Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

It's really interesting that there's this great gap in leveling speed between players. I am not sure what is causing it. Dynamic Event activity can explain some of the difference, but nearly everything you do grants experience. I wouldn't figure a lower DE activity level would suddenly stall progress.
My first Asura during the very first mad hour rush of BWE3 opening had tons of DEs spawning everywhere, while my second one barely had any.

It's really weird.

I was on my old pc.

Core 2 duo
HD 4870
4gb memory

It ran very well even in WvWvW. Surprisingly enough, it ran better than last time. =)

Except for Friday when the everyone was in the same part of the starting area, the whole weekend ran about 50-70fps for me.

My comp:
i5-2500k
GTX 480
8 gigs RAM
Game installed on SSD

My settings were all maxed 1920x1080 except:
- Shadows: Medium (only 4 fps increase from shadows being on High so I might just go with High on release)
- Reflections: Terrain and Sky Only (major FPS decrease in areas with water when reflections were on Reflect All)

I changed the graphic options to the highest settings on my laptop to make some screenshots and forgot to set them back again for most of the rest of this BWE. I did lots of PvE, PvP and WvWvW and never really had any problems aside from a display bug that occured rather frequently, especially in cities, where some NPC and player models weren't visible to me.

and considering that I was playing on an full US server during a beta as a European with a not-so-great connection, there was remarkably little lag

To join the roundup: Phenom Black x4 3,2GHZ, 8 Gigs RAM, Radeon HD6850, 1680x1050. Played on High/Shadows medium/no VSync, and it ran very, very well, except for high populated towns at times, and WvW mass fights. Way better than last BWE and WORLDS better than the first one. If they keep this up, I should be good to go on launch day :3

Oh, but i had some display bugs, like screen flashes or objects that weren't visible from specific angles sometimes, and some environment textures changed very late to more detail, in a quite weird way. Those may just have been standard bugs though, I just didn't notice that during the last Weekends.

Thanks for the input guys, this puts my mind at rest. Glad to see some more improvement, I'm sure they'll continue to work on it until release. Can't wait to make my Sylvari Night Necro :D

I'm not saying it's a disadvantage. My original post talking about it just means thief is a lot more straight forward and maybe simpler to play. To get the most out of any other class you need to weapon swap constantly. As you said a thief can just jam the same skill 3 times.

And then twiddle your thumbs for at least three seconds.

Played on a gtx 670 overclocked and an i5 at 4.5ghz and everything maxed out ran beautifully. But the option for high res textures wasn't available, only medium :(. This happen for anyone else?

Even in WvWvW? I ran decently until I hit WvWvW. Even if it did.. that's a beast of a computer and even having to suggest that it might not run 60fps at all times is a crime.

Damn, this thread is movin.

My only real complaints about the game is performance. I can play skyrim and The Witcher 2 on high settings, and I have to play GW2 on medium-low and still dont run at a decent framerate constantly. thats an issue that i hope they fix cause DEs and WvW were pretty choppy

A minor annoyance of mine was that i rolled a few human female scholar classes, and holy hell, their footstep sound is REAL annoying. Its like this annoying jingle. I had to quit both characters and role male because I couldnt stand it.

First:
Charr Engineer
Slyvari Ranger
Next:
Asura Necro
Eventually:
Norn Guardian
Human Warrior

The rest I think ill pass on

Hi guys, this might be a "duh" question especially in this thread, but is this game worth the $48 currently at GMG? Thanks in advance! Used to play WoW back in the day, and only very little of GW1.

Still over 60 in WvWvW haha, but yeah I was surprised it didn't handle the game even better. But some of the scenery and effects are really outstanding, so part of me can understand.

Well, most everyone here will say yes. I will definitely put in plenty of hours into it, and the best part is that I wont have to pay a subscription fee

certainly, if for no other purpose than to discover a vast, beautiful game world

GW2 has little in common with it's predecessor. Just watch a couple of gameplay vids and see for yourself.

It's a real MMO, and there's no monthly fee, and it's a hell of a lot of fun. It's worth way more than $48 if you ask me.

My friend is looking to get the game after trying it on BWE. Is the GMG deal a coupon ? I checked there earlier today and thought it was $60 like most places.

Something random from all of this leveling talk that I just remembered about my playing time in the BWE, this is the first mmo where I wasn't obsessed with what level I was. I rarely paid attention to what level I was and if someone had to ask, I would have had to look as a reminder. When I was playing with my ranger, I honestly don't think I looked at my level more than twice, not because it was hard to find, but because I never cared or thought to. This is a monumental achievement in my eyes, because it showed me I was playing because I thought it was fun, not because of the addictive experience of seeing that level ding like I have in other MMOs I played long after I had gotten bored of them. Now I could see myself paying attention to my level more if I ever felt underleveled, but fortunately I didn't run into that problem.

I feel so sad, deleting the beta client from my machine :( It's been sitting on my desktop and now I can't play it anymore!

.....

I should delete D3 while I am at it.

Jon Petters: We haven’t. It is our current opinion that Necro is one of the two
professions that need to most love right now. Everyone will get some
help, but as I told many players in game, Necro needs more than most.
That does not mean there are no strong Necro builds, but necro just
needs more viable builds and more good trait
s.

Random Guy: Mind telling us what the other profession you’re looking at?

Jon Peters: Technically all of them, but obviously Thief, Mesmer, Necro need the
most help
. We now have 5 weeks left and are 100% focused on bug fixing
and balance, which include a lot of creating new viable builds. For
those not familiar with game development, that is a lot of time,
especially with the really smooth build making process we have. I
should probably post this in general too.

