They're all excellent professions. They all scratch different itches for players. I've found Warrior to be one of the most enjoyable. Last BWE I managed to get my Norn Warrior to 30+. This time around, I've got a 20+ Asura Thief I'm enjoying. So far warrior dullest to me. Has 0 interesting mechanics. To me Ele has one of the coolest and unique ones, though wont' be playing Ele release.
Maybe I'm playing the wrong class? Elementalist has a handful of targeted hotbar abilities, your first spell which I guess is an auto-attack, and a smattering of AoE circles. Pretty standard fare for traditional MMOs. Are all of the Engineer and Mesmer skills like the examples you gave?
Nah, I was able to make a kawaii waifu in this game.
agreed. I found ele to be the dullest class ive played so far,
Definitely, definitely, definitely playing sylvari ranger at release. Super interesting race and starter zone, along with ranger suiting my support/defensive playstyle. I was exploring The Grove and its areas (apologies if I've got it wrong), without any boredom. And then I sprinkled the main quest around the exploration.
Asura didn't really resonate with me. The dialogue was good - even funny - but the personal story was boring, to me, personally. Also played Elementalist, which was dully. Granted I didn't hit double figure, but Ranger and Engineer - my two favorite classes - connected instantly.
Ele is pretty boring in my opinion. Engineer is way more interesting.
I'm half way tempted to picking this up but the only class that interested me was mesmer and the new way they played in this, but last I heard they were buggy and a mess. Did this get fixed?
Okay answering:
It's still the roughest feeling class design out there right now. There was a bug with a trait line and Illusionary Leap, but they fixed that. There's still bugs with other traits and blink still bugs you into a stuck animation pose for a second or two afterwards (though you can still move).
There's some interesting and unique things about the class, but I'm not sure its as unique as the Guild Wars 1 version. The main issue is that the class mechanic sort of turns it into a minion bomber and pet class.
The blinks and portals teleporting are probably the coolest thing. I always enjoyed using the sword. It's a neat little magic swordsman class with a mainhand sword. You swap places with your clone, distort your body while slices through the air and hit pretty damn hard for a caster melee fighter. Portal also allows you to teleport large groups of people and that's something no other class in the game can do.
But there's a lot of problems, probably more than any other class in the game. There are certain elements of the class mechanic design that will put the class on crutches if they remain, and due to it release in about a month, those things will likely remain. These are issues that can't be fixed with number balancing or trait changes. They are issues with the very mechanics of the class.
I'm a little scared to rolling though, at the class select screen, some have cool normal armour, and some have the weird leaf stuff, I wonder if that's more class based or just a random choice of what they show. I'd hate to level a cool looking Sylvari Eng wearing cool normal clothes, then get some top tier pvp set that's all leafy![]()
Several misconceptions there:
1) All armor is non-race specific, including PvP. you might get a default PvP set that's slightly different for each race, but anything you get is non-race based. In fact, it's not even class-based; cloth, leather and mail armor is usable by all professions using that type of armor.
2) The "leafy" outfits are actually regular outfits with some clever colorization.
3) There's no "top tier PvP" set (thankfully). You get sets that are either different looking and/or have stats distributed differently.

Can anyone add me to the euro guild?
Maleficence.8569
I thought there were some sets that were race specific but most were not. Just so people could get the look they wanted and use transmutation to keep it etc.
Did everyone just get kicked out of the game?
I haven't had issues with buying my manual at 11. I was able to get it with a few silver to spare, but then again I haven't done any crafting at all.
any op pvp builds i have to try in this beta?![]()

Anyone have any ideas on the state of balance in this game at the moment? I'm seriously at odds ends as to which class to play. It's either going to be a mesmer/elementalist/guardian or warrior. I seriously can't pick.![]()
How do you get decent weapon and armor for WvW? Or I am stuck with the stuff that I came with? Went there as a lvl 2 necro, and man, did i feel useless even with the bump to 80 since my gear was crap

If you are in WvW, there are NPCs that give you maxed out pvp armor and weapons. They only work in PvP.
They have the same level though, and are just slightly better than the standard gear for you level. If you're talking about the same vendors I know of. The maxed out "only PvP" armor is only available for sPvP, not WvW. Correct me if I'm wrong.
For those that have Pinnacle Game Profiler instead of Xpadder or have not yet picked a third party solution to making the gamepad work for Guild Wars 2, I've created a profile for PGP and am hosting it indefinitely. It assumes you're using an Xbox 360 gamepad. Unlike the other solutions, you only need this software... no Autohotkey required.

Hope this helps folks in need. Melee classes are a freaking blast with a gamepad. I said it before awhile back, but thanks again Hawkian for getting this possibility into my head in the first place.
AWESOME! I didn't know where was any app out there that could handle the right-click hack in addition to the other duties. For those that have Pinnacle Game Profiler instead of Xpadder or have not yet picked a third party solution to making the gamepad work for Guild Wars 2, I've created a profile for PGP and am hosting it indefinitely. How much is Pinnacle? Gamepad user pay attention to this post!
It's $24.99, so it's a bit pricy for gamepad software. But it's really good at what it does.AWESOME! I didn't know where was any app out there that could handle the right-click hack in addition to the other duties.

edit: @above, I can't got back either. It feels really second-nature to me now, and when I get into a groove leaned back in my chair (or playing on my projector screen from bed) it's really just bliss.
Is anyone else finding dynamic events in large groups to be a bit too much "chaos"? As in when large groups of enemies start charging in I find my Warrior just likes to run in and start swinging away wildly with a 2-hander.
I don't feel combat in this regard is any sort of good. Enemies die too quickly to try any kind of real tactics - everyone just spams every AOE and stuff dies fast. Is this fun for anyone else? Zerging in events?
I find 1v1 fights against higher level mobs far more fun than dynamic events that end up as zerg fests. About the only time I had fun in an event was a boss of some type which required me to watch what the boss is doing and react. During "wave after wave" dynamic events I just spam whatever AOE attack I have if it's off cooldown and rarely pay attention to my health, dodging, etc since they don't seem to matter. Knockdowns, pins, hamstrings, conditions, etc don't seem to matter much when all enemy AI groups up and dies in a few seconds - hardly enough time for a condition to make a difference.
I dig the combat 1v1 when stuff doesn't die quickly - but I'm finding events with massive amounts of players to be "meh". Every time I see a new event popup I let out a sigh since I know I'll more than likely have to participate in another zerg which doesn't test my skill - rather - is just a game of "whack a mole" when a big damage button lights up.
I doubt any of this will change before launch - is this just the nature of the beast? Large zergs where I don't feel like I make any sort of real impact despite earning the highest medal for contribution to an event?
I haven't been through any 5-man content yet but am hoping it is the exact opposite from dynamic zerg-fests.
This is honestly the only fault I give to the game which more than likely is due to the fact of there being a ton of people playing the same space at the same time since most people are roughly the same level going through the same content.
Had a blast last night doing way too many jumping puzzles with some gaffers, and participating in the battle of Wychshire Swamp. It cemented my purchase of Guild Wars 2.
More gaffers need to hop on Mumble. It gets rather quiet when we're all absorbed in what we're doing.
I'm a bit annoyed at the Ranger because despite having an awesome collection of skills, you're a bit let down by the fact that your pet is obscenely stupid. In a game like GW2 where most of the enemies have cleave, AoE skills and dodging is a huge part of the gameplay, as a Ranger I spent about 50% of my time rezzing my dead pet.
