I don't know I would have liked that either. I guess we'll never know. Could have turned out amazing. But, like I said, I loved the final Batman/Joker scene. That's all I ever needed in my life to feel complete. The idea of going back again, I don't know, gives me a funny feeling. I guess even after being let down by this movie, I still believe in Nolan. He could have pulled it off.

If Ledger was still alive, I doubt Bane would have made it in. I don't think nolan was even familar with him, but had to search for a villian given the circumstances.
 
For the record, I don't think a Joker mention or nod in TDKR would have been in poor taste. Heath died, which was tragic, but the Joker didn't die. And the character existed long before Heath and shall ensure long after his passing, and will be played again by someone new in the future.

It's been 8 years. Who knows where the fuck Joker is. I'm sure he probably broke out a long time ago. Joker existed cause Batman existed. Batman is done; Joker was done.

With that said, second-viewing: OH MY GOD! Such a good movie! Definitely better than TDK! It was a bit too much to absorb in first viewing which is what made me like the rest a little more than this.

Now? It's on the top, baby! No superhero movie can come close. None! The build-up is best in the series, hands down.
 
when gordon smiles after he rubs the new bat symbol, i know thats supposed to mean that he knows wayne is still alive, but WHY does it mean that?

why would he assume wayne (who he saw explode) fixed it and not just someone else?

Maybe he is happy people like Batman enough to fix the signal. That and the statue scene basically cement the whole "Batman is the hero that Gotham deserves".

Besides its Bruce, this would be the 3rd time he would be coming back from the "dead". He was declared dead in Batman Begins for quite a while too. It's the most likely assumption that it was Bruce who fixed it because he knew that the mantle will be carried on by JGL.
 
-First half of the movie was better than the second half. To me, I liked the story focusing on Bruce and his demons. It was like Batman Begins all over for me.

-Too much shit was going on. WTF was up with the special forces guys? Such a totally pointless waste of 5-10 minutes or however long it was.

-I had my doubts about Anne Hathaway, but damn she was great. Also, I kept thinking of impure thoughts.

-Atom bomb gonna assplode in less than two minutes, but lemme hold on and kiss catwoman.

-I don't think we've been inceptioned when it comes to the ending. Fox hearing about the coordinates and seeing that look pretty much sealed the deal Bruce was alive.

It means that because:
- the symbol was restored after Bruce/Bats "died"
- the city memorialized Batman fittingly with a statue
- a fixed Bat signal is completely pointless without a Batman and the City wouldn't have done it

There really is absolutely no other possible person that put the symbol back other than Wayne. Had it been the City, Gordon would have known and wouldn't be looking at it like a 5 year old on Christmas morning.

Bruce reinstated the symbol because he knew Blake was going to take up the mantle.

It works because it sounds unmistakably like a well known voice which doesn't really fit the character at first, but as you get used to it, all the bad ass lines Bane has makes the entire combination click.
 
During the Bane/Batman first fight, the way his soldiers just stand there and watch with this "Yeah, Bane already won" look like they've seen this before. Like Bane goes from country to country, finds their hero, locks them in a cage with him and beats the ever loving shit out of them in front of his men.
 
So robin/nightwing fighting killer croc next film confirmed! Loved the croc line. With the forshadowing last film with bruce saying how will my suit hold up against dogs,it'll do fine against cats.

I think it was important to show external influence/help to Gotham in their crisis. Gotham was basically under hostage for months, you don't think American government would try to send in special forces to try and do something about it? The scene basically highlighted that the takeover was so hostile that even a group of special forces would've failed in that environment. The whole world was basically watching Gotham from the outside.

Best action scene in the entire trilogy. Almost the best scene overall.
 
Gordon will be SO disappointed when he turns the Bat symbol back on.

Batman Begins is a good movie, BTDK is a great movie, DKR is an good movie. I only watched the first trailer because I knew I was going to see this opening weekend. Where Rises falls short isn't isolated to a single scene.

The opening was flat. Wayne in isolation would have been an excellent opening but never really felt genuine. Then after 8 years of blaming himself for Rachel and Dent he comes out for a necklace. Then haphazardly finds out about Bane. That alone becomes motivation to come back?

Then he gets defeated and it just feels forced. The prison part was done well, but other then the initial Bane public act (football stadium) none of the rest of that arc had any resonance. It's hard to not compare to TDK, but every act of terrorism the Joker did made the viewer progressively hate him more and more. Bane on the other hand peaked with the football stadium.

The ending felt like a cop out. Either go one way or the other. Want to kill Batman the symbol but keep Wayne alive, that's fine. What was gained from faking Waynes death? Everyone he was close to still knows he is alive. The only difference between this and isolation is his house went to the orphanage. and the city saw batman sacrifice himself, but how does anyone know Wayne was dead? He said himself he didn't want people to know who he really was so that's out. Wouldn't it make more sense for him to fake his death as Batman then use the rest of his life helping others and loving his life. It's like Kenny Powers, but that was supposed to be illogical.

Also I had heard they had changed Bane's voice, did it sound so Sean Connery/Goldmember-ish before?

After 1 viewing I think a recut would go a long way to making it better. The parts are there but just doesn't flow together.

Which is how I'm sure Blake knows that Bruce is Batman. He had a clue who he can be when he walked into the orphan house, but he must've put two and two together.

Gordon, even if he knows who Batman is, never believed in Batman as a man and more as a symbol. He doesn't care who wears the mask or who is underneath it, unless Bruce shows his face himself and admits it. Bruce admitted who he is at the end by telling him about the coat he gave him. Gordon loves the innocence of trusting a man behind the cowl without thinking too much, or he might start calling him Bruce. Same with everyone else like Fox and Blake.

They talk about everything that happened as a result of The Joker's reign of terror on Gotham, but never bring up the guy who changed things. I'm not saying we needed it as fan service or anything or wink and a nod, but a simple line from the lead cop guy during the opening like "And we haven't had one incident like that Joker clown since that night".

I mean, Raz tried to blow up the city (though did anyone other than Batman know this was happening?) and scarecrow released the gas and cause a panic in the streets. Pretty big deal yeah. But The Joker killed off several city politicians and publicly threatened the city and blow up stuff on a daily basis. He had a much bigger impact on the city than Ras.