1. I didn't know the Necromancer was considered to be underpowered, but perhaps that's because condition damage builds were en vouge in this BWE. Minions certainly could use some buffs, as well as the axe and dagger skill sets.

2. I told you, I told everyone, the Thief is in bad spot right now, but no one would believe me. ANet understands me though. As for the Mesmer, well, I think we all know the profession needs some love. Interestingly, the Engineer is no longer on their priority list.

uh, that's the same client they'll use for the full release ;)

You can use the code COSYO-UDIDN-TGET1 when you checkout to get it down to $48.

I just picked up a copy at that price. I was pretty negative about the game as an MMORPG, but I'll still have fun playing it with some work friends. Great price at $48, too. Since I'm a Washington state resident, I effectively get a default 10% reduction in price shopping from GMG (no sales tax), so that just stacks with the 20% coupon letting me pay 30% less than if I bought it from the official GW2 site or a retail store.

Nooooo! That client will be patched and perfectly useable during launch!

Edit: Feel free to do away with D3 though, mwahaha!

yeah...maybe D3 will be resurrected in another 2 years, but that's for another thread :P. I kind of don't want to look at videos until a week before, don't want to unnecessarily hype myself up :)

Yes. ArenaNet has stated that the client you have now is the client you'll use at launch. In fact, it seems like every couple of days we get a little patch. Definitely keep it if you plan to play.

Interesting! OK, I guess I will make a games folder for it and copy it all into there (To remove it from my desktop!)

I very much plan on playing and joining the GAF guild while I am at it :)

As for the Mesmer, well, I think we all know the profession needs some love.

The Scepter needs help. Otherwise, they need to leave it the hell alone.

My worst nightmare is that I've finally found what I want to use as my main - and they're going to bollocks it all up appealing to people who don't know how to play it.

They'll need to completely revamp how stats work, what kind of affixes exist, and more to make me interested in that game again.

Be pretty sweet if minions, daggers, and axes got some love since thats is exactly what i plan on using. I had a lot of fun and really didnt feel under-powered at all. Felt pretty beastly actually. This is all just PvE though, not PvP

where'd you get that interview anyways?

I googled it after someone mentioned this on SA, unfortunately the official forum is already closed so I can't provide a source

Ran a Necro to 15 during this BWE. It really did feel a bit superfluous compared to the people in my party, though admittedly I'm not the best necromancer.

Wow, i completely forgot about the official forums. Oh well, didnt have any glaring issues besides wanting controller support

I would forever love areanet if they offered native controller support that when you ground target your right analog stick switches to the green target mover instead of the camera.

I actually like specter the best of any weapon. I used specter/pistol in PvP and it worked really well. You get confusion, plus two ways to make illusions. The block with the specter is very satisfying.

I'd like to see some fix to the Mesmer traits. The last tier of traits is pretty shitty.

Minions are rather good meat shields/distractions even in PvP (I ran a full minion master setup for my utility skills, probably not the best build but I still did really rather well in tourneys), even better with that trait that increases their health by 50% and the other trait that makes their attacks heal you for a small amount.

The scepter autoattack also does good damage over time, those bleeding conditions stack up pretty quickly.

One more thing Ill comment on, I was pretty underwhelmed with the human personal story. Got up to the 8th level in the noble and the dirty poor person and was not impressed. I thought the Norn story was a lot more interesting

I'm fine with a difference of opinion. Okay. Leave the scepter alone. Perhaps some traits work, but... I just really don't want them to mess with the weapon skills.

Norn story as a Guardian was decentish, but damn I hated the voice acting. Something grating about the Nordic race sounding like a bunch of midwestern Americans.

HOW DID YOU USE A GHOST AS A WEAPON!?!

I agree. The class is extremely fun. They managed to create a distinct and completely unique MMO class with the illusion/shatter resource management. I love it. The mesmer has so many tricks in his bag and has some very cool spells.

So what was WvW like when it was up? I never could get in.

Which is why I'm nervous that they'll augment it in some way in order to make it more mainstream.

and the official server is???? :D

We need to find out what servers will actually exist (since they added a ton and then cut a bunch) and which communities are rolling on them before we make a hard decision. We'll be discussing it in the next few days and probably have a post up about it as soon as possible.

For what it's worth though, here's a few things we gleaned from our little Gate of Madness experiment:
- The server was filled to capacity within an hour. I created my characters and then left to get my wife from work; she was unable to roll on GoM when we got home. ANet did up the population cap later in the week, but this does not bode well for launch.

- WvW was bugged, but was still completely dominated by Gate of Madness. Even if it hadn't been screwed up, there would have been very little point to playing since everything was captured.

- Titan Alliance was asking (I saw this myself in LA) and apparently demanding (I heard, but did not actually witness) that people stay out of World vs. World so they could get their guys in. This is shitty behavior (as expected) and we definitely don't want to be on a server with a group that thinks it can (or even should) dictate what people want to do for fun in a game.

Wow, that is completely fucked up. What a bunch of selfish pricks

I was one of the unlucky(or lucky?) ones that rolled on Henge. I could get into WvW no problem, but the few times i went on there we were getting smoked.

We were up against GoM the first time i went in. And wow, that was not fun at all. Just a massive Titan horde roaming around killing everyone

Wait. What? People do this? They think people will listen to them?!
