a parallel universe. Its reality slightly overlaps the one in the Begins and Rises universes (Dent martyr, Batman villain), but some things are different (changing cityscapes, no Joker outside of Dark Knight, different Rachels).

Either that or end it in an Inception-kind of way. Not that your way isn't, necessarily, but if Alfred distinctly smiles, it might give it away too much that Bruce is still alive. Maybe... I don't know... Something else. Something Nolan.
 
The more I think about it the more I wish that Bruce wasn't revealed at the end to Alfred. I was thinking he was just going to look up and nod at the camera but not show Wayne.

Nolan probably read too many retarded Inception fan theories and decided "fuck it" and just made the ending as clear and literal as possible.
 
You do the Just Alfred Smile thing, you don't get to see he's with Selina. And if you watched the movie and thusly fell in love with Selina, you'd wanna see that.

Selina>all other NolanBat girls, obvs.

That would have been way too Inceptiony. I think the audience needed that feeling of "Bruce Wayne is finally living his life." without any ambiguity.

He's got no money, no problems and is off in Italy fucking Selina Kyle every day.

I think they directly implied that he was going to take up Bruce's mantel as protector, but a new batman seems unlikely. I agree that they were perhaps implying a Robin or something.
 
Loved it. First third (after the Bane escape) was a bit rough IMO and could have done with some tweaks, but once it got going it was immense. There was a palpable dread about what was going to happen, and Bane was seriously impressive.

I would have liked to have seen a few vignettes of real Gotham citizens and how they were reacting to being imprisoned but no biggie.
 
Just got back. It was good, not great. Too many plotholes, cheese and things that didn't sit right.

Park the Batwing on a roof and put a camo-cover on top of it on a rooftop building that just makes it stand out even more. Even that aside, nobody in FIVE MONTHS went up to the roof and was like "Oh what's this thing right here?"

The lack of any type of reference to the Joker was absolutely horrible. Shouldn't he have been in the prison with everyone else? I find it hard to believe that a five month period went by with Gotham in total anarchy and he didn't do anything.

Don't buy the fact that Alfred abandoned Bruce.

Her "motivation" was to avenge her father and/or fulfill her father's dream. So their plan is to draw the whole thing out for five months while Bruce Wayne watched from a tv in a dungeon? They didn't even have any demands. Did anyone in the US government ask them for any demands?

This was the worst offense to me by far. "Hey we can blow up Gotham right now but we'll wait for Bruce to watch over the course of five months as shit happens and give him time to come back and beat us." It's seriously such a comic book thing to do that it feels really shitty in the Nolan universe.

Even after he climbed out of that hole how the fuck did he escape from India or wherever the hell he was to get a flight to America with no money or passport and then get INTO Gotham. He's just there and his first reveal just so happened to be Selina protecting a kid thief. Give me a fucking break.

Also why the hell did Bane have the British accent? Felt really out of place since the character isn't supposed to be..

They should just do a Batman Beyond spin. Think it'll make decent scratch.
 
Really tho, is Nolan getting a cut of JGL's check on every one of these sequels? He did him a bigger direct favor than just about any director I've seen do for an actor he's only done two films with (1 where he retro converted a major role for him to play in).

Honestly though I would've been fine if Bruce was dead, and still had JGL finding the cave and what not but thats just me.
 
Guys, it should have ended with the nuclear explosion in the background, when suddenly a figure far from the sky comes into view. Next thing you know, the Bat hovercraft thing comes flying right at you - in 3D! Wow! Then the whole city cheers, "We love the Batman!". Then cut to Batman giving a press conference with his smoking hot Catwoman. Some reporter shouts out, "Who really is the Batman?!". Then he takes his mask off, revealing Bruce Wayne. With a smirk, he looks right at the camera and says, "That's right, baby". Cue obnoxious rock and roll music. A FILM DIRECTED BY CHRISTOPHER NOLAN.
 
Saw it at midnight and loved it. I love all the Batman movies equally and this was jsut the cherry on top. I was grinning as I left the theater so a lot of things sat well with me obviously. I'm a sucker for happy endings, so it's good it ended this way for me personally. My real only complaints are minor nitpicks, but beyond that the movie was phenomonal.

There was actually a pretty buff guy dressed as TDKR Bane in my movie theater and I was tempted to walk up to him after and ask if he could get his voice to sound like that... But I didnt feel like getting my ass tossed over the railing.

Kind of sad the Talia thing was sort of spoiled for me as well. that was in the back of my head the entire movie.

Margaret Pomaranz's review is practically whatever I wanted to say.

I disliked the fact that Bane's dialogue was obstructed by the bass levels of the sound mixing and/or Zimmer's music hitting the 11th degree (and I've loved Zimmer since A League of Their Own & The Lion King), but I enjoyed the movie for what it was. There were a few editing problems that made me shake my head in disbelief, specifically the fact that a bankrupted Bruce Wayne somehow showed up miraculously in Gotham after Bane & co. locked the city down. But at the end of the day the movie is a superhero fanfare; I love DC and I've loved Batman since I was a kid. The fact that these movies came along after the horrendous levels of mediocrity via Schumacher is more than enough to please me.

Again Pomeranz said it best: "Maybe not quite up to the standard of the first two in the series, but deserving of a very honourable mention."
 
Small little cool bit I loved: The reappearance of Batman on the Batpod and how the lights in the tunnel and cars just went off with 100 yards... like Batman is literally cloaked in darkness. Would have loved to have seen a few more seconds of that.

How did Wayne get in when the city was locked down? Simple.. paracahute, boat at night, tunnels under the river, smuggled in in a food shipment... lots of other ways. NOT a plot hole in the sliughtest

Pretty sure a few people said this, but I agree. It was probably more for appeasing general audiences. Makes sense.
 
Perhaps I just missed it, but where was the hole-in-the-ground prison in the world? That was a thing that bugged me as well, how he got back from there into Gotham while bankrupt with no help from the inside.

I complained when I heard of the casting, but understood when I saw the movie. Why wouldn't he look at JGL's cool, competent sidekick character and Marion's sexy crazy bitch and think: I need to have them in my last Batman movie.
 
The more I think about it, the more I start to really dislike JGL's character. He felt like such a Mary Stu. He's created by the series' director, is super awesome at everything, with few flaws, and even gets to (possibly) become Batman!

Everyone says India but it's never alluded to within the movie.
 
Just came back from watching it.

Wowz. That was such a perfect ending. I had such a huge smile across my face when JGL entered the batcave.

I watched TDK yesterday, and I think i liked TDKR more. will have to bluray it and see.

I agree with this. It's really bizarre to be honest. His character is so lame and corny.
