Darksiders 2 new info! [one month away from release]

I'd assume that the DS1 save is for playing as War in The Crucible or something like that.
Agh, I need money, I'm loving the first game, and the second looks better in every way, but I will not be able to get it day one :(

That would be AMAZING!

It's like DMC combat at the base level without incorporating stuff like style switches, step cancels, air mobility options and secondary weapons like firearms. That's really where DMC shines and I am hoping DS2 has stuff on it's own to really flesh out the combat (like the abilities in the skill tree). The dash under is very reminiscent of Trickster level of combos in those high level videos.

Definitely right.

The primary goal was to open up the system and give players more options and freedom for creativity than the original game. We definitely didn't try to recreate the combat of DMC/Bayo, but we were inspired by their fluidity and open-endedness.

DMC/Bayo are absolutely incredible combat games, through and through (but I don't need to tell you that!). DS2 is an Action RPG in which we really wanted to raise the bar for what even we expected out of RPG combat. I truly believe that if you play DS2 as a Darksiders game with improved combat you be very pleased.

Once you finally get started, try to incorporate Wrath moves and Gear Items (Deathgrip, Redemption, etc) to come up some super sweet combos. I can't wait to see what you all do!

August 14th needs to happen right meow.

One thing that I have always like about Zelda style combat is the Z targeting and using secondary items. That type of system makes it incredibly easy to incorporate tons of variety without having to worry about aim etc. Will there be an option to make focus mode a toggle, or are you going to have to hold in LT while doing it?

I was never a big DMC combo guy, but i really want to play Ninja Theory's reboot and it looks like Darksiders II will serve as an excellent introduction into the world of combo building.

Never have i expected such a thing, Darksiders II was supposed to be only a cool adventure game! Why are you making it so awesome?! :D

Btw, if that doesn't look like some DMC level of combat, I don't know what does.

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but from what I've seen so far, and what tragic has said about the combat, it seems more DMC-lite than even DmC. whether it is, as DmC seems like it has some depth (although I'd argue it doesn't matter when combat looks so unsatisfying), remains to be seen, but it sets the bar pretty high in any case.

DmC doesn't have hard lock on and runs probably at less frame rate than ds2. I don't know why anyone would flame you for saying that.

I don't think you'll get flamed for that,DmC combat just look completely rubbish (even with the amount of Capcom help that Ninja theory apparently got)

Lets wait for some combo videos before jumping to uber high praises.

So far, the only CLEARLY VISIBLE difference between DMC and DS2 is that DS2 doesent have air combat, no multiple levels of rising trough the air, and no gun juggling. Im sure there is lots of other things under the hud that is different, but these are most apparent.

Yeah, the comparisons are a bit premature. But even if it ultimately falls short, it still seems like DS2 is going to be a far better overall package.

I am completely abandoning DmC, but as soon as that thread came up with DMC/Bayonetta fans watch this Darksiders 2 trailer I was completely sold on it and I haven't even played the first one. It was that good.

I think DmC will have a decent combat system but it's not going to have the overall package feel that ds2 will have. Dmc in general has survived this long because it abandoned all that extra stuff for the combat to be top tier. Now that the combat isn't going to be top tier (at least I don't think) it will really expose the rest of the game. The biggest problem with dmc is that despite being a reboot in terms of game play its not moving the genre forward, there are no genuinely new mechanics to be excited about.

but then again what can you really do that its new, combat mechanics wise? something relevant that is not a gimmick. the only thing i can think about is messing with "time" but that could be a gimmick.

Dmc3, v Joe, pop and bayo already did that. There are still a lot of mechanics that can be added to action games especially those stemming from other genres like rpg and fighting games. I would love to play an action game where you can swap characters on the fly for some multi character combos. I would also like evolution of some mechanics like the ex rev system in dmc4 or the summoning legions system from chaos legion or a lot of the mechanics from God hand.

:( Having trouble sleeping lately... my desire to play this game isnt helping. >.< I want to start making combos darn it. I'll prob have some combo clips out by the 5th day at the latest x.x

I really need to learn how to edit and make a full video

Can't wait to get it. I want to buy it on release so bad, but I'm away from my apartment and consoles for over a week after the release :(

Have tragic or hdn commented on the PS3/360 versions? Are they up to snuff? Framerate/screentearing, etc.

