Maybe not enslavement. But the western world definitely views it as a way to repress women, and a way for men to treat them in a more possessive manner.

And the Middle East would view women wearing e.g. mini skirts as immoral. Two opposite cultures will naturally have opposing perspectives on matters like this. But to declare a Muslim woman oppressed* without knowing anything about her life is no different than declaring a western woman immoral without knowing anything about her character.

*I'm assuming when people talk about oppression they are talking about something more poignant than the lack of freedoms that generally comes with religious adherence.

But we know women are oppressed in islamic countires. There's reasons for that. Just because the woman may be OK with her opression, doesn't mean she isn't being oppressed. How would she even know any better?

And it's not like people in the states don't look at that girl in the short skirt and make their own assumptions about her. Wrongly or not. But at least she has the social and personal freedoms to make that choice.

Even if Islam does't force women into wearing Hijbas, there's enough social pressure for them to do so.

Like I said ... just because they're codiditioned to not care, doesn't make it right.

Heres the problem with even the swimmer cap she wore. that thing realistically will still fall off during matches, womans judo tend to be alot longer with posturing on the ground. some of these matches i've seen judoka with their hair completely disheveled.

I think her opponent took pity on her.

ya definitely she held back for the first minute.

It's not worth even acknowledging comments like that, its a waste of time. Suffice to say my Ignore List has grown substantially in the last 48 hours.

Nice, I like being on Jason Raise's ignore list. It shows people's true character: They know their argument is flawed, so they just plug their ears to anyone who disagrees with them.

This is a pretty good stance. A lot of people make fallacious equivalences about "choice" but the US has such a ridiculously diverse clothing culture it's completely and totally wrong to compare anything women wear here to there.
