The only thing I really disagree with Solo's impressions is that Bruce's arc got the screen time it deserved. For me it didn't get close to the screen time it deserved. Axe Catwoman and JGL's character and devote that time to Bruce and Gordon.

The movie was pretty good, not great, but boy will i be remembering this day for a long time - for reasons completely unrelated to the Dark Knight Rises.

So we went to King of Prussia, which is 2 hours away from my home, so we can see IMAX (which we learned they cut out the fucking previews so as they could fit the movie on the old giant projector stock, wtf?). Ok, we saw the movie, exited at 6:00. Got lost on the way back for a two hour detour, and when we finally found our way back and was only 25 minutes from home some asshole on 81N nudged us and we flew over the divider, into the other side of the highway, spinning, spinning, spinning, narrowly being missed by like six cars on our transit, slammed into the barrier wall on the entire opposite side of the highway. I broke two fingers i am pretty sure because I can't move them at all, it fucking hurts a goddamn lot, and I got a huge gash on my knee. Maybe I'll go to the hospital tomorrow.

The entire back on my car is totaled, the wheel wells all dented in, but I was like "fuck this shit, I'm going home, I'm only 25minutes away." Our car could still drive, barely, it was making all sorts of funky clicking noises. Both lights in the back were broke. And of course, only 1 minute from my front door, a fucking police officer pulls me over and gives me a $150 ticket for broken tail lights.

But yeah, Dark Knight Rises had a lot of problems but it was a fun film. But fuck today.

Thanks guys. I'm in Colorado here, have family going to Columbine High School three blocks away. So much sadness here today.

But fuck that guy. And butt fuck that guy. My whole family still is so excited to go see this, in a theater, with a bunch of scary strangers. Sunday matinee is our plan.

Honestly I hope the message of the movie is somehow soothing. Does that sound stupid? I don't know...

EDIT: Holy shit Amirox what the hell? I'm glad you're okay. Remind me how far from danger I actually was today, for which I am thankful. Get that medical help, man. Are you sure you should wait with broken fingers and shit?

Look like for two interesting cameos, one from a Northeastern Senator and another one from a famous football player in this film. Though there might have been others. Can anyone confirm?

I will, tomorrow, but it was so late by the end of this and I was so annoyed I didn't want to spend additional hours in the emergency room. It's just broken fingers and a gash, and while it hurts a lot, I'm not going to die from those types of injuries.

The main issue is my car. Goddamn, that's my only vehicle, and now I have to find some way to get back and forth to work on Monday, 'cause no way they going to let me on the Army Depot with a car looking like this. Fucking blows.

I'll take some pictures in the morning of the damage, groooooan

Damn Ami, that sucks. I hope you feel better.

Thanks, I will.

As to the movie, my main problem is that it didn't feel particularly cohesive. I liked Anne Hathaway as catwoman, but I didn't really feel she enhanced any of the themes in the movie, and honestly I could have probably segmented her out and it would have been a tighter film for me. And also could have done without
imaginary ghost Ras Al Ghul, whatever on that shit
.

I actually liked Bane a lot, even though there was still a few lines nobody I was with could understand. Still, it was a lot clearer than the initial mix and it was all super menacing.

The best scene for me was
The first 1v1 BanevBatman fight, which for me is the best action sequence in all the films. It felt brutal, was the first really engaging fist fight I've seen in the series, and the dialogue from Bane was sick. Loved that part so much.

Edit:

And the best performance was Michael Cane as Alfred, goddamn

Why the hell did you leave the site of the accident? One that bad sounding? Get it on police record (at least for insurance purposes) and medical attention too. Do you know the make of the car that nudged you?

I mean, glad you're alright, but damn

Well the police have it on record now because they pulled us over and asked us all sorts of questions about how it happened and where it happened. We had stuffed the entire cars fender in the backseat lol

Really, the reason we left is because we were all frustrated and tired. We had got lost for so many hours and we were so close to home, we didn't want to wait for AAA or whatever on top of the awful events of the day.

