Counter-Strike: Global Offensive official site is live (kinda), beta starting today

Is this a crazy question? In 1.6 you had hotkeys and in CSS you had hotkeys and loadouts. In CSGO I don't see a place to save loadouts and there aren't any numbers for hotkeys, plus the buy menu is a big wheel that is clearly designed for a console controller.

No I said that for all the reasons you just listed because it's not there. lol

People assumed you were a cod player trying to put on some mad perkz and 5 scopes on your weapon. As for your question I'm not exactly sure tbh. I've just gotten used to buying with my mouse.

It's not fun until you start each round by mashing B & number keys half a dozen times. Is there an easier way to go backwards in the buy menu via the keyboard?

The right mouse button takes you out of the buy menu entirely, but I don't know about just jumping up a level.

It's not too bad in competitive mode where the game pauses for a few seconds at the beginning of the round. In whatever the other mode is called everyone just rushes as soon as the round starts, so if you want to do anything other than rebuy previous (f2) it's really stressful.

Anyone still playing this? My friend and I have been been playing a decent amount but as mentioned earlier, updates and developer communication have slowed to a crawl and I imagine that the current build we're playing will be more or less the game we get on launch day. This is pretty unfortunate, as recoil (or lack thereof while moving), sound, movement, UI, play with friends etc all need major work. They were really good at communicating with the playerbase earlier on in the dev cycle so not really sure whats up with that. Either way its somewhat disappointing.

There WILL be at least one more major update during the beta focused around the sound systems. The beta is also going open later this month.

Yesterday morning I got a popup saying that i was given an extra CS GO beta key. I tried finding it but it's not in my inventory! I've restarted Steam several times but still no key - is it gone for good?

having a lot of fun playing this. the game seems fresh and many of the weapons seems to have been changed a lot since source.

i guess cs 1.6 will be alive forever, but with this coming out (soon?), will ANYONE still be playing cs:source?

Don't worry. I wouldn't be surprised if the game goes into open beta after the Summer sale.

Valve confirmed it will be going into open beta soon:

The two most frequent questions we see asked dealing with access – will there be an open beta and when will pre-orders open up? For pre-orders we hope to open it up about a month before release so roughly July 21st but that is a rough date we will firm up as we get closer. As for an open beta, where everyone can get a chance to try CS:GO, sometime between the pre-orders and release.

looks like no update today

CSGO has been in closed public beta since Nov.
7 months.

They've gotten a lot of info from the community, and are now in the final stage of squashing bugs (across 4 platforms) in-house before releasing in a month.
They've announced this, but people seem to think the devs should make constant announcements about what's going on exactly. Talk about entitlement.

Maybe they got tired or reading the endless 'CSGO Sucks! The End of CS is Nigh!' threads from hardcore 1.6 fanboys on the Official CSGO Steam forum. Almost all of whom hated: any amount of fog, tracers, the movement, the spray patterns, the classic map changes, the map "clutter", the lack of color, the post processing effects, the size of the characters, the size of the guns, the reload animations, the new grenades, the circular buy menu, the lack of bunnyhopping, the sound, potentially having to play with console gamers, any mention of female models or an aiming down sights feature....etc etc. Nothing was right according to these people.

And yet from the live Twitch feeds I'd watch (EQMachine), people seemed to be enjoying the game just fine.

Looking forward to playing it next month. Will be a very welcome change from CoD, indeed.

1. They posted on their own blog that they were working on a big update due in a couple of weeks on June 11th. they made another blog post on June 28th that said they were working towards their next big update for the beta. It would take them very little effort to let people know what's going on, especially considering how often they've updated the game before (once a week for some time).

2. Those are all valid concerns. The gun model animations and sounds are weak. Sound in general is bad. The fog, vignette, raytracers are annoying and there is no way to turn them off. There are no silencers in the game. They haven't made any new maps for the classic Counter-Strike game mode.

3. Really, some people seem to be enjoying the game? How many people aren't enjoying it? I know I've seen player numbers drop over the last few months

Personally, I stopped playing because no one's in the beta.

I mean, there are people in the beta. But last time I played, it was one or two crazy good guys that carried a team. Valve needs to widen the net and let more shitty/average people in. Which I guess they'll be doing soon.

Also, just compare how this game is treated to Dota 2. The blog (http://blog.dota2.com/) and the game are updated 2-3 times a week

They're thinking of every little thing, from the UI to physics to visual style. They're communicating this information to everyone. I guess that's the difference between Valve and a company contracted by Valve though

Well Dota 2 has to compete with League of Legends. They update the game weekly and the website every other day. CS is totally different.

And that's great! Communication between developers and the community is incredibly easy these days. Valve is great at doing that with Dota 2, TF2 and Left 4 Dead.

Putting thought into every aspect of the game is what makes Valve games so great, and no one can look at CS:GOs models, animations, sounds and visuals and say that about it

It's almost like 1.6 players care about what this game COULD BE, given the right criticism. If you want to play COD go play it, this is counter strike and no one knows what makes counter strike, counter strike better than 1.6 players, dev's included.

The game is quite far away from what I would consider releasable IMO. As KingKong said the sound is weak, models are weak, tracers and fog are still in the game, etc. And as he said, it's not so much the lack of updates, but the complete breakdown of communication with the beta testers.

TF2's success says you're wrong. Hardcore players would never have liked the art style, the hats, the comedy, etc.

