Xbox Live Fall 2012 Dashboard Public Beta - Signup Now

I mean like now..big ass Breaking Bad as in the middle, clicking automatically takes me to Zune?

Zune doesn't exist anymore. It's now Xbox Video and Xbox Music.

Xbox Video is now built into the dashboard (like the old Xbox Video Marketplace, go figure), so it doesn't launch an app.

Xbox Music is still a separate app.

Had to install Windows 8 again and WOW the Smartglass system works amazing now, clicked play on Burnout Revenge and usually it would take around 30 seconds to play it but now its instant.

If you go to games, demos, sort by date, indies is mixed in with everything now, which is terrible. There's so much garbage there...

Indie Games get 'hidden' and people complain. They're put front and center and...people complain.

The sad part is knowing that was coming :D

That sounds good. Hated the slowass launching an app on Zune store.

the browser is very smooth. excellent (for a tv browser)

I dunno. I appreciate the need to respect NDAs but look at what happened with the video/color bug in the last dashboard release. Known issue throughout the beta and wasn't fixed until months after release and only because we bitched enough to media outlets to get MS attention.

There is a huge difference between someone saying that and what Mesoian has been ranting about. He's nitpicking things that will likely be tweaked before this beta is done, and even incorrectly stating things are broken which are not.

I really wish I had a touch screen device to try out the smartglass functions but, this so far is really, really cool. I'm loving IE and searching the web by voice is a really nice touch as well. Now if they would let me customize my home page more to my liking I'd be set.

Props MS on a job well done.

So you still can't see more than 3 of your friends without drilling down? Why does my own avatar need to be here? Should toss me into the home section and get rid of that third column of ads.

As a person who works on UI/UX this is a clear improvement. I can't wait for that US Games Marketplace to come to the UK version too.

Tonnes of feedback I'll summarise and put to MS, but really impresse with thier implementation of IE.

Work needs to be done outside of the "Display Mobile Site" to get sites to show their html5 content or for it to handle centrain configs for video.

I was gutted The iPad version of TVCatchp.com or things like Twtich wouldn't function (I know a twitch app is coming).

Also for the first time I'm watching a big screen version of dash to leave on the TV with news, Facebook & a twitter updates along with a rotating picture gallery etc.

Should be able to knock one up in HTML5, what do you say, GAF project?

Would someone describe how it actually works so far? I can't use it (yet) because I don't have a touch screen phone/tablet.

its the xbox companion app, it works A LOT better across all devices now. Its almost instant on Windows 8 actually.

So if I log into the companion app and connect to my 360 will it recognise I have the update and unlock smartglass? I haven't got the update yet went to check it but my wireless has stopped working on my Xbox…

No it just calls it Smartglass, so the companion app will probably become Smartglass when the dashboard update hits.

Well, I finally got the update. So far im very impressed with it, very fast.

Only things That should be sorted is:

A way to hide the TV section.

When checking my achievements its still very slow.

Allow you to sort your games in (my games) section to only show installed 360 games.

Are you sure about that? I just clicked on stuff that takes me to a separate video app. Might not be called Zune anymore but the functionality seems to be similar.

yeah, seems so here too. it seems maybe somewhat streamlined and faster but still a delay.

i dont get why. just work like a web browser. if i go to netflix.com right now on my pc there wont be any delay.

All of the video streaming sites ive been on so far just dont work or crash within a few mins. Browser is pretty decent if you dont want to watch video.

The game store is even more of a mess due to the wasteland that is indie games being mixed in with everything. Demos of real games are all but impossible to find now.

Just got my update. Like the Pinning of stuff. Very handy. Overall speed it nice as well. Just downloading IE to check it out.

I'm pleased with the update but coming from such a poor interface that isn't hard.

They replaced the manky grey transparent layer between the UI and the BG and have replaced it with a faint white layer. My Banjo Kazooie theme now pops again but it is even more obscured.

Loading has improved almost everywhere. Apps load much faster (youtube used to take at least 40 seconds, now it's 10-15) and my game list loads almost instantly (currently just over 200 items installed). The only bit that remains poor for me is the quick launch Recent Downloads and Game list. They still take a good 30 seconds to load.

Internet Explorer is amazing. Loads very fast and you can just switch to mobile view, type in tblop and bookmark it... sexbox.

Earlier in the thread people mentioned the disc tray/play game tile being smaller. For most people it has gotten smaller. Most regions home page still only use two rows of tiles. The US I think is the only region to have switch to the three row layout that everyone now sees in this beta.

Currently when you select the demo tab there is no way to select the type of demo (Retail, XBLA, indie). All of them are lumped into one pile. They'll fix it but it currently looks like the addons section with indie game taking the place of Rock Band DLC.

And you can't remove Apps.

Ads have even bigger screen real estate and I cant even use the browser. Wow great update.

Once again this is a beta. Why even bother signing up if you can't take that into account.

And if you can't use the browser go tell the people who can fix it on the beta forum

Having had low/no expectations I'm pleasently surprised, but I still think Metro doesn't work as they've inacted it.

I would love to see some metrics on the UI & the Games Marketplace for the past 3 years.

Eh, how much is really going to change between now & release?
The ad size is unlikely to change, and I think his browser issue is its Gold lock, which I'm guessing they won't change either.

I think it would benefit the active population of multiplayer games if they did away with that Gold restriction. Can't it move in more of a PS Plus direction?

Oh once it gets out of beta the home screen wont be devoted to breaking bad, shake it up and Nas? Well I sure hope so.

Why, so they can laugh at me being silver?

You sound like your goal is to bitch about the update regardless of what they did

The first sentence I can see what you're saying, the last comes off as kind of childish. No one cares enough to laugh at you. :p

Yeah, you keep telling yourself that.

I will, because I know I'm right.

Having used the new dash for a few hours, it's incredible and I haven't encountered a single non related ad. All of them have promoted content that's available on the console and can be accessed by a single press of a button.

And don't even get me started on the new recommendations menu. GODDAMN. It's the bee's knees. Recommending me content that I might actually like? The future is here.

I just downloaded the update and the browser works great. On YouTube I see a white background around the screen and when I select use my whole tv screen to show content option, the screen expands so much that the edges of the screen are cut off.

Overall a good expereience and it's about time a decent browser is available in the living rooms

They arent rated, so never? Its not an Xbox live issue more of a ratings issue iirc.

I don't think that's the case. iOS games aren't rated either and you don't have to be online for them. Either it's some outdated rating issue that's at play, or there is a technical/security reason for it.
