Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Well, my first experience with guild wars 2 was definitely an interesting one. I have to say, even though i researched the game fairly well, it was a bit overwhelming at first.

One thing They really need to do is stick a weapon NPC in the tutorial where you can get access to all of your class's weapons (shitty level 1 weapoon). It was really kinda annoying not having the weapon that you wanted to use for a long while. Either that, or stick a weapon merchant in the starter zone right after the tutorial.

Controller was a huge success. I cant imagine using a KB/M ever again. The only annoyance was switching from camera to mouse function, but that isnt too bad. Still isnt muscle memory though, so there is some delay, but id imagine that would be similar for the KB/M at this stage for me

The only two areas that I tried out were the Norn and the Human (saving the others for the real game) And while I thought the Norn area was great, I was not a fan of the human one. Now, maybe I just have to get passed the crappy heart quest farm area, but man, those are some dull quests. Id much rather chill out with beast spirits than help out a bunch of farmers.

Engineer is definitely going to be my main. I liked it a lot. Still up in the air about the other classes. Im going to give guardian and Mesmer a fair shake tomorrow. Ranger was kinda cool, but my pet sure liked dieing a lot.

I was also dissapointed that I didnt get on GoM. I recommend gonig to another server for launch if that titan alliance stays there since no way are we getting all of GAF on there if they set up shop as well. And here i thought I would have to just deal with queues. I cant even play on the damn server!

Yeah, if GoM is like what it is now, no way I'm rolling on it. :( Steamrolling other servers and sitting in infinite queues is no fun at all.

I really like the map system.

I wish I could figure out how to get into WvW. I click to queue but nothing happens after that, I don't see any indicator for how long it'll take or any sort of confirmation that I'm currently in queue.

Do quests only advance with your contributions now? Bars used to fill up from other people too..

The renowned hearts only fill up with your contributions, but the events that happen are affected by other player's contributions. Thats how it seems to work, anyhow.

Before I logged earlier tonight I had just got to the snowy mountainous area with my Norn guardian, and I was certainly enjoying it enough. Then I found a greatsword drop...I think I'm in love.

I wish Necromancers didn't have such terrible aesthetics. I love minion summoning, life stealing capabilities, and debuffs from a gameplay perspective, but I can't stand how all my minions look like something a 15-year old would consider badass and that the iconography is overflowing with skulls.

Out of place question I guess but by chance is anyone running this game fine with a gtx 470 card? The game seems to overheat my graphics card and crash every few hours. The game has been doing this since closed beta...I figured the game might get more optimized as time went on and it would solve my issue but I guess not. Looks like I might have to either underclock or run the game in crap graphics. The game looks great and I get great fps other the random crashing.

Queues on every battleground so I tried structured PVP. Not bad, but I prefer WvW. Is the guild full? I got my info on the community thread but no invite yet. : (

OK guys, I just discovered something simple, but seriously useful and cool. Totally by chance, too.

You can open your Contacts window pressing the Y key... in the character selection screen. That's right, you don't even need to select a character to see who's online. How many times have you logged in with a character, loaded their zone, just to see who was online, then either switched to the character you want to play with them, or logged out because nobody was? Well, those times are over, folks.

I discovered it the silliest way possible: I had my Contacts pane open while I logged out to the character select screen, and it didn't close. :D

So from what I saw today it's clear that we need to figure out what server we need to roll during launch. If this is indicative of what's going to be happening during launch then we need to prepare for it. So... the GMs and officers need to discuss this sometime soon, yeah?

On a gameplay note: Mesmer needs a desperate tuning or something cuz right now it's one of the weaker classes due to its crappy illusions, phantoms, and shattering. Fix this please!!

No way in hell should we roll on GoM if it stays like this. A bunch of people couldnt even get in!

It's the first day of a packed near release beta event. A couple of BWE ago there were enormous queues too for WvW, last BWE I didn't even get to play much due to constant disconnects and all of that happened on Henge and we assumed were technical limits/issues. We have to think long term too and assume there will be pop drops after the first 2 weeks or so.

I'm not saying don't think it through, just consider other factors and maybe that other servers may carry other issues we are not aware of yet.

Don't know whether to make my human male or female at launch. The human female voice is kind of starting to grate on me and some of the animations are a little weird. But usually female characters end up looking the best at high levels in MMO's. So...=/

Yeah but if we choose a server and it gets full and the guild is spread over multiple servers, that's bad. It's better to choose a medium population rather than one that'll get full.

Questions:

1) Game feels very sluggish even on my desktop. Is it like this for everyone else?

2) Controls. WASD for movement is fine and all, but it just feels weird not being able to point and click where I want to go. Is there an option for this? I may have missed it.

3) Holding down both mouse buttons to move works better, but when I get into battle it get very clunky very fast. Although I am able to utilize both my skill bar and dodges better.

4) What's with the colours in the game? It isn't that important, but none of the colours are the actual colours that they're supposed to be on the creation page. And why is there no actual brown colour for eyes? 99% of the world has brown eyes o_o

Apart from that, I'm really enjoying the atmosphere, music and overall world. I just would like to be able to move around better and actually be useful.

And I'm saying that medium pop server might turn out to be an empty server after a few months while the full server might become a medium pop one and then everyone will want to change again. I think this sort of thing is hard to predict accurately. We should at least leave behind the picking server by name stuff and if you really want to make the decision, really investigate into other factors.

