Shane Satterfield: Wii U will cost $299

Do people really still think the Wii U's launch lineup is bad?

In what world is NSMB U, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Zombi U, Project P-100, and Nintendo Land (and a bunch of other multiplatform titles) a bad lineup?

Even a Nintendo non-fan has to admit that's a very high quality list

I can easily say none of that except zombi U looks appealing. Nintendo land and another NSMB immediately get stricken off the list without any hesitation.

It would have a decent third party list if most of them weren't out already by the time the system comes out. Arkham City, ME3 and Darksiders 2 is hard to get excited about when I will have played all 3 by then.

Nintendo Land? No thanks
Project P-100? No thanks
Zombi U? No thanks
Rayman Legends (it will be on all other platforms 6 months later)
Pikmin 3? Looks like a GC/Wii game (because it is)
NSMB U is the only thing that is close to appealing for me.

Legendary post worthy of 2006.

I'm curious how it will do at that price. I know people buy Ipads at 600€, but I have a feeling 300€ for a just gaming device might be too much in these economic times. Not Nintendo's fault though, 300 is probably good value.

People who currently own a 360 and/or PS3 think the lineup is bad yes... Wii only owners have a lot to look forward to however.

I don't know, man. I have a PC, PS3, Wii, 3DS, and a Vita, and it seems like one of the best launch lineups in quite a while.

edit: Actually, I'll give you the Vita, which was probably as-good, but before that? What else?

As a launch lineup?

Yeah, it's pretty damn good. But it isn't being graded on a scale. It will be in direct competition with software releases on the other systems... of which... they're getting better releases.

As I've said before though. Quality isn't the winning factor. What the masses "catch" is what determines success. WiiSports isn't exactly the most fully-featured title in existence, but it was what the public wanted.

I agree. No interest at all in Nintendoland or NSMB . Only game I'm getting right away is ZombiU and even that might not have online multi (don't think it's confirmed yet) so I dunno what I'm gonna do cause I'm not paying 60 bucks for a 10 hour game. P-100 isn't a launch game, it's out a few months after during the 'window'.

We dont know if all of those games are launch games. I think that Pikmin 3 is kinda confirmed not to be a launch game. The launch window looks to be good though.

Have you forgot what a Wii game looks like?

Most people were pretty underwhelmed with how it looked at E3. I don't think it looks like a 2 generation leap from the original, but then someone told me it was a Wii game ported over some time in development. But it definitely doesn't look 2 gens better.

It doesn't look 2 gens better. It looks like your average PS3/360 game and running at 60FPS. I was underwhelemed, but it does not look like a Wii game. You can tell it has Wii origins though

You want them to launch this 50 dollars less than the current price of a PS3?

PS3's seem too be pretty sluggish and it looks like a PS3 redisgn should be coming in pretty soon. Probably drop it to $199. I'm talking about an entry level sku here. If Nintendo wants to do a bundle say 2 gamepads and Nintendo Land/Pikmin for $299 then that would be okay.

fair enough, "launch window" isn't quite the same, I guess. Hopefully sooner than later.

Anyway, I'm not here to argue, but for my money, there are at minimum 4 must-buy Wii U games coming out in the window.

That's pretty damn good for a new console.

That's just what I expected.

Will probably be there day 1, especially if NSMBU, Rayman, and ZombiU are there day 1 too.

$300 is fair, but high enough to keep me on the fence. At $250 I'll grab one right off the bat.

Depends on launch software, etc.

Again, not at all. Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 look more impressive than Pikimin 3.

Are you going off artstyle or technical merits because artstyle sure SMG looks better than a lot of PS3/360 titles to me. Technically it's not even close.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. What if the new model of PS3 really does end up being $150 or less? With the $99 Xbox (However bogus the deal actually ends up being), they might be pricing themselves out of the market. Obviously it should do okay at launch but I'm talking more about early 2013 and onward.

When I see a Zelda or Metroid on this thing, I'll wait for now. Not interested in games I've played already. Pikman 3 is the only thing that looks interesting at launch.

people really need to think back to other launch lineups if they say the wii u's is bad. are memories really that short?

I'm not grading wii u's launch lineup against anyone else's. I'm grading it on whether I think it's good enough to warrant me spending a large amount of money on it this fall and I'm just not seeing it. PS2 having a shit launch lineup really doesn't have anything to do with this.

With the rumoured $150 PS3, and the $99 Xbox 360, its gonna be tough for the big N.

This. I bought a Wii but I'm not buying a Wii-U at launch.

Hopefully there will be software support to change my mind in the future. My Wii collects dust.

Launch Lineups:
PSV > 3DS, look how that turned out.

$299...I think I'll wait. Would have bought it at $250, but there are plenty of games coming out this holiday that I can spend my time with.

that's why they're called 'fans' ... the line up is not good . Gimmicky zombie game? seriously

You're saying gimmicky like its a bad thing? or would you rather have a cookie cutter zombie fps that's just like everything else? It's like some people just try their hardest to not like something even when there is no reason to
