Galaxy On Fire 2 HD seems pretty shit hot from the hour or so I've played so far. Looks great on the iPad 3 as well. Only pisser is the fact that the iCloud saves don't work across devices, contrary to the app description. I was hoping to flit between my iPad and iPhone with this one :(

Could you (or someone else who has played this) elaborate a bit more on the game?

Coincidentally yesterday I was browsing through the Mac App store and almost bought the "Full HD" version but didn't since it's not really the kind of game I play, + it being somewhat "pricy" for an App Store game (Full HD version is $19.99) I decided against it… but I'm still intrigued by it.

Oh, but it does - It's just implemented weirdly. You need to use the specific iCloud save slot towards on the bottom of the list (above the OpenFeint one). I, too, misunderstood the way it works initially and I still don't know why they're not synching all save slots over iCloud.

I find the game much easier to play on the new iPad though, especially mining. It's too unwieldly on my 4s.

It's a space shooter RPG. Ever played Freelancer? It's like that, but a bit lighter.

It's not working for me. I saw the iCloud slot and saved in it, but it's not carried over to my iPhone. Tried saving on the phone and switching to pad, that didn't work either. They now each have a save in the iCloud slot, but they're different saves. Ah well, runs like shite on my 4 anyway.

Sorry, I assumed everyone knew all about it and I was lttp. It's a space shooter / trading game. I haven't had chance to play much but it seems to involve taking missions, mining asteroids and shooting down pirates. I'm sure there'll be more variety later on but for now, I'm just happily mining away.

What does your Documents & Data say in iCloud, do you have multiple saves there (you're using the same iCloud account for both devices right?)?

They implemented it this way so that they could move saves between the non-HD, HD and Full HD (OSX) versions seamlessly.

I'm using the same Apple ID on both devices and all my other iCloud saves sync without issue. I've looked into iCloud and it only shows 1 save called gof2_cloud_save or whatever. I don't know if that's the save on the iPad or the iPhone though.

That was the impression that I got. I must've bollocksed something up somewhere, I'll delete both copies and both saves and start again.

I've only tried the Openfeint slot to transfer progress between devices, and it's worked flawlessly for me.

Make sure you've got iCloud enabled and that you're signed into GameCenter on both devices, not really sure why it's not working for you but I can assure you that it's working for me.

You can turn down the graphical quality in the game if it's not running well for you, also try rebooting your device to free up some memory.

Any recommendations for High-Score games with optional perks to be bought after every round + ingame achievements ? (like Ski Safari, Zombie Carnaval, ZiGGURAT)

The king of all endless runners/score attack games, aka Temple Run? :p

I don't know how to say this best but, can anyone recommend me some "deeper" games on the App store? I don't mean like "cut the fruit" or "Basketball toss" or something, I mean something with more effort put in.

I loved Infinity Blade, going to get Infinity Blade II. I like what I've seen of Botanicula. Any story RPGs or adventure games? Anything with substance?

Story/Adventure:
Yesterday
Ghost Trick
Machinarium
Monkey Island Special Edition

Tower Defense:
Kingdom Rush

Puzzle:
World of Goo HD

Strategy:
Hero Academy

Racing:
Real Racing 2 HD
Reckless Racing 2

Those are the best games that I can think of in their respective genres...all of them are somewhat "deep" aside from the racing games...With World of Goo and Kingdom Rush being my favorites.

New Star Soccer, Real Racing 2, Ravenmark, Squids, Kingdom Rush, Dragon Fantasy, Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing, Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy, Death Rally, Autumn Dynasty and then various ports or games with virtual buttons etc which I don't prefer, like Lost Winds, NyxQuest, Gunman Clive, League of Evil, Beat Hazard Ultra, etc. That's most of what I've got installed with more substance than usual, there have been others I've been done with though, like World of Goo, and various (even) lesser games I don't bother mentioning like Extraction: Project Outbreak and Dead Trigger. Sky Gamblers just about made the cut.

Ever play the 2004 remake of the Bard's Tale on the PC/Xbox? It's on the App Store.

Everything mentioned above is great but Incoboto is a highly underrated game. It's in my top 3 iOS games but unfortunately is iPad only.

Probably not going to find anything with more substance than Final Fantasy Tactics. But Waking Mars and the LostWinds games also definitely have substance. Waking Mars has an especially cool story. And of course, there's Sword & Sworcery.

btw what happened to it? I wanted to try the update but I couldn't find it in the app store, was it pulled?
Don't know, I owe Apple 2,39 € so I haven't been able to update anything anyway (FU Apple, don't let me buy without funds next time!), if it's not available then never mind, too bad though, I hope it returns (and maybe with full screen display on the iPad2!).