The majority of 1.6 players don't want anything but an HD 1.6 (despite what Wisenhunt says.) That's pretty clear from reading the threads on that forum.
Nothing that was added to GO by the devs was any good, according to vocal 1.6 community.
Any suggestions for new gametypes/equipment was always shot down. The typical response was "That might be cool in another game...but that ain't Counterstrike".

They tweaked the spay patterns numerous times in a variety of ways; feedback was mixed. Molotovs - no good. Modern circular menu - console garbage. Map layouts similar to L4D maps - devs are lazy SoBs. And so on.

I imagine when the final version is shown shortly, they'll have competitive versions of the maps with no fog & tracers, as requested. And the sound will be fixed.

Anyway, I've enjoyed this guy's CSGO videos for a number of months (TheWarOwl) - agree with almost all his opinions.

1) Success has very little to do with how good the game is, unless you think the Call of Duty franchise is the best FPS out there. Obviously a newish Valve game that they've been pushing hard and gamifying (hats, drops, constant updates) is going to be popular, but it wasn't as popular as 1.6 or CSS until it was free.

2) Who is this "majority of 1.6 players"? Is it people on a forum? I don't think a handful of people posting on a forum constitutes a majority considering there are over 40k people playing 1.6 right now.

3) If they tweaked the spray pattern, that means the spray pattern had problems. Isn't that what they should do? Keep in mind that 90% of the game is copied straight out of CS 1.6, so when the other 10% is not only different, but worse, people will rightfully complain.

4) You imagine that they will fix everything that's wrong with the game? Why? They haven't given any indication that they even think tracers or fog are a problem. Sure, it could happen, but what makes you think it will?

I don't really think this is representative of most 1.6 players though. Personally as a 1.6 player I think the decoy and molotov are good additions. They could add some new strategy to the game which is always cool. What sucks currently is recoil (you can just run around with the p90, spray, and get three headshots), tracers, fog, bad sound, etc.

1.6 Players don't expect an HD 1.6 (although that would be awesome), but they expect at the very least a competent sequel. Retarded decisions like fog, tracers, and strange map edits like taking out back halls in nuke are bad enough, but they refuse to take these out of the game despite the entire beta testing player base not wanting them. It also doesn't help that they haven't made a real content patch or even communicated with the beta testers in terms of feedback in two months.

And even then, they would all turn off the post effects, and turn down the graphics to get the best performance and least visual distraction for competitive matches.

I love 1.6 and Source, but in a way I always hope that they would develop the game on their own, stop trying to recreate an old game and make it evolve to something new that still retains the pure visceral gun play in the series.

Don't forget that the release date is for the 360 and PS3 versions as well, and considering how long the approval process for those platforms is, I doubt we'll be seeing an update in the middle of August

I would think they will release an update soon, put up pre-orders and make it open beta until release. I would hope that they continue working on the game after release but you never know.

Still having controller problems.

I got it to work as suggested, select the game with the controller.

good to go right? no

I can't aim up or down. Looked it up and i'm told to run exec 360controller.cfg.

Problem is that when I enable developer console it doesn't work. the ~ only allows me to turn off console, console comes up when I hit up on my left analog stick. I can type but my enter key wont respond to my command not will selecting submit via mouse click.

I tried turning off the developer console option, but I'm back to square one, no up or down aiming. I turned it back on after a restart of the steam app and the computer but it goes back to enabling console only when pushing up on left analog stick and same results as above.

I'm almost done with this beta and haven't had a chance to play it. And before anyone tells me to use a keyboard and mouse, its just not going to happen. controller or bust for me.

worst beta experience ever.

Is the PS3 getting a beta for this?

Have you sent Steam Support a ticket, checked around the CS:GO SPUF forums, etc? Hell, shoot a tweet to csgodev and see if Chet replies.

I hope you manage to get your controller issues sorted out. I have 200+ hours in the CS:GO beta and I've been loving the heck out of it, even when (aka the majority of the time) I absolutely suck.

I think the beta is PC only, but the game will be out on Steam/XBLA/PSN.

Oh, and some new info:

A crosspost from SPUF from an HPE dev discussing CS:GO.
A crosspost from Facepunch/SPUF discussing Steam translation strings.

PS: Don't read the rest of that thread. Not worth your time.

No, I haven't sent a ticket. That's the right thing to do.

I did search their forums and web for just my issue but it doesn't seem to be a common one.

Thanks

Tried a program like Xpadder or Joy2Key?

Tried a program like Xpadder or Joy2Key?

hate xpadder.

Joy2key is for ps3 controller right? While I'd love to use my ds3 over my 360 controller, most games are 360 controller native support which makes it easier. No matter the preference sometimes its best to go with whats supported.

At best I am willing to get a pinnaclegameprofiler pin, which I am going to try tonight for DayZ.

But then again CS supports the 360 controller, I shouldn't need a third party app. I still need to send that ticket, ended up loading up dayz for the first time and lbp kart racing instead.

Double-post because I thought it was worth a bump: the beta just went live for Mac. Yay. I was playing way too much CS and hopping back and forth was becoming tedious. : )

They're probably crunching on a stable console build right now.

Two weeks ago, Chet said that they locked down the version to get rid of any serious bugs that were in the game. Said that it'll get an update in a few weeks, so I would assume in early August and that'll be the start of the open beta and preorders.

It doesn't work though. I keep getting Corrupt Files, and if you run file verification, it will say everything is fine.

That would be nice. Newell often talks about rewarding good customers, and I can't think of a better customer than those that'll rabidly test your game for you. I got into the beta very late and think I still put a good 50+ hours into it.
