Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

My wife thought the same way... until she saw that all the human females are essentially anime chicks.

I was saying in IRC how I am disappointed in the human female face selection. They all look anime-ish and/or 12 years old. The variety is very little, and they don't really look much different. Look at the male Norn faces for some real variety. Some ugly mofos, but damn that is some great variety and uniqueness between them.

Speaking of that, there are way to many face options for human females compared to the other race/sexes specially considering how similar they are.

I gave the Sylvari a good amount of hate previously, but now that I've played them, I actually kind of like them. For one, you can make a really alien looking plant-creature in character creation. The mushroom head top is awesome, but some of the faces are like treant faces which is great. Two, their personal story and Caithe shats all over the human story. The whole idea of a race creating their society around the first book they come across is a bit silly and it makes the Nightmare Court a somewhat interesting counter-force. You then have Caithe, who is an interesting character. At least, more interesting than your average MMO character. Very cold, very harsh and abrasive, but with romantic ties to the enemy. For the human story, I didn't really buy into the political mystery they were selling. For the Sylvari, the politics are tied to relationships and it makes the story much better.

One thing I am looking forward to at launch is finally being able to take my time to do whatever. With just a weekend of time, I did not explore as much as wanted, and certainly did not explore the cities as much as I would like. I often rushed to test out PVP builds in Conquest and played more sPvP than I may have otherwise to rank up and see how the rewards change. I still have the Norn, Charr and Asura starter zones mostly untouched.

Yea, I didnt really like the human personal story from what I saw either. The only other race story that I saw was the norn and I thought that was definitely better.

The Norn running animation didnt really bother me at all, but I dont think i am going to roll one any time soon since I played Norn and their starting area in the beta A LOT. I really wanted to save Charr, Sylvari, and Asura for launch.

Human will be the last I play since, like i said, story was weak and I liked the norn starting area over the human area as well

Sword+Focus

Sounds about right. Love the blink ability. Fake edit: Oh, and he's also got the TP skill with burn included.

I'm not surprised there are so many guardians. Guardians are awesome.

I used Sword+torch near the end of the recent BWE, and loved it. Blink in, slash, breathe flames on everyone, consecrate!

Im tempted to try that now. Sounds like a lo of fun. I mostly used greatsword and a bit of hammer when i was playing guardian

Really regretting not playing a guardian in beta and replaying an engineer again. I have no idea how they play.

Solo they have a lot of light field generation which is good for keeping up retaliation with a 2H hammer. In groups they bring up a lot of support, a lot of damage reduction. They have blast and whirl finishers primarily so you're continually on the lookout for allied fields on the ground to use to buff your allies.

I love torch because the other ability is setting yourself on fire. What can be better than that! Hint: not many things. (sorry, I'm terrible at remembering ability names).

I found them very exciting to play. They have nice weapon variety to fit many playstyles, but it's mostly short and mid range (you are not on the frontlines most of the time is what I mean). PvE solo is kind of slow (but not too much to be a problem) and in groups they excel at doing some healing+support (buffs & debuffs mainly) and some crowd control. You need to get up close most of the time, but a lot of defensive abilities make you hard to drop down and that's half of the fun anyway. They are not twitchy like Elementalists, or jumpy damage dealers like warriors, but they provide satisfaction in that you will save plenty of asses while others won't even notice it was you who did it. What I love most about them is their CC abilities like Line/ring of warding. It usually goes: Jump to unsuspecting player -> trap him with one of those -> see them stumble again and again trying to run from you while their HP drops.

I think I should have really paid more attention to combos during the beta. I really never bothered to actually do them, and when they happened it was just on accident.

Seems like a pretty good combo would be naplam, air blast and a mine. though I guess I could simply drop napalm at my feet and do a rocket kick, but that would mean less ping pongy fun :(

So question on PvP. I know that at lvl 1 - 2 I can hop right in to do PvP at lvl 80. So do we get some sort of starting gear?

everyone has the same level gear for sPVP and all class abilities. Its an equal playing field, but you can tweak stuff to suit your build

WvW, you are leveled to 80, but go with what you have. That includes gear and abilities

How long/hard is it to get 30 points in the hall thingy >.<?

I dont even own GW though... so starting from 0 if I do.

It would take a very long time starting from scratch. Without any help from others (with gold or items) you probably wouldn't be able to do it before GW2 launches. However keep in mind that you can continue to earn HoM rewards even after GW2 has launched. But I doubt many people will want to play GW1 at that point.

Ah good deal. That sounds great since I'll probably be focusing more on PvP to start.

Really hyped for GW2 but is anyone else excited for the jumping puzzles hidden/located throughout the game? Adds a whole new dimension to gameplay/choice imo.

You shoudl definitely try it. I ended up liking it a lot more than the other off hands.

Yes! Torch is extra awesome because all your flames are blue!

In the BWE when i was running with other gaffers, we did jumping puzzles more than anything else.

This is very accurate. I saved a lot of asses as a Guardian, and I'm sure no one realized I was mass healing and casting protectionwhile CCing and causing dmg. I love the way your abilities help allies and hurt enemies at the same time. It allows you to dump abilities on enemies, because you end up protecting and healing your teammates at the same time anyway.

Really hate how the sylvari's emotes are the same as humans.

Hrmm... should i switch norn.