Unfortunately, I didn't really get a good look at the car that nudged us... I just felt a really hard bump and saw the other cars lights, and then we were spinning so fast across the highway that I couldn't stop to make details out of anything. I just remember spinning around, everyone screaming really loudly, cars whizzing past and just barely missing us, and then our thudding stop on the barrier all the way on the other side of the highway.'

Edit: hah, it hurts to type

and the other car kept going...blaarrgh.

A quick impression:

Do not go into this film expecting a pulsating action dynamo like that of the Dark Knight or visual spectacle of the Avengers. As a whole, it coheres to the classic pyramidal curve of trilogies, where the first serves to introduce, the second to rise and escalate, and the third to envelope and enclose. Calm your heart rate down and sit comfortably; the film takes its time and ponders a bit before escalating. Its more deliberate and subdued atmosphere thus may not be a fit for a great many people. For this reason the action setpieces does not excite or thrill as its predecessors, but as a bonus all parts of the story has time to develop more cohesively and understandably, with better deliverance. If you have a bit more patience than normal the more you will be rewarded

Storywise, as others have stated, there are certain gaping logical holes still unplugged even after the film. A couple of characters show puzzling cooperation. Certain plans could have been much more different if they actually realized (and remembered!) the resources they have at hand.

One thing that must be broached. Bane's voice remains as atrocious as ever. Despite what other may tell you, at 2/3rds of the time his dialogue is still well niegh incomprehensible. The resulting detraction to the story's pace and atmosphere cannot be underestimated. More than a couple of times immersion was broken and effort was made to decipher his speech rather than enjoying the action.

I agree with a lot of this.

Loved it. Had some minor gripes with the ending, but I've come to terms that it's all indeed necessary, and has been built up throughout the movie. Going to watch it tomorrow again!

I had a ticket for the best place in the theater for the premiere. But, on morning I fainted, and I woke in the hospital. Obviously I have a mild brain fever or inflammation.

Visually I thought it was spectacular in IMAX, I liked the soundtrack the best in the trilogy also. Someone I went with said TDK was better, but I enjoyed both movies about the same.

I'm going to see this tomorrow finally. Want to take my missus but she hasn't seen Begins, and fell asleep during Dark Knight. But nonetheless she will be coming.

Does anyone know of any 'summary' versions on Youtube?

I love Nolan films - they always have me leaving the cinema thinking deeply about what I have just watched, and this was no different.

A lot more intellectual people than myself have already posted better write-ups than anything I could, so I will keep this relatively short. I realise this is a film for the people who prefers BB over TDK - it's pacing and story arcs are more akin to the first film than number 2. For some people that would resonate well, but for me, who preferred TDK, I felt this one fall a little short of my expectations.

Don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy this film - 8/10 material for me. But BB and TDK were something quite special, and I don't think for the majority of the film TDKR could keep up. I say majority, because the final 30 mins, and the conclusion, were utterly brilliant. But at no point did I think halfway through the film I am watching a masterpiece - something I felt for first 2 outings.

Anne Hathaway was very impressive, Bane was good (but not great, all his best lines and sense of dread were in the trailers). In fact I would say everyone played their role well.

TDK > BB > TDKR

How long do you guys think until we get another batman movie of some kind? Whether it be a reboot or whatever. Surely the franchise is too valuable now to let warner bros sit on it for almost a decade, right? I just want more batman :(

Probably not too long given how lucrative the franchise is.

The only thing I really disagree with Solo's impressions is that Bruce's arc got the screen time it deserved. For me it didn't get close to the screen time it deserved. Axe Catwoman and JGL's character and devote that time to Bruce and Gordon.
If anyone, Ms. Tate should have been axed. She was pointless.
Her Talia reveal was such a unnecessary plot device to tie Rises to Batman Begins. That reveal also weakened Bane's character for me. If Talia wasn't in the film, that would give more time for Selina and Bruce's relationship to develop instead of having two half-assed romances in the film.