I asked hdn if there is screen tearing in the 360 version earlier in this thread and he said that there's no tearing in the console versions and that they took care of it early in the development.

On the other hand every 360 video we've seen thus far has a lot of tearing plus some guys that played the 360 demo talked about constant tearing and a lot of aliasing...I guess we'll find out in about two weeks how the game really looks and runs on the consoles.

Again I'll iterate; No tearing on X360 or PS3. Sometimes footage may have come from PC's and/or Console running debug versions (which naturally run slower due to under-the-hood process we do to track things) or it could've been a capture problem. People who've played the latest version have commented on how well it has run.

hdn, still talking about graphics, could you say why 3D Vision won't be supported this time on PC? Isn't the game using the same engine and still running in DX9?

Tragic mentioned in the official forums that they're thinking about expanding the combat with future DLC, how so? Would the DLC introduce new mechanics or just exploring the existing ones with new weapons that would change a lot on how the game's played?

Well, just to be 100% transparent, we were really just going over some potential ideas while passing each other in the hall and I mentioned "You know what we could do? We could do an actual combat update alongside one of our DLC releases".

The idea being, if fans really like the combat foundation we provide, it could be a nice nod to them to provide even more tools to play with. This could be in the form of more 'just frame' cancels, our take on dodge-offset, tweaking some of the stuff we already have, or even adding a few new moves.

We are absolutely happy with the combat you will all be getting on release day, but as a long-time fighting game fan, I always love when new versions come out and I get to test and create all sorts of new combos. That was basically the thought.

Anyway, just a thought... nothing official. Definitely possible, though!

Before that, add coop support for Crucible. :)

So, basically if we have a good community for this game, talk about the combat a lot, make combo videos, cry for more and stuff like that we would be doing our part to make it a reality?

I'd really like to do that.

I love how right after the prowler dies, the champion tries to come in from behind and just gets handled. :D Good stuff!

That looks sick as hell!

Love all the purples and reds flashes effects.

Hey, here's a question if the devs hangin around here would care to answer. In DS1 there was a trophy you could miss, the one for hitting the helicopter out of the sky during the apocalypse. Sure, it was easy to do since it was within the first minutes of the game, you could just start a new file and have it done right away. But it still set a precedent for "trophies you maybe could miss," and they probably won't all be within the first minutes of the game.

So the question is: any of that in Darksiders 2? Do I need to read a trophy guide ahead of time if I want to get all of the trophies in one playthrough? Can I miss one, and have to get it in another playthrough?

Though really, perhaps the REAL question is this: as a guy getting the Wii U version, will any of this even matter? I'm not asking you to reveal if Nintendo has a global trophy/achievement system in place, but could you at least say if one way or another, be it via a global system or an in-game collection, the PS3/360 trophies/achievements will be present in the Wii U version? Don't need to know the specifics, just "they will be there somehow" or "nope."

Hdn/Tragic, please please please please consider supporting Oculus Rift VR glassess for Darksiders 1 and 2!!!

They offer incredible viewing angles and extremtly low latency motion tracking [that will not be importnat for DS2, but still]. John Carmack has made me a believer, this is a future of cheap and immersive VR.

If I'm not mistaken, the game has gotten two 9's, right? Don't really care that much since I'm so pumped for this.

This is one of the surprise hits of this gen for me. Loved the first one...so any idea what extra stuff we're going to get for having a save file from DS1?

You could watch a lets play on youtube :P

The story for this game takes place side by side with some events in part 1. It's basicly wtf was death doing while war was doing his thing. Of course playing the first one will give better insight on characters and such

I should be I think if I play the first one I'll just be bored with the game by the time I play 2, I haven't played a similar game since God of war 3. T WO WEEKS :( I wish I could control my hype, til right before the release of shit. I did the same with TDKR, I didn't care til like 2 weeks before it came out. I was sooo fucking excited that Saturday.

ok sad about the PC controller Hate in that link above.... PC gamers need to realize its just helps sells for PC, I'm more a PC gamer in the last 3 years then ever, I only play Reach on 360, but I don't like to use M/K only if I have too, I play D3 and the mouse isn't that bad. I just like buying the best version at launch if I can, PC with a controller. :D Really glad it has it. I wouldn't buy it otherwise.
