Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Anyone make a good ranger greatsword/bow build? Or other good ranger build? I wasnt really liking any of mine that I can up with (only tested on the dummies)

I can never get into WvW, how are you guys doing it? I queue for at least an hour and nothing.

Queues don't seem to work period. Thing is anyone who is spamming to join will bypass queues, since some reason it accepts people from there before looking into the queue.

If you really want in you gotta spam the join.

I was redoing my sylvari... and I didn't notice they glowed in the dark. One of their color options wasn't working for me the first time, and that's cause I didn't switch to no lights. Turn off the no lights and that color slowly brightens and dims.

Honestly, ArenaNet should probably set lights off as default in character creation for sylvari. I noticed it mostly because I spend way too much time in character creation and have to adjust every little detail and get everything perfect, but I can see how a fair number of people wouldn't notice. People are not so inclined to reroll during retail.

Yeah I thought it was broken until friend saw it when playing at night, he also thinks it's related to when you chose you were born so you glow then, not sure agout about that but could be,

Alright GAF Guildies, I have a PvE proposal for when the game goes live August 25th to really give massive boosts to our influence in order to give us goodies and advantages:

- As a guild, we individually leave aside a starting area for us to group together in (e.g., Norn Starting Area and surrounding Norn leveling zones). This means that, as a general rule, GAFers will be encouraged to 'solo' all of the game except for one race's zone (Norn in this example).
- Every night or at designated times during the week (e.g., Friday night, 10pm EST or every night 10pm EST), we GAFers get together to zerg the designated starting zone (Norn in this example). Since we'll be grouping together, we'll get several advantages: content goes down faster, but more importantly we'll get massive amounts of guild influence by simply being in one another's presence in doing events / hearts / challenges / exploring. Obviously, the guild coming together to form a tighter community is another advantage.

This will get us a large amount of influence if we can pull this off. We can shift our focus down the road to doing dungeons together instead of a certain racial starting zone as we all level up as well, making sure our influence gain is constant. In other MMOs we wouldn't be able to conceivably put aside a starting zone for all of us to zerg at once at designated times, since peoples' levels would be all over the place. However, the downleveling system makes this idea very possible and we'd be missing an opportunity not to get all the influence we can by utilizing the mechanics.

Now I'm unsure what race I want to be release. Norn females look pretty awesome, and I like sylvari alot. Trouble is sylvari are really... busy when it comes to their bodies. So their clothes get kinda... lost among all what's going on. Seems none of the clothes fit them.

I was going to be Norn but I don't like how they look to be moving slowly due to their size. That was the deal breaker for me, so I'm going with human.

Figured while a couple of other people were uploading pictures, I would too. I'ma stay up for the final beta event & try to grab a few as well.

This particular picture was last moment from a vista. I really love that feature they implemented. Arenanet is super awesome for doing so.

Had a fantastic run in WvW all day, including some clutch moments where a 3 man strike team took down extremely protected trebs positioned on top of the jumping puzzle in the Battlegrounds ruins.

Having devoted my whole weekend to the beta I managed to get my Sylvari engineer up to level 40.

I think the fastest way to level is crafting by far. I only got 100% in one area, however I got up to 240 in cooking, 180 in jewel craft, and around 50 in another 3 professions. Jewle craft was my focus and with the money I got from selling at the outpost leveling cookery was quick and easy (given you can buy most of what you need from vendors for cheap) and the amount of exp I got from it was ludicrous.

Engineer was pretty fun, I used turrets in pve and focused on rifle/elixirs in PvP with my traits focused on power and crits. Seems like I could take people down really fast though However I feel tools are pretty useless along with the ultimates, so I'm not too sure what I'll roll when it comes to release. Outside of the wvw issues I had a great time in the beta, can't wait for the release next month.

Question for you since you mentioned multiple professions. I know that you can only have two active at one time, but what happens if you switch one out and return to it latter? Do you still keep the progress you made, or do you have to start from scratch? I avoided this during the BWE and just had the different crafts on different characters.

My FPS tanked hard in WvWvW, like 25 fps. Wish you could actually set your graphics settings for WvWvW apart from everything else.

I can confirm this. According to fraps, my FPS was 60 literally everywhere until a huge WvW fight, then it drops down to like 20-25 with some lag to top things off.

