The LEGO Thread

Is it just me, or do the Eurobricks Forums kinda suck? Half the time you cannot connect for one reason or another, and it just seems to be dead. At least it appears that way when threads in the top 5 of a section dont have posts for several days. Maybe it is the incredibly spread out nature of the boards, but it just feels dead.

I think it's the spread out nature. You've got 11 main boards, compared to our one topic. If they were all mashed together, I think the activity would dwarf our thread.

But the moderation over at Eurobricks - yeah - so strict that mods call you out for proper grammar and punctuation. 99% of GAF would have been banned over there. It's why I limit my participation on those forums.

I'm in the UK, I think that's the only place you can buy them? I'll try and see if I can knock her down since I'd be buying the whole box. Obviously shipping from the UK but they're light and if you don't care about them being in the packet then even smaller. I'll try and work out prices soon.

I' d be up for a set

I figured someone here could get a kick out of this. I dug out some old pictures of my Lego stuff. They are stamped June 1993 but with photographs you never know, I think many of them sat in a camera for months before I had them developed.

A random huge robot I built, mostly just to see how big it could get with my pieces. Not very complex.

I used to make game minifigs, by using painted labels. Since I only had the original colors, I was quite limited in how close I could get to the originals (barely any greens, for example).

Unfortunately very blurry, but this was my collection at its largest. I also used to build use multi-plate bases for them to live in, with Captain Falcon as the ruler (for some reason).

I don't remember them all, but here's what I think they were supposed to be:

Top: Ganon, Mother Brain
Row 1: ?, ?, Kuros (W&W), Vega, Captain Falcon, Rygar, Ken, Psylocke, some X-Man, Probotector?, ?
Row 2: Simon Belmont, Spider-Man, Gambit, Storm, Cody, Cable?, Princess Toadstool, Guile, Haggar, Radd Spencer, Jubilee
Row 3: Ryu, Honda, Toad, Guardian Legend girl, Pico (F-Zero), Batman, Samus, Link, Mega Man, Shadow Link, M.Bison
Row 4: Blaster Master, ?, Blanka, Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Captain N, Dr Stewart (F-Zero), Princess Lana, Solid Snake?, Cyclops, Balrog with wrong head?, Luigi
Row 5: obscured, obscured, Dhalsim, Rogue, Chun-Li, Hayabusa, Zangief, Jean Grey/Phoenix, Sagat, Magneto, Robo (Bonanza Bros)
Row 6: obscured, obscured (one of these would have been Mobo from BB), possibly another Belmont, ?, ?, Mario, another X-Man, blue Yoshi and red Yoshi

Eventually I tore down most of these and around 1996 or so when I started painting figures, I actually made more faithful versions of a few Mega Man figures, Link and more. I have no idea where these guys are now.

Picked up 9398 4x4 crawler and creator 7347 highway pickup from the Lego store in London (and a 3ds copy of Lego PotC for £4).

Really like the look of the cab in 7347, might mod it into a basic artic

I haven't got my Lego LoTR set yet but I found this on sale at Walmart and since i'm a big Transformers fan and wanted to get into brick building I thought why not. I've been reading these sets are really looked down upon by some lego fans and i'm sorry in advance but here are some pics of my Kreo Starscream set.

The little pilot guy is kind cool, the legs and arms are on ball joints so they have some extra movement compared to Lego minifigs. I was really surprised how nice the jet ended up looking and I left some stickers off because if I get a couple different sets on sale I might try to build something different, like say G1 Jetfire.

Nice pics man! Those sets are cool, they just seem to be super flimsy. But whatever it takes for you to join us is fine by me :)

Finally finished her. I think I can take a pretty good break from building now. (Yeah right!) Here's a little bonus time lapse video of the build. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Oh and as much as it pains me to do it, I'm going to sell this bad boy. So I'm putting it up for grabs here first. I've had a couple transactions in the buy/sell thread so it's all good.