1. It varies for me. Sluggishness seems to be caused more by lag than CPU/GFX performance this time around. Early on while server pop was Low the game ran smoothly (not everything turned up).

2. There's an auto-run option (default key R) if that helps. That way you just toggle it on/off and control direction by moving the mouse/camera.

3. Another option is to set up a controller. There's info in this thread on how to do it.

4. I think the colors might be bugged. It wasn't like that last time around and I'm positive there was a brown eye color option.

Yes. I'm not exactly on the best hardware, though. But I can drop below 10 FPS in a good sized crowd.

Game is still quite playable, but it makes me want a new PC pretty badly. Sadly I don't have the resources to get one of the caliber I'd like anytime soon.

So I can't click to move where i want to go? I'm seriously having a hard time just playing this game. WASD for movement, okay. Right click mouse for rotation...okay...1123456789 for skills?! how in the world am I supposed to run up to a mob, attack, dodge, heal, attack, all while still focusing on the enemy?

Sometimes I'll just be standing there, not casting anything and fighting with the camera/movement only to die a few moments later. Maybe it's because I haven't played PC games in ages, but I played a ton of MMO's in the past and never had this problem.

Now, i am not obsessed with graphics, i prefer gameplay over them but... What's up with much of the terrain and world details? They seem crafted with an axe, all squarish, without details and really, really bland.

I kind of like the graphic style from an artistic point of view, but i feel that the execution is poor, some of the animations especially, and details wise (except for some of the cities, they overall looks pretty good).

So far i am a bit disappointed, but the more i play the more i see potential. I hope they fix the performance issues, because me and many of my friends have framerate issues with really fast rigs.

Controller?

I use one and I think it works great

I only addressed the highest priority concern as of right now. I'm not choosing the server on my own and the officers, GM, and I will discuss it to see what is the best. It's an ongoing thing. I just noted the current issue at hand because it's the most blatant and obvious thing at the moment.

Also this high pop server is probably one of the worst of the high ones due to titan. Wouldn't be surprised if you could land on a high population server and not have queues.

edit: As of now All servers are high to full in population.

I honestly don't have much problem. Not sure what to tell you.Your 1 is your auto attack, so you dont need to keep pressing that. Your other abilites have cooldowns anyway, giving you plenty of time to move around.

I play a guardian, though, so most of the time I'm creating bubbles to push things away and flipping away to pop some cooldowns.

I don't really know how it works late game, but so far, most of the 789 skills are occasional cooldowns with decent duration. You shouldn't have to be clicking those constantly.

The point of rolling on Madness was to see what a high population server was like, Retro will tell you the same. I fully expect GAF to be on a mid-population server come August 25, judging by the populations from this beta weekend and if ArenaNet scraps anymore servers.

I've been mostly in overflow servers, but that was peak time. No lag or anything though despite being the UK and playing on a U.S. server. Flawless, to be honest, aside from one random boot from the game.

Necromancer is the kind of class a 15 year old would think is cool. I have nothing against the class, mind you, but I'm not sure what you expected when you picked a class whose whole purpose is doing gnarly things with the dead.

I might get flamed for this but I bought Tera Online to pass the time waiting for GW2 and somehow having played that game soured on GW2.

The controls now feel odd, the combat feels old, and man they still didn't optimize the game, getting a rather poor performance on an i5-3570, 8gig and Asus GTX670.

Got Xpadder installed, imported the file Diedus uses, but only some of the buttons work. I'm guessing it's because he's using a Dualshock? Help would be appreciated.

I'll agree with the optimization issues and MAYBE the combat, but literally everything else is better in Guild Wars 2.

Well, yeah, I was expecting terrible aesthetics and fun gameplay when I rolled it. I just wish I could put an elementalist skin over the class where I'm summoning energy daggers and ice elementals instead of horrors and spectral claws.

Ranger pets get better if you trait into them. Around level 12 my pet started kicking ass. Definately gave me more room to tear stuff up.

I'm in no way saying GW2 is bad it just feels weird to go back to it after a few sessions of TERA.

But yeah I see so many good things in GW2, I guess I'm ready for the real thing, will skip this beta event and wait for launch. I hope the game will run flawlessly by then. I remember GW1 ran smoothly on so many configs.

Since the entire purpose of this post is to ignite conflict, I'll try my best to snuff it out.

Tera has better gameplay because that's what the development and game itself is focused on. Guild Wars focuses more on story and massive dynamics.

I'd bet Guild Wars 2 is more fun to play because of the lack of a grind. I can't imagine playing TERA for just its combat.

1 month out from release and the game still runs like arse on both my computers. I have a HD5870 and a GTX670, I am officially worried for this game. It's going to have a disastrous launch of Diablo 3 proportions.

Quote me on this in 1 month.

Not sure if it's been discussed yet, but how's the new pet AI?

gw2 has the same grind .. dont get blinded by ad campaigns ;)

They only truly claimed to get rid of the typical grind of most MMOs today, which they stayed true to. There's a grind but it's hidden and can be avoided completely if you really want to.

TERA, on the other hand, has a more traditional grind. Not a bad thing persay, just different.

Flawless on my SLI 570s.

Quick question. Does anyone know when the GW2 support starts working today? Got a problem with my account and I just wanted to know when I can expect some feedback from them.
