When can we expect this son of a bitch to hit Blu-ray?

EDIT: Dark knight came out second week of december. Damn that's far :(

I want the trilogy box set to be something cool/dumb and come with a bazillion extras. But knowing Nolan it will only be the same stock extras he always does. Make the boxset a 1/6th replication of the tumbler.

Each time I rewatch TDK, more and more things in the movie start to piss me off. So many internal inconsistencies and poorly scripted stuff which don't hold up when putting it all together. Once you notice the problems, the editing is so bad it's impossible to not feel disappointed at how it falls apart on analysis.
And yet even on my rewatch earlier today I saw more subtle hints at post 9/11 fear and hysterics and analysis that I didn't notice on other viewings. Maybe they're not all intentional and I'm connecting some of these dots myself, but the film covers so much ground that its rife with different meanings. And at the same time its a fast moving action thriller regardless.

Its pretty close to perfection in my book even with its issues.

I think that's why I liked TDK a lot, it felt more like a crime saga with superheroes in it. I hope TDKR is more like that.

One thing about this series that drives me batty is that they try to make it gritty and realistic, but they are hampered by having to hit a PG-13 rating. No blood or wounds, they always cut away during violent scenes. It just kills the movies for me on repeat viewings, I wish they could be given free reign to go all out with an R rating.

The scene where Joker hires Gamble's henchmen would never have had the same impact if they actually showed us what happened during the three way fight with the pool cue.

A friend of mine just texted "The only good thing about TDKR is the Superman teaser".

I'm not sure I still consider him a friend.

Yeah, I agree with that. I mean stuff like when the joker shoots the banker in the opening scene, you see him react but no blood or bullet holes.

Saw this last night and it's easily the weakest of the 3 movies. It was far too long and for a movie with so much dialogue, it was not a well written movie, it felt like I was watching a video game at times. Not a bad movie, just not as good as 1 and 2.

I'm only gonna do the top 2 tiers:

God Tier:

Batman Begins
Spider-Man 2
The Dark Knight Rises

Great Tier:

The Avengers
The Dark Knight
X2

Fuck the rest.

I was with you until Dark Knight Rises. That goes into the "Good" tier for me.

Solo and I were BB bros, but I fear we'll never be on the same page about TDKR.

God tier? TDKR is just a film lost in the mad scramble for fan gratification.

BB is legendary.

Word. I am curious to see the movie again to see if my opinion changes, but I still have this feeling of disappointment running through me from the midnight showing. Perhaps a matinee or just wait for the Blu.

It does confuse me that a movie 10 minutes longer than TDK is far too long.

True, I actually noticed this when I rewatched it. That guy would have been bleeding out like crazy from that many gunshots. It's a little distracting.

How violent/dark is TDKR compared to TDK? Anything resembling the pencil trick or the ball cue scene?

Nowhere near as violent. It just never felt as brutal or unsettling in the violence as TDK did. Too many cut aways to something else only to go back to seeing a body or something. It just cheapened a lot of the stuff.

Not really. Bane's style is just pure power

You mean like the famous "Let's put a smile on that face" scene, where the camera cuts away and we just see Gambol fall dead because a cut to the mouth is instantly fatal?

I'm sorry, I still don't get the "way too long" stuff. Doubt I ever will.

Movie flew by lightning fast. Was over before I knew it.

True. It went by even quicker the second time. I mean the fact that I went to see this again the next day says something. I love TDK as much as the next guy but I only ever saw that once at the cinema. I was not bored at all seeing it for the second time in under 24 hours

Speaking of which (very mild TDKR spoilers)
When Daggett's neck is broken, what's up with him screaming after? Wouldn't he die instantly?

Not sure.
I would assume Bane took his time with Daggett, since the movie had no problem showing him snap several necks.

I must be the only one that didn't really care for Batman Begins but really liked TDK. I haven't seen TDKR yet, I'm not sure if I'm going to like it...Nolan movies are hit or miss for me.
You're not alone. I absolutely hated Begins but loved TDK as well as TDKR. I still hate Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman...but ive warmed up to it a bit over the years.

Because it's nowhere near cohesive an experience as TDK. Even with the somewhat superfluous HK sequence, the minutes just fly by in that movie. With the TDKR, there's a slow beginning introducing all the various characters and their sub-plots, then there's the long, long, LONG middle section of Bane setting up his fake dictatorship.

You liked Ultimatum more than Supremacy?

Yeah. Loved them both, but liked Ultimatum more. It just felt more focused and polished. Also loved the reveal of when Ultimatum took place.
Most of it occurred in the middle of Supremecy. Spoiler tagged for those few that have not seen it. And this is not a Bourne thread.

so it outdid TDK. But what about the Heath effect? People don't really care about Batman

A fairly disappointing estimate, but it's expected considering the murders. We'll see if the movie recovered a bit on Sunday with WB's actuals.

And the second weekend for this should be pretty impressive.

But sold less tickets if the numbers are accurate.

And the horrible shootings did have an effect on the opening weekend, but I also think that the fact that it was just not as good as the previous movie didn't help it either. Second weekend will be interesting, but not as huge as many think.

I'm frankly offended that Solo is putting BB over Spiderman 2 and ignoring Spiderman 1 in the "good" tier.

He's a Frrreak

Solo alternates between BB and Spidey 2.

The only thing I remember from the Raimi movies was Dunst's wet shirt.

And JJJ right? Right?! And the great villains (from the first two) and the Campbell cameos and the humor and the action scenes etc.

But yeah. Dunst gets a lot of shit on GAF for being "ugly" but she was so fine in Spiderman 1 in the rain. GOD DAMN

Not sure if the general audience agrees with you (I do). This movie's a huge crowd-pleaser. If anything, I'd expect this to have longer legs with more casual film fans.

Raimi Spider-Man is better than the new Spidey, by far imo, the only thing that is better in the new version is Emma Stone, she's amazing.