I should probably run that swamp world event one more time, just to compare.

Where's the beta event?

Metrica Province, I believe.

You keep your level in all professions when switching.

I'm amazed at the scale when you look out into the distance and amazed at the attention to detail every inch of the world has. I can't recall the last time I had this much fun exploring - the sense of scale is astounding.

Seeing the beautiful screenshots here makes me sad. Game looks like trash on my computer compared to some of them.

And I get low frame rates at those settings to boot. This game makes me want a new PC.

I like the idea, but I think only doing it it like once or twice a weekend is a good idea. With work and all, I really dont have a whole lot of time to play during the week, and I dont want to spend that time doing the norn area in a gigantic group. Once a week though would definitely be cool

I love the idea and something we've talked about behind the scenes (not exactly this idea) but more so, doing a lot more to further the guild within itself to build a more tight knit group. I do love this though and honestly the Norn starting area would seem the best as not as many people like the Norn over the other races, or at least that is what it seems like.

26.5 hours played this weekend. 49 SPvP games played. I've tried every class now, and I think I may actually like Mesmer the most. Which is funny because before I ever played the game, it was the one I was least interested in. But it's combat is so active and you have so many cool spells. Plus I think there's a lot of depth to the class and potentially a lot of different ways to build.

Fun Tier 1: Mesmer, Warrior, Ranger

Fun Teir 2: Guardian, Thief

Fun Teir 3: Elementalist, Necromancer, Engineer

In terms of my enjoyment at least.

Well, I'm off to bed. Gotta get up early so no closing event for me.
I'll have to post some screenshots in the morning.

...

It's gonna be a long month.

Kinda funny you think mesmer is fun cause it's active and some many spells yet you but ele last. Ele is the epitome of tons of spells and twitch gameplay.

One thing I don't like about thief is they don't really have to do any weapon switching at all. All other classes use weapon switching to bypass cooldowns, thief doesn't have cooldowns so they don't have to. One hand it's nice, but other it makes thief gameplay really easy.

I find myself doing a lot of switching in PvE, because a lot of my statusing and AoE comes from the shortbow. Then I switch, shadowstep in, do my thing, shadowstep out, rinse repeat.

Not saying you can't, but I don't think there's a high of benefit.

Mainly played Asuran Engineer this BWE, though I haven't played as much as I would have liked (stupid work). Really enjoyed it, and the Asuran starting zone is probably my favorite. I've had a blast with all the classes, though I'm leaning towards a Ranger I think. The HoM ranger pets I've unlocked makes it even more enticing.

Framerate was pretty bad in the Asura starting area. My first time checking out anything besides Norn. This might be the first mmo since I started playing them so many years ago, where I might make a small race, at least as an alt. I normally can't stand them, these Asura though are hard to resist.

The only problem I had, was my ears would bug out while fighting and in npc conversations, hopefully that gets fixed. I like their dodging and run animations. Shame you can't dodge non stop heh.

Did a bit of WvWvW and it was... not that great? it felt like they understood what made RvR in Dark age of camelot work, but failed to implement it correctly. Biggest problem was that the map was way too big, resulting in loads of traveling, simply to be stomped in the ground by the bigger opposing group. At least DAoC gave certain classes the option to vastly improve runspeed to cover distances quickly.

Im sure i was missing certain intricacies of it, but so far not impressed. Which is fine because i dont really care for it anyway, and the PvE is pretty fun.

Did anybody else just lose their server connection? No winner of the Hunger Royale?

Ya thing they shut it down.

That needs to be a real mode period. Though with it... not sure how you'd run both WvWvW and it at the same time wouldn't be a big enough population. They'd have to make a whole new smaller map.

Man, if they make this an permanent event, i would love ArenaNet, so awesome, DayZ vibes <3.

Awesome concept but still need polishing.

Would be more cool if when you die, you can res like different type of robots, the Support one that drops ammo and make a shield, a kamikaze one and a killer one.

Or also a mode where you go vs Thralls instead of humans! OH ~

This end event wasn't planned out very well :\

The hunger mechanic just puts you in combat 100% of the time making you move like a snail.
And why can you die as a robot spectator!?!

Making me run around trying to find and support my team members every time i accidently run into an enemy is just annoying now
