My thoughts on the Thief class

Almost the same, except for me

The MegaMan comparison is pretty spot on too, because of the steal mechanic.

Man,you can steal some cool shit.
Steal shadowstep to a Necro, get the skull. Use it in the middle of his group and just watch them run.

My favorites are being able to steal whirling blades from a warrior, giving you a whirl finisher with decent damage potential, and stealing the tree of life thing from rangers, giving an AoE Healing Spring.

Shieeeeeeeeeeeeet 35 jumping puzzles as of the stress test:

Vizier's Tower
Behem Gauntlet
Branded Mine

One thing I never confirmed: With Steal, do you always get the same things from the professions? Necro gives you X only; Warrior gives you Y only; etc.

I'm trying to buy gw2 on gmg, however I'm wondering if it is the NA version or the EU Version. Any EU folks here, who have bought the game on gmg and can confirm?

Edit: Found a small note, saying EU Edition

Every profession can give you two different items.

Ok....this is something I didn't understand one bit when playing thief. Looking at the stolen skills.......uh....I'm impressed. Requires a whole new level of luck (on what is stolen) and knowing all of those abilities so you can react instantaneously in a fight.

I could see it taking awhile to learn but once someone has the system nailed down, Thieves could be one hell of a PITA.

Well, it's 16 skills in PvP.
Once you fight a class a few times, you kinda know what you get. It flows pretty organically.

Blocked at work, piss.

"Description: Website contains prohibited Virus/Malware content. "

Thief:
Blinding Tuft: It gives you 3s of stealth and blinds nearby foes. It's very good.
Drink: You take no direct damage for 3s after using this spell. It would be crazy if it did not have that long cast time Still very good!

Necromancer:
Skull Fear: A 3s AoE fear with a short cast time. Arguably the best item you can steal.
Throw Gunk: This item shines when you immobilize someone in the Gunk. If you manage to do it, it's one of the best items you can steal.

Warrior:
Shoot Rifle: This is an awesome steal if you are fighting a warrior 1v1 on a point and need to take him off the point to neutralize it. You just have to knockback him with the Rifle and to immobilize him outside with Devourer Venom.
Whirling Axe: It's the highest AoE damage item you can steal and it's easy to land. Very good!

Engineer:
Rusty Scrap Strike: 10s of Bleeding and Poison with 13s of Weakness (remember Lotus Poison) makes it a very good item. However it's a lot harder to land than some other, because it's a melee item.
Throw Gear: 2s stun 900 range This spell is a 2s stun with 900 range. Sounds crazy, right? Well, it has a long cast time and a long travel time, it's easy to dodge/interrupt. Not as sexy as it sounds, but still good. Try to use it as a follow-up to another stun or on an immobilized target.

Mesmer:
Consume Ectoplasm: Well, that one is easy. All the boons in the game for 10s on a 1s cast time. One of your best steals.
Torch Strike: 10s burn + damage Does decent damage and applies a 10s burn which makes it an extremely good damage steal if you run an hybrid build. Like all the melee stolen items, it's hard to land compared to the others.

Elementalist:
Ice Shard Stab: A melee range 10s Chill. Hard to land, but very strong.
Use Scepter: Time to wear a hat and unleash the Harry Potter that you've been trying to hide for all these years. Magical steal, which means random steal. You have a 50% chance to do a 2s melee range single target stun and 50% chance to do a 10s AoE burn around you. Both are extremely good if your build is hybrid.

Guardian:
Use Staff: Harry Potter is never over! 50% chance to apply a ranged 1s stun that bounces between 3 targets. 50% chance to throw a fireball that will deal a good amount of damage and inflict a 5s burn to a single target. One of your best steals in a team fight, if you are lucky that is.
Mace Head Crack: Back to the melee stuff. This one is a melee range 4s daze. It's one of your best steals if you manage to land it.

Ranger:
Healing Seed: Time to unleash the... GARDENER in you! Always dreamed to plant a tree? Guild Wars 2 will allow you to do it! The Tree is a Combo Field: Water, pulses 5 times, gives Regeneration and removes 2 conditions with every pulse. Oh did I tell you that it worked for all your nearby allies? It has a cast time that roots you while using it, but it's still one of the very best items you can get.
Throw Vine: Makes you throw a vine (for real!!) that immobilizes your target for 5s. It is easy to dodge if you throw it from far away, so try to throw it to a target that is close to you. A 5s immobilize is insanely good to take down the target your team is focusing during a team fight.

"Poor Mesmer. None of the Mesmer's abilities are as good as the skill the Thief takes from the Mesmer."

Not true. Blurred Frenzy and Magic Bullet are both really, really good. Definitely better than the steal skills.

Alright, I will admit that Magic Bullet is rather amazing in a WvWvW situation. But ALL THE BOONS is still a bit better than that when coupled with the right weapon(s) and skills.

You don't steal Chaos Storm, so the Mesmer still beats you.

From what I can tell, GMG auto-detects your region and gives you a code for that region. Checking myself, the site said it would be giving me the NA version.

It also depends if it really is 10s for all boons. 10s of Quickness would make it one of the best buttons in the game.

I wonder if Ebonhawke is an open world city? Not zoned? It would be a lot more interesting if its subject to DEs. Like a bigger Beetletun.

As for my main, it's either Engineer or Mesmer. I'm waiting to hear about some Mes improvements. I got my Engineer to 20 during the stress test and picked up Elixir Gun. For wall sieges, I was running grenades, elixir gun and flamethrower with a med kit. Gave me damage, crowd control and the ability to heal others around me. People tend to ignore medkit drops though. It's also pretty easy to remove conditions by dropping the Elixir Gun 5th skill and then using the dart shot within the combo field. Very versatile combo of skills.

Also, nobod gives enough love to the shield 5th skill. It's initially a shield stance that stuns people that hit you, but then you can hit it again to throw the shield Captain America style. It does damage on its way out and on its return trip. In addition to that, it dazes on hit and is a projectile combo finisher. Setting down a combo field and then throwing your shield into a crowd, and then strafing on its return trip can do a lot of damage and daze multiple people.

Pre-ordered from GMG. That's a perfect price point for those that have been on the fence about picking this up. Now I need to choose what class I want to be and what race is the most adorable.