Ravenmark.

Also, The Bard's tale got a pretty good port, so did the GTA games.

I found Waking Mars to be somewhat long but pretty shallow, even when trying to 5-star the levels. And the story was kinda bleh.

For the people recommending Ravenmark, did it get better through patches or something? I don't recall finding it too impressive.

It's certainly got long and interesting campaigns (one just got added) and deep Lore and good gameplay, so I don't know what else you'd want from a TBS game :p maybe apart from multiplayer, but even that is coming

On a whim I checked to see if an update was out for Cthulu Saves the World since I had uninstalled it, finding the first release unplayable.

Well, one is out. I've tried it out and the font is better, the controls are better, no orientation issues, and it hasn't crashed on me even once. This is a much better release and I'd recommend everyone download the update if they couldn't play the first release.
This is great news, everyone needs to play this game!

Incoboto received a retina update today! Buy it if you haven't! The developer said he is interested in making a sequel and I really want to see that.

I have not tried icloud saving in GoF2 but using the openfient internet save slot is so much better and instant, ignore the icloud trash.

The Openfeint slot you have to refresh before you can save over, I would hardly call that much better and instant compared to using the iCloud save slot which is, instant. But as you say you haven't used it so you wouldn't be aware of that.

Incoboto just received ipad retina support in an update btw. Though the dev admits that the retina support is not complete yet, he's still working on redoing the artwork.

edit: i see you just mentioned that in a later post, mah bad.

Oh I see, that sounds pretty great but now I'm torn on whether buying the much cheaper iOS version or the Mac App Store one. Decisions decision, what say you GAF? If I were to buy the iOS version I'd probably do most of the playing on my iPod (4th gen), how does it perform?

I'm also intrigued by GOF2, how is it on the new iPad? Any of the expansions worth it? It's only 4.99 for the HD version which doesn't seem to bad since its usually 10$

The HD version looks phenomenal on the new iPad. I play it at the max resolution (2048x1536) and havent noticed any slowdown. But I'm still early in the story, so there isn't too much happening in the screen at once. And I cannot comment the expansions yet, as I haven't played them.

If you have an iTouch 4g you should buy the normal version, not the HD one. Your hardware can't handle it. The SD version tends to drop to $0.99 every now and then.

How did you find the save system for Walking Dead? I had a few instances where I took a break and when I came back I lost 15 minutes of progress.

Love the game aside from that though.

I've read about a bunch of issues with the game, but I haven't even seen so much as a stutter on my iPad 3. That sucks about your progress loss, though.

If you're a big fan of the movies then Back to the Future will be really good for you. If you're wanting to play it just for more adventure games then you may be disappointed as (I thought) they were incredibly easy.

thanks for the heads up re: BTTF. I decided to give Puzzle Agent a spin. That, and a game that Touch Arcade highly recommended called YESTERDAY. We'll see...

Also, is anybody playing Swift Stitch?? Very awesome little reflex-based puzzler with Vetrex-style graphics. I dig.

It's ok. I sunk tens of hours on it since last week. Gets repetitive though and like many iOS games, will probably not beat it. It provided me with good distraction when I wanted, it has that one more quest feel that good strategy/sims game have. Good value for the 5$

iPad 3 player here. And sadly I did notice slowdown at max resolutions compared to next one down. It's not game breaking bad, but not smooth.

Puzzle Agent is pretty good. Good challenge, fun puzzles, interesting story, and I love the humor and art style.

As far as Yesterday is concerned I was disappointed with it. I'm a big fan of the developer's past games but it felt like Yesterday wasn't finished. It's very short, took me three hours, and there isn't enough time to let the characters really grow on you. Story is decent, puzzles are fine, and I like the world but it really felt like there is a lot missing. I played the PC version, by the way. I guess I'm comparing it too much to their past games and see it as a let down.

Also, I love Swift Stitch! I've mentioned it a couple of times in this topic but I'm not sure if anyone cared enough to check it out. I've really enjoyed it, though, and it's become one of my favorite games of this year. Great soundtrack, too.

Yeah same, I was excited to see the game running at retina native but the performance definitely suffers. Still looks shit hot in regular resolution mode anyway though, awesome game.

I finished Walking Dead last night, can't wait for the next one! I think I'll replay this one again, try and take some different paths and see what happens.

Game has some optimization but the team is pretty responsive so I believe they are working on it!
But I like it for the dream-esque visuals and its references to Despicable Me and Tiny Wings :D