And Alfred. I agree. The pieces were there to make this Bruce's film but they chose to devote it to JGL's unnecessary (for most of the film) character.

This film was inferior to the first two because to me it's only half a great movie. There's a lot of mess in this and unnecessary scenes. Frankly I felt bored at times. But there were great moments sprinkled in such as Alfred's speech to Bruce and
Bruce in prison/escaping

Of course the last hour or so is great though and I really liked the ending. Oh and that scene in the trailers when Bane is confronting Batman in the streets...God-damn like I said before Batman has never looked meaner. He was ready to kick ass and he looked like it. Also the first Bane and Batman fight is great and quite brutal.

TDK >=BB >>>>TDKR

Saw it yesterday.

I'm not a big Batman fan, but I thought the movie was terrible. Both as a movie and as a Batman movie.

Did not like it at all.

4/10

- Hate the reveal. Logic crush. Hurts Bane's character.
- Stupendously poor dialogue aside from a couple flourishes in some of the monologues.
- How do you have dialogue that on-the-nose and still manage to make it lack economy (be the director that directed the highest-grossing FOAT I guess)
- Nice pace despite this.
- Catwoman was incredibly flat. Blame the writers who felt that a twist in Hathaway's expression/4 surprise roundhouses was somehow cool to do 8 fucking times.
- Best acting moment comes in Bale's appropriately repetitious rage pleas for the trigger.
- So many unnecessary beats in this movie. Every. Fucking. Scene. Nolan has CB.
- Even artful scenes (such as the opening or the rather AWESOME football moment) faltered with timing or action beats.
- Nolan has that 'trying to be artful' feel in his shots. They're pretty, but unsurprising. Good use of color though.
- Sense of place opportunity blown in the third act.
- Flashbacks/cutaways suck, even for a second. The last one is so needless.
- I liked the Bane/Batman fight in the sewer. Great sound. Nice imagery around Batman's damage.
- AWFUL ending. AWFUL. It centers its emotional climax/truth/catharsis around the idea that a pre-teen's intuition is somehow greater than 12 million Gotham city citizens we're supposed to be caring about.

The flashbacks in this just felt so badly done. Which is bizarre considering how well he did it in Begins.

Almost just felt like fan-service bullshit.

I loved BB and TDK, but I just came back from seeing TDKR and I don't know... I thought it was pretty bad. Not horrible, but if I had to grade it I'd give it a B- if I was feeling generous, but probably closer to a C-. I didn't even have my expectations high and was still let down.

Most of my reasons for this seem to have already been mentioned numerous times, so I won't bother wasting up space here with too much of that. But basically...

-- Relationships between certain major characters aren't developed well enough for them to truly work.

-- One small scene in particular really took me out of the experience, mainly because it was so out of character for Nolanverse Batman:
Ra's al Ghul's ghost/whatever the fuck revealing Bane's history to Bruce in the prison.

-- Bane's voice was hilariously bad, I don't care what anybody says. He had a shitty anime villain voice that you could barely understand.

Maybe I'm just in a shitty mood or something. I'll rewatch it again when it comes out on DVD/Blu-ray, perhaps back to back with the previous films and see how I feel.

It felt like someone in the studio said 'How many years has it been since BB and the TDK? The audience won't get it.'

The final one was just redundancy at its worst. Ugh.

A C- is "pretty bad"? Do you review video games for a living by some chance?

OK. This thread's been very interesting with lots of discussion about the movie - very interesting at times in fact, prior to the spoiler-free reviews, but now it seems pretty difficult to read anything here without obtaining any spoiler somewhat. So, going to abstain going here until it's released in my country. Probably recommend others who haven't seen it yet to do the same.

My reaction when the credits started:

I made a short video with my phone of the audiance and my reaction when the credits started, you can't see much because I could not record the screen or anything because than I would get into trouble with the theater.
