Xbox Live Fall 2012 Dashboard Public Beta - Signup Now

Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube all work better in Xbox IE than they do in the dedicated Xbox apps, primarily due to layout.

(opted into the Youtube html5 beta from my PC before trying it on the Xbox)

Lack of adblock is painful, especially on YouTube where on the main page more than 50% of the screen is taken up by an ad (which won't even load because of no Flash).

Adblock isn't necessary on non-flash devices really. Image ads aren't much of a bother, and it helps support content you like.

I need Xbox LIVE Gold to be able to use Internet Explorer... Really, Microsoft?

Bing search is a beast. I say Xbox, bing halo 4 videos and it searches the video store and YouTube. I call the YouTube video, and it takes me straight to it. The music and video apps load a lot more faster, and so does pretty much every thing else. I just don't like the rebranding of Zune.

Also, how can I pin a website to my pins?

Bookmarking a page in IE should make it show up under your pins.

I just came in to edit my post. It didn't do it at first but it shows up now. Thank you

And what ever happened to posting screen grabs to Facebook? Wasnt that suppose to be in like 2 years ago?

The Zune brand is dead.

I can't tell if the new dash is causing my to lose connection to game specific servers, or if things are just wonky tonight.

very nice little update, im sure most here will moan "moar ads!!!!" even tho there is only 1 actual ad on each tab, the rest of the tiles are showing xbox content, the new layout in the marketplace is so so so so much better, having all the tiles right there to click, find the new stuff, old stuff, whats coming soon, whats new in stores, and having it recommend you stuff which you might have not known existed based on what youve played, all very very good.

and IE 360, works beautifully, although still fairly pointless for the most part as with all console browsers

I wish the quick guide's game and achievement list images would be set to their proper sizes. If you go to your avatar/game info on the'social' tab, and then to your achievements you see their proper sizes and it looks so much cleaner. In the quick guide, they're rough looking images.

It's still annoying how they changed this for the NXE.

Some of the achievement artwork is really nice and you can only see it on the Xbox site or if it's one of the last 12 achievements you earned for that game. A real shame.

I seem to be in the minority here, but this dashboard made things way slower for me. Pushing my games, clicking on a game, and pressing play now takes wayy longer than it ever did.

They need more sorting options for pins. Having to slowly move them around is fairly tedious. An alphabetical option, type option, combination of both (i.e. common sorting options) would be nice.

Has anyone else got the update after signing up for it on the link a few pages back?

Yep. Got the link yesterday. Had it this morning AU time.

Facebook and Twitter are now fully treated like the red haired step child in this update.

Browser is actually good, but I doubt I'd use it.

Browsing is now nicer than before. Game searching is much more logical, and pinning is nice.

Been messing around with it, I like the look overall. I like to do media sharing between my 360 and PC everyday and I noticed navigating through folders is A LOT faster than before.

Quick question though, been trying to play Youtube videos through IE but I keep getting a message saying something like "Video is currently unavailable." Tried it on normal Youtube and html5. Is it because the video probably had an ad?

Yeah I believe that's the case. I got that message frequently on my MacBook Air until I finally gave in and installed Flash.

Though you could probably try switching the browser to mobile.

Beta not updating new Arcade or Games on Demand for me.

Seems to be an issue with sorting. By default it is sorted by 'User Rating' (even when checking the New Releases tile), so you have to change it to 'Release Date'. Hopefully they'll fix this; if not there isn't really a point to the New Releases tile.

2 other things.

I had to manually find Deadlight. It wasn't a "new release" arcade game.

Also, why can we now name our Xbox?

I was disappointed when I saw that earlier today... I guess it'll have to wait until [if] I get Halo 4 with Live.

The dashboard itself looks cleaner and smoother though, which is good.

I think the naming of Xbox has happened because of people who own multiple xboxes, easier to give specific names to consoles for WiFi/streaming I would imagine.

The Outlook.com beta looks quite nice all Metrofied on 360. A lot of the functionality is a bit hit and miss but for quick reading/sending emails things go quite smoothly. Really need a keyboard though as typing on the chatpad is quite gruesome. Still, I'm browsing and posting on GAF on the console and it works very well.

Looks like they've got rid of the Summer of Arcade advertisement on the frontpage of the new dashboard, so now I can't download the free Minecraft skins :/... Anyone know how to fix this?

For some reason linking to the forums doesn't work unless you are already logged in. Try logging into Xbox.com first then pasting the URL.

still not working for me.

can someone who can get in to the support forum tell me if there is a thread on the wireless Rock Band instruments not functioning with the beta?

please thanks.

It wont let me delete my gamertag on the new update? I need to redownload it so that i can reset some broken achievments from Pinball Arcade.

Really like the new dashboard, everything seems to flow together much better. Prior to updating, things took ages for me.

there was a post last night at 10PM central time by one of the guys on the xbox beta team that said:

Hello everyone! Sorry that your gaming has been affected by this issue. This is fixed in the next beta update your consoles will receive. Thanks for providing helpful information and continue to let us know about any other beta issues!

unfortunately he didn't answer the question in the post directly after his which was when this next beta update will actually come to our consoles. but at least ms has identified the problem and fixed it. we just might have to wait for the update. hopefully not too long though!
