Xbox Live Fall 2012 Dashboard Public Beta - Signup Now

So, Games tab still isn't fixed in terms of placement, and there still isn't a "Games on Demand" option when filtering lists of games by type.

I wonder if Microsoft actually uses these dashboards after they make them.

Trying out IE, I'm also reminded that IE automatically puts borders on images that are links, unlike every other web browser out there. I really, really wish they'd get out of that freakin' habit.

Flash is a resource hog. Anything other than HTML5 is not happening guys.

Flash, Silverlight, and other Plug-in video players are not supported. Please do not report issues with these players.
HTML5 video is supported, but you may encounter issues with video playback. Please report them!

More about testing IE here...

Anyone able to get trailers.apple.com to work? I believe it should be HTML5.

Plent of problems with html5 videos. jw player stops playing about 10 minutes in. YouTube embedded video has the circle buffering throughout even though it is playing.

Is this the Halo 4 premium theme? I would like to get the one you have.

They actually did decent job with the marketplace. Shame it still seems like wasteland compared to a few years ago. One big release a week I don't think is cutting it.

I watch an episode of Law & Order SVU earlier, and it didn't auto-start the next episode when the one I was watching was done. Is that a new update?
Oh that's good to hear. The other thing that bothered me was how it displays a random frame from the episode you're about to watch (which depending on the show could potentially have spoilers.) Do you remember seeing that too?

Yeah, for me it shows a scene from the previous episode. Thought it only did that for Breaking Bad.

So there is no party mode again for netflix on this new dashboard? Still don't know why they would get rid of something like that.

The xbox dashboard has nothing to do with the netflix app. Everyone still has the same Netflix app whether you are in the beta or not.

Kinda meh for us, can't download Adobe Flash to watch TV shows through Xbox on CBS/TNT etc. etc. Otherwise the dash seems a bit faster now, but I really wish they would allow Flash installation.

Flash crashes the most stable browsers on the market today, causes stable systems to suddenly spike in cpu cycles, and in many cases, sucks down way too much memory for no reason. There is no way MS install it on a closed system with only 512MB of memory.

Every time I see this thread I get excited only to find I am again late to joining this beta. Any word on any pushes they may have regarding more sign ups soon?

I wouldn't count on that. The Smartglass stuff probably needs more horsepower than the Zune offers. plus is the Zune even capable of running apps?

if you need an MP3 player i mean just get the iPod Touch and be done with it or get a Nexus 7 tablet or something.
While it is highly unlikely that the Zune HD will get a Smartglass app, it is capable of running apps and could probably run something like Smartglass (but don't count on it).

Found an example of a video working in HTML 5 that worked on the 360 browser as well. The video is in the middle to lower part of the website.

I'm gonna stop bitching about Flash, but what is the exact reasoning for not including Flash in this update? It would save me plugging my HDMI cable into my TV from my laptop to watch shows. Are they just trying to stick it to Adobe like Apple?

Even Adobe said it will stop support of Flash on mobile devices. Flash was great for it's time but it's time has now passed.

Because Flash is garbage. It's CPU and RAM intensive, the number one cause of browser crashes, is a security vulnerability, etc. It's not a good fit for consoles for the same reason it's not a good fit for mobile devices.

Microsoft isn't supporting their own browser plugin (Silverlight) either so it's not like they're specifically trying to screw with Adobe.

The beta has given me the ability to stream music, pictures and some videos (as in AirPlay style) from my Galaxy S3 using AllShare to the 360. I'd never seen the option before but maybe it existed in a previous version of the dash and I just hadn't seen the option on my phone. Pretty cool, I'm gonna be using it to stream music all the time.

downloaded the app and logged in, but no update yet. does it take some time until i can dowload it or did i do something wrong?
