Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

gw2 has the same grind .. dont get blinded by ad campaigns ;)

GW2 has no grinding, period. (least from what I've observed in the last 3 betas).

Anything and everything you can do in this game gives you exp. You don't have to go out of your way if you want to level. There's no monsters you have to grind on, no quests you have to do. Just do what you think is fun, and the levels will come.

Did a little testing... Turns out if I set the reflections to "Terrain and sky" it runs pretty well. On "All" setting I get major slowdowns.

1 month out from release and the game still runs like arse on both my computers. I have a HD5870 and a GTX670, I am officially worried for this game. It's going to have a disastrous launch of Diablo 3 proportions.

Quote me on this in 1 month.

Runs fine on a 4870 here, at least in terms of framerate, etc. I do get disconnected far too frequently, though.

God I'm so glad I bought this game. Also, I'm so glad you guys figured out that Gates probably isn't the best server to play on before being stuck there on launch, well done! Also, I'm so glad I took a week off work come launch week :D

This game still is so good. Even if you're alone, waiting for friends to come online, just freaking go sPvP and have a blast. Or discover Vistas. I LOVE the Vistas, they add SO much to the game for mmo players like me who like to discover unusual ways or climbing things. So proud I found both in Lion's Arch :D

Usually after playing a lot of "Betas", I somehow lose interest in a new MMO up to launch, but this game man. This game. 3 BWE's and I saw shit, I visited just 2 starting areas and like 2 cities (by which I mean actually exploring).

Oh, and starting off with a new race, but in an old starting area was a great idea. Much less crowded, and it's fun to play a tiny Asura between hordes of giant cats.

Only complaint would be performance in general, and the feeling of a lack of quests/events at times. Which is strange, 'cause I don't like super-fast repeating events either. Oh well, I'm sure I'll be fine, I just have the feeling some of my mmo veteran coplayers might not like this if it keeps being this way.

I like it so far. Mostly for the art style and the music. Great amosphere, and the rewards for exploration are nice. I like how you can just hang around and do what you want.

Runs fine on my i5 2500k OC @ 4.4, 8 gigs, 560 ti OC.

I'm really pleased that I signed up for a beta key now, this game is really something special. Sylvari thief was my first character for teaming up with Cad but the class is missing oomph really, the human engineer I started later seemed to damage more consistently.

Can't wait to play more!

Guild Wars is plenty of grind from what I've seen. They disguise it well but if you're killing 10 bats for a 'heart' mission you're grinding.

If a game has a leveling system that involves anything other than you just logging in it has grinding. :)

Still unhappy with the mesmer it still feels like a class which isn't finished. Guess I'll go elementalist like everyone else come release!

Those first two hearts you see when you walk into the Asuran starting zone might be the worst. (granted, I have only played Human so far)

Everyone rushing to golems/robots, clicking on them, just to fill the bar a bit more. A very impressive dynamic mission spawned, which involved escorting a NPC through an Asuran gate and battling a ridiculous number of enemies and finally a boss. I thought "wow, this is more like it!" Then I discovered none of that contributed to the heart nearby, and continued right clicking on things. :-/

I admire how well they're disguising grind and quests. They still exist but now they're in a form that makes me want to do them. When the personal story asked me to fill one gold heart, whatever they're called, it was cool just to be able to fill out all the map , markers, hearts and events I could find. Dynamic event? GOTTA DO IT!

Well, the heart made you move around on the field and discover awesome dynamic events, which is all they're supposed to do. Working as intended.

When I max out the game with all the options, my graphics goes into a red screen of death pretty quickly. Playing on medium with certain things slightly higher and with high resolution character textures, my graphics driver will die out once in a while then recover. Makes the same noise as when it full on crashes when it temporarily dies out though. At least I can actually play longer than 20 seconds with medium settings. Wonder if I should use an older driver since I'm currently on the latest one but this game is the first time I've seen a red screen of death.

Not really, the giant "DYNAMIC EVENT THIS WAY" on the corner of the screen made me move from the congested right-click-fest.

Ok people.

Reworked Engineer impressions?
I would be interested to hear the changes too.

Actually, a list of most class changes would be great. Would hate to have in my head "Engineers stink!" if the thing I disliked most changed.

I agree with you - there were enough people in the area to make that first one so very tedious. Luckily, you can quit working on that one, go wander around, and go back to it later if you want to get the zone to 100% completion. (EDIT: if you don't like the heart make sure you're submitting feedback about it!)

My goal for this BWE is to not suck so badly in PVP. I played on a PVP server in WoW and never did any PVP combat - I'm a total pushover. I know I enjoy the game, I know the class I want to play, I've picked a race, however I want to keep the rest of the content fresh for release. When I was in the Rift beta I leveled several characters and by the time the game actually came out I was completely bored with the starting area. So, that leaves PVP as the "new" thing for me to try.

