Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

What's everyone's favorite weapon for Warrior? I'm really loving dual axes, but Great Swords and Hammers seem pretty cool, too.

I've soloed a lot as guardian, pve at least. It's pretty fun with the greatsword, had a good time acting like a caster with the scepter too.

GS and Hammer is so much AOE+Big damage, so fun, sincerely i didn't have in mind to roll a Guardian as an alt but after playing it this BWE i got in love with the profession. Tho i haven't study the Traits and Utility Skill to maximize the character :V

Yeah I've only gotten to level 8 and it's the only class I've played, really just running around exploring and having a lot of fun. I'm probably not going to get very serious about learning best builds and such for quite a while, would rather just play through at my own pace unlocking new traits / skills for each weapon then trying them out. I've heard good things about the torch, haven't found one of those yet though.

Getting used to the sword on the Thief. The AA skill does more damage compared to the pistol or dagger. I guess with the Sword/Dagger you have to anticipate the next attack before it animates, or use the skill on your first two hits, as it seems to activate faster on those compared to activating it after the third hit in the combo.

Sword/Pistol seems pretty nice for staying undamaged in melee. Put down the blinding powder field on the second offhand pistol skill and you can attack with relative impunity for a good chunk of time.

The stun on the third skill with the Sword/Gun is also useful for interrupting enemy special skills.

If you know an enemy mob uses a special skill, I would recommend saving it till they do it because sometimes if you just use it on AA's the enemy mob will just use the special while you are flurrying them, resulting in you taking uneccesary damage.

This is all PVE by the way. I haven't tried Sword/Pistol or Dagger in PVP yet.

This is a wonky little build I ran to some success in pickup Conquest games. It's not a lot of damage, but its a support Engineer build. You drop a lot of bombs and your bombs heal. It's not great at range, since your rifle damage isn't great. It's wonderful in group combat though. A lot of visual chaos, constant little heals, and a lot of survival.

Slick shoes is for the knockdown and speed boost. Flamethrower is mostly just to combine its F key skill with bombs for added burning damage.

I'm sure this has been posted recently, but my search skills deteriorate as the booze takes hold.

Does anyone have a guide for how to play with a Logitech f310? I've seen Hawkians wonderful guide for the 360, but I cannot translate.

I'm half way tempted to picking this up but the only class that interested me was mesmer and the new way they played in this, but last I heard they were buggy and a mess. Did this get fixed?

I saw this hat on an asuran scout:

WANT IT
NEED IT
ETC.

You need another Minor Rune of the Traveler on a different piece of armor. No idea where to get something like that, though, other than the trading post.

That makes sense. I guess I'll see if I can find another of those Runes somewhere.

What is +Magic Find anyways?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Magic Find is what increases the item drop rate, or it increases your chance to find rare items.

I feel the combat in this game, at least up until level 11 where I stopped, is way too frantic. Everything either dies in under five seconds unless it's a boss, it seems. The combat seems to lack a bit of impact, too. I mean, the animations and sound effects are there, but it doesn't always feel like you're connecting with the enemy. I also don't like how it seems kind of half-assed target based/proximity based. For certain ranged abilities with long cool downs, it's rather difficult to tell if you will actually hit your target or not.

It's lvl 10, I can't think of any other MMO where regular mobs don't die quickly that early.

Cause you don't always actually connect just cause you fire off a skill. Stuff can move outta range, use a defense ability, or evade.

I can think of plenty. And "quickly" is one thing, stuff in this game is obliterated in under five seconds even solo.

My Asura is so kawaii.

I think mine turned out pretty cute... all things considered.

This on the other hand...

Holy shit, that looks awesome.

Well, imagine if a regular mob were 25 seconds each to kill it at the starter zones, people will QQ about it being too hard.

I guess I'm in the minority then. I'd much rather have meaningful combat than the throwaway stuff we have in GW2 at the low levels. It really feels like nothing matters when things die so quickly. Tactical decision between blinding a guy or poisoning him? Who gives a fuck. Knock him down for 1.5 seconds on an ability with 30 second cool down? Whatever... Just hit all your buttons and make the mobs explode. All the boons and buffs I had on my Guardian really didn't feel like they were doing much either. I tried turning everything off and couldn't tell the difference at all.

Also, the two big boss mobs I faced in the world also had these crazy PBAOE abilities that would hit their immediate surroundings make it so melee classes could pretty much watch from afar or run up close and die.

Well, I certainly like the visuals, presentation, and exploration aspects, but the combat just seems bad to me. Maybe it's good in PvP? Maybe Mesmer and Guardian just aren't fun at low levels? I don't know.

So, how are you guys making money in this game? I finally reached level 11 on my warrior and I am about 5 silver short for my training manual. Thats so sad. I havent bothered with the trading post at all, so maybe thats the answer to my problems

Did a little crafting, and while it is definitely useful and the gear is really good, the rare items for the insignias definitely are rare. I blew through those rather quickly. Next time I think i will plan out my crafting in a way so that I minimize using those while still getting the discovery bonus

Have you been selling stuff? I had like 25 silver when I reached level 11. I never really bought anything but bags, though.

Yeah i agree that some 1-8 enemies go really fast, tho after 10 i encountered enemies where i can use 3 skills from one weapon and go to the next one to kill them, so i guess that the more high level, the more resilent will be the enemies and we will need to use all the set of skills.