I think most of their movement animations are human as well. They put a lot of work in Charr and Asura animations, but the other three lack the same personality to their animations.

Well, they are all pretty much 'human' just with different skins. But I do agree that they should have tried abit more of a personal touch for sylvari and played on the whole leafy tree people thing.

Is it just me or has ANET eliminated people spamming in towns "WTB blah blah blah" and "WTS blah blah"? Since there is no trade button between players and if you want to sell something you just post it up on the trading post and boom you are good to go

????

Having an Auction House has never prevented trade chat spam in any MMO.

I'd have to agree, they really need to put more mature faces for variety, or at least some that have more character to them rather than generic barbies. I picked up the only one that seemed to have the most character/seriousness to her. Especially in a game that, having different body shapes, can avoid the WoW effect of having all grannies with supermodel bodies.

You can probably reduce the amount of anime-alikeness by reducing the eye size and increasing the squint. My problem with them was more that they seemed so blank. The Norn guys did have quite a lot of variety, they're pretty cool. The Sylvari and Asura however are stunning. I'ma particular fan of the Sylvari, so much variation and cool ideas!

Still, i have to applaud ArenaNet for giving female humans not only a reasonably variety of body types, but having them be quite realistic as well. If you've spent a couple of minutes with Tera's character creator, you'll know what I'm talking about. Sylvari are even flat-chested by default, and Charr entirely; try to find that in other MMOs.

Weltall's keg brawl post got me more curious about it, and looking around i found this

Good video tutorial. I will definitely play this game and gain much amusement from drop kicking asura in the head

Awesome tutorial indeed. I searched around for videos and all I found is people standing there in the tutorial area, or playing with obviously not much clue what they were doing. Nice find, bookmarked for when I need to show it to anyone. Thanks! :)

Prevented? No. Reduced? Oh god yes. Still, the key things here are 1) That you can't trade for money, just send the item blindly (so you have to trust the guy to send you the money back), 2) That you can post request orders in the AH, and 3) That the system will automatically buy the cheapest stuff for you and automatically price stuff for you. Really, just 1) would be enough to prevent trade spam completely (I mean, are you going to risk getting swindled just to avoid the AH fee?), but the other two add a layer of convenience to the process.

To add onto the guardian, I ran sword and focus with greatsword! excellent gap closer and damage. I'll post my build later but it was extremely powerful in spvp. a mixture of a signet, shout and summon with tome of courage.

I like this explanation on a nice offensive guardian build: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_yrqBE-t90&feature=youtu.be

What do you guys think?

well, as far as I'm concerned every Guardian that didn't use the spirit hammer skill in this BWE was just playing nice. If I recall correctly, it knocks enemies down after every third hit and you can also use it's special ability to knock your target down (and it won't disappear if you picked the right trait). I heard the other spirit weapons might have been broken as well, but the hammer was just ridicules.

e: heh, he mentions it at 4:34 "he happens to use the spirit weapons build which is overpowered and not really that good - because they're nerfing it anyway and it doesn't take any skill"

After watching a character creation vid I have no idea where you are getting this anime thing from. Looks like the kind of faces they had in Guild Wars 1.

Face morphing is available but I would like to see more stock options.

its true. I had the hammer of wisdom traited to last 50% longer, not die on command and 20% reduction in CD. bane signet for power and kd. and save yourselves.

if they nerf it no big deal.

I kind of want to run a Norn Necromancer, but Norn are so huge ugh

There's a height chart a few pages back showing race/sex heights at max/min. Norn are about human size at their shortest. I should have tested this in BWE3 to see if this gave the illusion of movement at normal speed since their animations make them appear to move slower.

What's your problem with huge necromancers?

Man I haven't had time to play many games lately, definitely not an MMO, but this game is going to make me somehow find an hour or two a night. I've spent 10+ years playing MMOs but it's been about two years since I've really been able to put some time into one. I haven't kept up with GW 2 at all other than I know that it would be awesome if I got some time with it.

So despite not having time or even a computer right now, I have it preordered. I hope something gives in the next few weeks

Am I the only one that is bothered by the fact that all of the Asura (and probably everyone else in this game) pronounce "Golem" as "Gollum"?

I thought maybe it was just a regional thing, but I've tried looking it up and I can't find any source for the "Ga-lem" pronunciation. Is it just a case of the voice director was a fan of Lord of the Rings, or is there something I'm missing here.

I think I setteld on playing Engineer, what tips and suggestions do you have on the class?
I didn't play in any BWE, just joined the hypetrain recently. From what I read, it seems a terrific versatile class that can't switch weapons mid combat.

You can't switch weapons, but weapon "packs". Its a extremely fun class to play with a high skill cap.

Engineer to me was a class that took a while to get going. You don't have much weapon choice, so the versatility really becomes apparent once you start to unlock your special skills later on. I liked playing mine as a turret engineer mainly, but you basically can specialize in alternate weapons, mines and grenades, turrets, potion thingies or a mix of the above. I found it the hardest class to play, or at least the one that requires the most management.

Holy shit suddenly this game makes total sense OH MY GOSH

Spent BWE 2 and 3 trying to figure out what combos were.

Yea, for some reason I thought the combo icon was an indication that there was a field and you had to use an abiliity to 'fill in' the color of the heart to get the combo.

Obviously, I never thought i got it because apparently that icon was the indication of a combo happening