My birthday is in a couple of weeks. You are perfectly welcome to just regift it to me. :)

Anyways, I just finished this lil guy tonight:

Fantastic video. Did you buy it recently? It got me thinking that if you bought something like the UCS SD or falcon used and opened, you could probably build it, enjoy for a while and resell it without losing much (if any) money. Big upfront investment but might be doable. Good luck with the sale

Awesome. Did you get any other MF sets?

The theme only just showed up on Australia's shop@home so other retailers here should be getting it shortly. Plan on getting the castle first and then maybe that set.

Love the Tumbler, Wetwired. What's the approximate piece count of the little guy?

EDIT: And I don't mean to undercut Wetwired here, but I was browsing some other Tumbler iterations on mocpages.com and came across a very awesome one with instructions by a user named Zeto Vince. May I post?

Hey I don't have a monopoly on Tumblers, my instructions are available for free anyway. I like the one you're talking about but you can't fit a minifig inside.

I think the piece count is about 300, can't remember off the top of my head.

The photo find in general is pretty awesome. But that robot takes the cake. Sweet!

Man, some of you had a lot of lego.

I really really want to buy 9398 but I'm just not sure I can justify spending £140. Decisions decisions.

It's not a mega technical build like the unimog, but my kids will enjoy the RC functions, the new servo motor will be great for building future RC car MOCs too.

I used a 10% voucher on mine, plus 5% earned in VIP points, so I can pretend it only cost me £120. I'll use the same dodgy economics to justify the crazy price on the haunted house by using my VIP points to make that £120 too.

you guys remember those ikea frame things I did for the collectible minifigures? I was thinking of doing another featuring the classic space minifigs, problem is there is only 5 (Red, Blue, Yellow, Black and White) and I need at least 10 to make a frame look decent (they look quite weird and sparse with 9 or less)

Any ideas of what else I can put in? I can either go more space minifigs and throw in an original space police, blacktron, m-tron and...something

or go in a complete different direction and feature an assortment of "classic" early 80s minifigs, city (police, fireman, nurse). I was going to suggest castle but the really early castle stuff is a bit samey and growing up in the early 80s myself I was more into space, and city police stuff.

Nice video, perfect music and well edited. I usually bore of time lapse construction videos but the constant camera angle changes and cuts to picking up pieces etc kept it interesting throughout

Thanks. I've watched some youtube videos and i'm really surprised there hasn't been more people being creative with these Kreo Transformers sets. I guess these are on clearance prices at Kmart and i'm going to go check. If they are i'm thinking of buying a bunch and maybe making a giant Fortress Maximus (screw Metroplex, he's small potatoes).

I'm still waiting on my Shelob Attacks set but I picked up Gandalf Arrives at Walmart. I was surprised at Walmart I had to double check the boxes because someone had cut out UPC symbols on some of the Lego sets boxes.

I bought it off a friend last month. He gave me a KILLER deal cuz he was moving and just wanted to get rid of it. It has everything but the box.

I have a hard time finding fun models at reasonable prices with good colors(like grey) and lots of slopes and shit..

all of the creator sets are in like basic red or yellow. completely useless colors.

Awesome video man. You did a great job with the editing and the music placement. Such a great model too!

Do an 80s themed "evolution of space" frame. All 5 original space figs (solid bodies, no visors), then 5 of the second wave ones (two tone bodies, blue visors). Then a row of the space police and Blacktron evolutions.

Finally got the Spider-Man set today. As far as playsets go, it's pretty solid, but more than anything I'm just glad to complete my collection of superhero minifigs. Aside from the Riddler (who I'm willing to skip), I've finally got them all.

Bring on the 2013 lineup.

Sounds like a plan. I think I may even buy the figures new off brick link. They're a bit expensive but compared to some mini figures released this year they're a pretty good deal.

1490 pieces; $99.99; October

Haven't posted in this thread for a while. Didn't even use my 10% off voucher this month because I'm just to resist spending money.

And now I see that my annual Christmas purchase is going to be extra expensive.