But the different is the "grind" is consistent across levels, rather then increasing as you get towards the higher level content. Hence, why it's more fun.

I really only get tired of leveling once I have difficulty finding active events. Running from one to the other isn't a grind to me. It's a fun tidal wave.

Any list of changes? I'm playing engineer, but I haven't played them before to make a comparison.

I wish there were patch notes and class updates. So I'm not sure of what all changed. Just recall that Engineer was at the top of their list with an update because many of their traits were placeholders from BWE1.

It's a little discouraging reading all of the negativity in here. But, as with any occasion, people are quicker to post negative feedback than those that will post positive. At least until the beta is over and those in love start posting their positive feedback.

"Grinds" are in every game that has unlockable talents/skills/items. It just depends how fun they make them.

I love that I can roam around and not feel like I "have" to do something.

Also this high pop server is probably one of the worst of the high ones due to titan. Wouldn't be surprised if you could land on a high population server and not have queues.

edit: As of now All servers are high to full in population.

For comparisons, I rolled on Isle of Janthir which was med pop at ~4pm CT, and there was queues for the main WvW zone, but the other 3 fronts were open.

I didn't get a chance to play later that evening to see how the pop or queues changed. I'll check tonight and report back.

Yikes. 9:40 AM, and there's a queue on Gate of Madness for all 4 maps in WvW.

Yeah =(

Honestly though, didn't they pull a lot of servers? I'm sure they are testing how full servers will be and such. I'm sure it's somewhat telling of what things may come but I think this is a bottleneck test for their servers and overflow systems so what we see might not be what we get in the long run.

In general, you have way more people, and less servers.

Still not liking performance on this build. It's better than the first bwe, but that's not saying much. It's pretty much the same performance as bwe2 which was still way short of where it should be on high end hardware imo.

You get into a very subjective area when it comes to performance. You always have people with high tolerance for fps/performance dips that claim the game runs 'perfectly' on any hardware you can name. But that doesn't mean much. If I look at the actual performance of the game for me on what can only be considered very high end hardware (i7 3770k @ 4.3ghz, Z77 Pro MB, 8GB ram, Nvidia 670GTX/680GTX I have two machines) and the performance varies this greatly, I hesitate to call the performance even 'good'.

pve questing - 40-50 fps, 60 if the zone is totally unpopulated but typically dipping in the low 40's

pve city - 35-50 fps with constant dips

pvp wvw - 45 - 10 fps depending on the number of folks in a battle.

Compared with other mmo's this performance is not what I, nor would I hope anyone, would call great. TERA is a good example, which runs circles around gw2 in performance. I don't really enjoy the gameplay but you can't argue with it's performance. I really love everything about gw2 but this kind of performance will drive me away from it. I didn't spend $2500 in new hardware to have the performance of a mid-range rig.

As we get closer to release I have less and less hope that any of this will change. Especially when you go to the support forums and they keep copy/pasting the same 'we're trying to hand instructions to the gpu, click auto in the config and hopefully your performance will be better' response to every question about performance. Be real and give us an estimate on how "close" you are to being finalized on the optimization. Are you 90% there? 50%?

I have an i5-2500k, 670GTX, 8gb ram, and I have had zero performance issues so far.

Man, I'm missing one point of interest in The Black Citadel that might be broken. Anyone able to get the "Citadel Stockade" that's located in the middle of the Imperator's Core on the map?

Not sure who is on. Can Rasalom get an invite into the gaf guild?

I don't think anybody on can invite =(

I tried but not sure if I'm even doing it right lol

Check your guild tab? EDIT: newp, only officers and such can invite. Sorry.

what?
cause there is no golden question mark you talk to doesnt mean there is no grinding lol.
90% of the gw2 "events" are grind quests = kill mobs > progress the heart.

Yes. Every MMO, RPG, and now FPS or racing game, pretty much anything has a "grind". It's how they make that grind appeal to the user is what makes it different IMO. Of course there is a "grind" ... every single game has one. But this game is different, I don't feel the need to be forced to do something. If I want I can just go somewhere for the most part. Granted shit still kills you if you aren't high enough level but the 'grind' is well hidden. Seems more like an adventure game at this point. But I'm sure the time will come where I'll need to save X in order to purchase Y. That's just the way MMO's go ... and racing games, and FPS games, and pretty much all games in general. You can define anything as a 'grind' ... what matters if it's enjoyable.

Arguing over whether one exists is a pretty moot point and it's just arguing semantics. There is a grind, I think when people talk about it they are speaking of how it's hidden so it doesn't feel like one.

I'm obviously missing something from the
plants vs zombies
, tried it as a thief and got to the last dude (after about 10 deaths), all my armor was broken so no matter how much I tried to train he would 1 shot me

No doubt in my mind that's exactly what they're doing. Trying to keep worlds populated while pushing the limits of their hardware will help them come up with a good balance for launch.