Have you tried greatsword and hammer Guardian? I'm having a blast with them and dont have problems with the big bosses, some abilities are annoyin but i just dodge out and go in when the boss have his ability in cd(this is from my experience with the asura and sylvAri area tho)

---------

Im 16 with 30silver just selling junk, items that i dint need and events.

Made me remember at the bwe1 when i got to lvl11 and couldnt afford the trait book because i didnt know that the event givers gave money reward by mail D:

Ive been scrapping it for materials. Well, guess I wont be doing that on release. My crafting can just sit on the back burner for a while while i gather it the slow way

I haven't played any of the beta except for the 6 hours or so in the character creation screen, lol. I have all of my character's appearances screen capped during the sliders. I also created an excel sheet for all of the profession and race related questions too. Anyone else do the same?

Are you checking your mail after you complete hearts? I know some people miss the fact that you get mail with coin every time you complete one.

I haven't had issues with buying my manual at 11. I was able to get it with a few silver to spare, but then again I haven't done any crafting at all.

I understand what you mean. Combat is kind of floaty. For now mobs die really fast. Boss mobs require that you play ranged. If you go melee you will be instagibbed. One cave troll elite had some kind of aoe move that downs you in one hit, there's no visible indication when it goes off so there's no reliable way of avoiding it other than using ranged only.

Whether to apply poison or bleeding doesn't mean much at the moment. Perhaps it does in PVP or higher levels where you can use talents and armor/weapon mods to buff certain types of damage.

After playing TERA Online I do kind of look at other MMO's combat differently. It's hard to top I guess. I don't think GW2 reaches it but it's decent in its own way. I would of liked if it followed more like GW1's style while adding the necessary improvements and such but Arenanet has a different vision for what the GW1 sequel should be.

They did a wonder on pets. They're so much more responsive. But they removed the corny announcer's catch phrases from structured pvp!

"You captured the keep. Keep it."

"You couldn't keep the keep."

"Do I have to draw you a picture?"

All gone. :(

Good, that shit was horrible.

You need to use AutoHotKey- I have steps on how to do this in an old post, lemme dig it up

Here's the post. It has instructions, a link to AHK, and the script you need.

Thanks, I downloaded and it worked perfectly. I have been getting used to the gamepad controls and I definitely prefer it, once I have it down to muscle memory it will be a no brainer. It just feels a lot more comfortable in the middle of a heated battle.

Now commencing: Sunday morning.

My life is already dead.

What's everyone's favorite weapon for Warrior? I'm really loving dual axes, but Great Swords and Hammers seem pretty cool, too.

I like the sheer feeling of impact I get from the hammer and the screen shaking. The sheer damage output doesn't seem all that amazing compared to greatsword or dual axe though =/.

You can make a lot of money just selling crafting materials on the trading post. If you haven't already, make sure you gather every chance you get. Mining is especially profitable because copper is always in really high demand. And don't forgot to salvage everything you can. I've been salvaging all my old gear, and any gear I can't use so that I can sell the materials on the trading post. The rule I use is I'll salvage something unless it sells to a NPC for more than 20 copper. Any less, and I find that I can make more money off the materials.

I already have over 1 gold after just one day of playing, and I haven't really even touched crafting during this beta. Crafting will probably become very profitable at higher levels, but if you want to make money quickly, just selling the materials you find on the trading post is a good start.

I think the combat is really good. It's not accurate to say it's like every auto-attack MMO ever. You don't even need to target, though you can and it can be helpful. When I'm going HAM with the flamethrower on my Engineer, I don't target. I just spread out the cone of flames back and forth over groups of enemies. It plays close to a TF2 Pyro, which is something you wouldn't be able to do in your typical atuo-attack/auto-target MMO. Same thing with my Mesmer and his sword attack, I don't always target when fighting groups. It has a sweeping animation to it and thus a sweeping strike, so I just sweep through groups of enemies.
Maybe I'm playing the wrong class? Elementalist has a handful of targeted hotbar abilities, your first spell which I guess is an auto-attack, and a smattering of AoE circles. Pretty standard fare for traditional MMOs. Are all of the Engineer and Mesmer skills like the examples you gave?

You just miss your lolis.
Nah, I was able to make a kawaii waifu in this game.

The Thief's 1st Dagger skill should be an auto-attack, no?

My Thief seems to swipe once and just stand there. I have to keep pressing the hotkey for them to attack

Ele is pretty boring in my opinion. Engineer is way more interesting.

agreed. I found ele to be the dullest class ive played so far, though I am not a fan of casters to begin with. Engineer, Ranger, Necro and Warrior were my top classes

Well, these weekend definitely did decide a few things for me

Charr Engineer
Slyvari Ranger
Asura Necro
Norn Warrior

I havent even touched the Charr, Slyvari and asura areas so all that will be completely fresh. Ill probably level up the engineer and the ranger at the same time

Now I just need to figure out WvW tomorrow. First time I stepped in there was a disaster since it was basically me and a few other dudes versus a horde of Titan Alliance peeps. Not fun at all

So far warrior dullest to me. Has 0 interesting mechanics. To me Ele has one of the coolest and unique ones, though wont' be playing Ele release.