Got the three Star Wars mini-sets for series 2. Once again, great sets for $10. And I have a Lobot!

The Xwing build is a bit meh, but the Twin Pod and AT-ST are very creative builds.

Damn, Series 8 looks hot. The only figs I don't have interest in are the football player, cheerleader, and female skier. Everything else, I'd be more than happy to get.

They tied the Vampire Bat S8 minifig into the Monster Fighters theme:

“Vhat a lovely day!”

The clever and stealthy Vampire Bat may be his monster master’s chief hench-bat, but he isn’t entirely thrilled by wicked schemes to eclipse the sun and plunge the world into eternal darkness. After all, he might be one of the children of the night, but that doesn’t mean he wants to spend all his time there!

In fact, the Vampire Bat actually loves being out in the daylight. Sunny days at the beach are his idea of perfection (though he does get a lot of sand in his fur and it’s not easy to see through the glare when your eyes are so well-adapted to the dark). Now that there are a bunch of human monster-fighters trying to foil his master’s plans, he’s secretly rooting for them to win!

LOL. The power rankings on each figure. That is awesome. Like making a fighting team.

For now, I need to quickly disassemble the Republic Frigate and store the pieces. Mainly because I have nowhere to display it, but also because I dont need the wife knowing I spent that much on Lego while she was out of town. But the Quinjet will stay assembled. Too awesome, and I love swooshing it around the room every day before work.

Been building Emerald Night these past three nights, and I've finished the locomotive. The thing is incredible - truly one of those "nope, that can't be Lego" until you get really upclose, models.

Does anyone remember building this? There's two oddities that I don't understand. Very early in the build they show putting one 1x1 technic brick and one 1x round plate in between two wheel gears and over the drive wheels axle. This brick never gets attached to anything, and by the end of the build, when the instructions show the model flipped upside down, the picture doesn't show this brick anymore.

Second oddity is that 4x4 block that gets put near the end of the build, in the middle of the steam tank (the one that has two 1x4 green tiles on top). Anyone has an idea why is that block built the way it is? It has few technic pins and overall odd construction inside that serves no obvious purpose.

Yeah, the Emerald Night really is something special. I think it's helped to set the standard for the train models. As for your first oddity, it's been several years since I've built my model, but it sounds like a good old misprint. A few sets have had instructions just riddled with blunders (the Shrieking Shack's is pretty legendary). Some of them do seem to get corrected on reprints, but not always.

Here's a thread on Eurobricks that might have some further insight on your oddities and work arounds.

I figured out the 2nd oddity. Later on in the instructions, they show you how to motorize the train, and for that, the parts used in that 4x4 block get reused to affix the motor and receiver in place. Brilliant.

*edit* that thread is a good read :) I figured the 1x1 brick is probably there to keep the gear from falling off, nice to see it confirmed by Jamie himself :) Still odd that they didn't fix it, but I like the proposed half-bush solution.

That reminds me of my favorite part of many builds. As you are putting a bunch of random crap together, you keep thinking "What is this for? This makes no sense!" Only to have it all come together. Those are the most joyous parts. Many parts of second floor of Fire Brigade were like that, and lots of parts of the entire Death Star build. I think the one that most on here have experienced like that was with the (Se)X-Wing build. Those that have the set know what part of the build I am referring to.

Totally forgot about this. I have been on a Jackie Chan kick the last few days, and forgot about the fight scene at the end of New Police Story that takes place in a Lego store.
This is not the whole scene, but it is the best quality I could find.

Completely random, but hey. It never hurts to spread some Jackie Chan love.

LEGO posted picture of the series 8 mini figures on their site: http://minifigures.lego.com/en-us/Default.aspx

Edit: Sorry didn't realize the link to the video above was about series 8 as well.

Finally a proper Santa! No more pirate cap.

Evil robot is a bit disappointing, but it's nice for some to get that headpiece if they missed out on series 1.

Saw the August newsletter and the fact they are brining the mini hulk promotion back. Obviously not enough people took them up on the offer HA HA HA!
